No, my characters would all be the same that way. I like taking a single bit of ideas I have and then apply it as a character to the world, with said singular idea developing complementary ideas and a unique personality.
For example, I'm curious about the dark arts of magic when it comes to the Elder Scrolls, but if I literally lived there, I'd just educate myself on it and not be superstitious when discussing the mentality of necromancers and the Daedra. If I take out my curiosity and let it become its own personality, I'd have a character who develops an obsession with Daedric beings, discovered a natural skill for necromancy when all they've been practicing was destruction and alteration, and a lust for power through supernatural means, like vampirism.
That said, if I don't know what to do, I'll be neutral, be reserved, and observe the world before making a decision. I guess I'll play as a Redguard sellsword in TES VI Hammerfell.

Only if it's really really easy to see myself as the character. So oftentimes in rpgs and stuff, especially when i create/get to name a character. DQ is really good at doing it too.
