Pretty good.
One of the GOATS, all the "rogue-lite" genre kickstarted by it still haven't got it right.
more like spelucky
more like speRNG bullshit
someone post the webm of a player instantly dying upon entering a level because a croc man was standing right next to a spike trap
It is great. I like it slightly less than Isaac and Slay the Spire. Any other rogue-likes I should check out?
None of those are roguelikes.
The peak of rouge likes
Fight me
You know what I am talking about autist.
There needs to be an original OST mod
Gungeon
Check out Unexplored and get some taste, Isaac's "rogue" part is an excuse to shuffle some mediocre arcade rooms, there is nothing "roguelike" in isaac.
no other genre has this many rules related to it
stuff like the graphic style shouldn't even be a factor
basically, if the game isn't a literal clone of rogue, it's not roguelike according to autists
Boy I sure do love getting a shotgun/jetpack in the shop only to have a dart trap trigger the shopkeeper and he kills me instantly
Fight with me, my man.
That is true, tho, HD's music is pretty weak.
>if it's not like Rogue it's not a roguelike
>waaaaah so many rules fucking autists
It's important to make the distinction because most roguelikes are pretty decent games while these roguelites or whatever the fuck you want to call it are 99% indie pixel dogshit games barely playable with the occasional gems like Spelunky.
That's why it's annoying when you confuse the two just because it has permadeath and random levels.
In my book, the only requirements for a roguelike is that is generally plays like Rogue.
Turn based RPG on a tile based level where every action you take has a time cost.
If it's a platformer, twin stick shooter or a real time action RPG it's not a fucking roguelike.
>has shotgun
>has jetpack
>can't kill shopkeeper
Wow
One of my favorite games that I replay every so often
It's literally impossible to get the no gold picked up achievement
the genre is coined now, deal with it.
One of the easiest
Why does he have huge red nose? Is he a clown or an alcoholic? Looks retarded as fuck.
:)
It's a mess of a genre, when you read "roguelite" it could mean either 'actual dungeon delving with interconnected systems' or 'mere arcade game with reshuffled levels'.
i coined ur mom last night fgt
For the longest time you could go onto the internet and look for roguelikes to play and you'd know exactly what you'll get.
After games like Binding of Isaac and Rogue Legacy came and fucked it up everything is now a roguelike.
Can we just have a new name for either of those genres?
>Links to 22 min long video
Ok
Here, 0 gold.
Yeah but its cool because it doesn't bother the majority of us the way it bothers you. Nobody really cares about your gripes, no matter how much you argue about semantics in every single fucking thread. This is a spelunky thread, why did you come here to whine and complain?
Both of these games call themselves rogue-likes.
The thing is, it should fucking bother you newfag. This website wasn't made for casual braindead normalfags that can't even tell a fucking genre from another.
You confusing me with somebody else, Spelunky is a good example of roguelite (roguelike-like possibilities and systems, BUT as a platformer). BOI, on the other hand, is just a twin-stick shooter with reshuffled rooms, and a downright crappy one at that.
Where the fuck is 2 at?
What a fucking retard.
So the thing is the vast majority of us see why these games are referred to the way they are even if they are a far cry from the original rouge games. It is like games being called metroidvanias, its a messy term, but most people with 2 or more brain cells understand why they are referred to that way. You are literally pic related. And guess what, nobody gives a shit about your technicalities. Spelunky is a great game. Its a great atformer, a great exploration game, and a great game with randomised layout systems that affect one another and consistent rules, a great fucking rougelike
Next year.
Wrong pic related
First reply in this thread was mine. It is indeed a good game but it's not a roguelike.
>technicalities
It plays absolutely fucking nothing like Rogue so how could you call it a rogueLIKE? Is it brain problems?
let me guess, you also bitch that the dragons in skyrim aren't REAL dragons
Fucking retarded.
Rouges some defining feature is that each "run" is randomly generated and you are only allowed one chance at beating a given "generation".
Thus, Rouglikes are defined by the fact that each run is randomly generated by primarily it's map, in addition to items and collectibles. And that you can only "game over" on a given generation once. But typically have overarching goals and items that can permanently affect future runs. This still allowing progression.
Anything beyond that can be called a rougelite. Minecraft for example can be called a rouglite, if only just barely.
Love it. One of my favourite indie games and still play it every now and then.
No, Daggerfall is the only good TES game. I couldn't give a shit about that wywern faggotry.
Derek Yu never called Spelunky a roguelike.
It's a platformer inspired by La-Mulana and Nethack.
Already spent hours and hours on streets of rogue. Would recommend it
Yeah i've actally read his book, its a very good read. But the makers of SoTN never said "we're making a metroid like" and yet the term metroidvania remains.
So why isn't Binding of Isaac called a SmashTVlike instead?
The combination of game two titles to create a genre descriptor works because it's used to describe the progression mechanics that virtually all metroidvanias these days follow perfectly.
Roguelike implies that the game is "like Rogue" which goes straight out the window when most roguelikes are in fact, nothing like Rogue at all.
Just call them roguelites if you have to or invent a new name like randomdeath or something.
yeah they are you start over when you die dumb nigger
>every oldschool game is a roguelike
I wish the absolute braindead would just stay on facebook.
