Why do stevefags constantly push this narrative that Banjo was hated by Sakurai. When he was going to be added to Melee way back when. He brought him back knowing how many people wanted him in. Nintendo was surprised by how many people wanted him in. Microsoft and Rare were ecstatic to work along with. He literally called Grant Kirkhope the original composer to work on remixes for ultimate. Honestly looking at a good amount of guests in smash (minus snake cloud and joker) all have a large history with Nintendo with there inclusions being met with positivity by pretty much everyone, why did banjo of all characters get targeted by a group? I know this is bait, but a couple points for thought. Sakurai was always a fan of Donkey Kong 64. he made the decision to put 2 new Donkey Kong Stages in Melee, both from 64, and included a DK Rap Remix like a total fanboy. K Rool has a DK64 final Smash, he used Krystal's Adventure's design as another Rare reference, Melee also references Goldeneye and Perfect Dark through items. Being a fan of DK64 practically guarantees he is also a fan of Banjo and Rare as a whole from his past references.
Besides motherfucker played Persona 1 at launch. Sakurai was an N64 developer and lived through Banjo's launch. He should understand Banjo more than most people. Every N64 developer looked up to Banjo-Kazooie for its technical achievements and how much impact it had in those 2-3 years where it was a big Nintendo franchise. I don't think Sakurai loves Banjo like he jacks off to him every night and praises him as God like the Japs do for Dragon Quest, but Sakurai is also a mature adult man. I doubt he feels "hate" for fans wanting a character, or resents fans for not wanting another charcater like Steve, he has respect for both series.
Obscure references like Banjo's nose jiggle physics, the Freezeezy Peak screenshot, the fucking dragonfly from the opening cinematic of the first game being in the Spiral Mountain stage, the Rare Pin under the backpack flap, the extra life above Banjo's house, idle animation from Nuts and Bolts. He got Grant Kirkhope to do a song because he's that much of a fanboy he knew everyone else would be giddy. We only saw half the moveset and already it feels like he's a fan going wild with references because it makes him giddy. Jinjonator final smash means he beat the entire first game, probably in 1 night taking notes. He played Sonic 06 before including Sonic, probably has played Nuts and Bolts as well or at least watched through it. He wouldn't work so hard with the source material if he didn't enjoy it to some level
