How is it not true? Smash fans LITERALLY only care about Metroid because they can jerk off to it. Not a soul has ever touched the series, and I can prove it. Look into any smash/metroid thread and you'll find no gameplay discussion whatsoever. People will just be spamming porn until the thread 404's.

And how am I supposed to do that for a multiplayer-centric game? Especially when I get shat on daily in smash bros threads for saying that I prefer playing as Power Suit Samus? Heaven forbid I play a video game for five seconds without thinking with my dick, but apparently this is an unforgivable sin.

Stop going into image dump threads expecting discussion. Metroid discussion threads are extremely common and easy to make, the franchise is quite popular here. Just make a fucking thread with a Metroid pic and your subject of choice and you’ll have zero issues. In the past week alone I’ve had two separate multi hour long discussions about Fusion and the Prime games here.

I've been in those threads. Every one of them became a smash circlejerk or a porn circlejerk. Nobody here actually likes Metroid. I'm literally the only genuine fan left. And I'm sorry I have to say that, but I'm the only one who thinks Metroid can be a good series without disgusting sex fanservice being shoved in every 5 seconds.

And honestly, this was my one wish for Smash Bros Ultimate. I wanted them to completely remove Zero suit and retcon it from the series forever. They already violently murdered Metroid with Other M, they can't at least try and fix their mistakes?

Fucking same. Smash Ultimate killed the series for me. It made me realize that I've never liked Smash in execution, only in concept, because they ALWAYS manage to fuck something up and make the next game slightly more unplayable than the last.
I'm willing to bet the next Smash finally fixes all the online and input buffer issues and actually adds characters worth a damn as well as an interesting and unique story mode, but the only controller that works with it is made out of barbed wire and used tampons. It's so infuriating to want to like a game that constantly fights back your ability to enjoy it. Fuck Smash.

Also this game gave me my absolute most requested characters in Banjo, K Rool, and Ridley so they could make the last DLCs two separate Fortnite reps and I’d be satisfied.

This statement goes deeper than you think. I love the concept of Smash, outright adore it but somehow the games can't keep my pull with every installment. Tripping made me drop Brawl, I literally didn't even play Smash Four beyond the surface and while I've played Ultimate more, I still have nitpicks that build up making them a problem enough to annoy me.

I've played like this with Young Link and enjoyed it, but I think that's just because he's more combo-oriented so it doesn't feel like I'm running away. When it comes down to it, I like playing a character who can just ftilt you at 90 for the kill.

Play BOTW Link. You set traps and he has big boy hits. You have to work for it by making your opponent do what they should know is stupid but I can definitely say Link is one of the most fun characters in the game in my opinion

Easily. The only thing it lacks compared to Melee is ground to air momentum, which I could never make much use of anyhow, and it's pretty fucking fast anyway. The new characters are some of the most satisfying we've ever had and the mechanical changes from 4 have all been for the better. Also my all-time dream pick got in, pic related.

G&W got kinda fucked. The bomb is neat but unwieldy, and I hate that they took away his fun windboxes. Reflector bucket is nice though and I still enjoy playing him.
Pikachu is a fucking menace now and I love it. Tried switching to Pichu but I'm too reckless to live long enough as him, otherwise I'd consider Pichu a direct upgrade in fun.
Kirby feels great. I dunno why people call him bad, his attacks come out stupid fast and have a good bit of power, plus his combo game is great. He's too slow to mess with some characters, but I believe he's great in doubles for his sheer precision in the air.
And Dedede is the best he's ever been. Absolutely love him, I almost never feel I'm at a disadvantage against other characters.

That being said I manage to work around the combo's by being a persistent little shit so I'll make do.

It took me some getting used to but I definitely prefer his Ult design now. Arts are just a lot more situational, but switching them on the fly is so satisfying.

The bomb gives you some teeth shattering ledge trapping and edge guarding. The boomerang is more fun for me though personally.

To answer two at once here, 4 is my favorite because I main duck hunt. They fucked my character over so hard in ultimate just because he was obnoxious in 4 player item modes.

Unlocking characters is fun. They should have made most of the stages unlockable too.

I've said this before, it's because Kirby is probably the most popular casual pick. He's easy to use, pretty fun, has a forgiving recovery, and inhale powers give him a lot of variety. The problem is that, because of all this, there's a conception among casual players that he's somehow really really good. Seriously, talk to anybody who just plays Smash at parties and they're probably tell you how busted Kirby is. If Nintendo were to buff him significantly I feel like it would piss casuals off because they'd see it as unfair, and the casual audience for Smash is HUGE.

OG characters would need a complete overhaul to be good if they aren't already. Keep playing him though man, tiers are for queers and any character can be good if you know what you're doing

As kids with melee my brother always won with Kirby, I was convinced he was the best until 4 came out and I took thengame seriously

No. It's the game I've dropped the fastest after playing. I spent tons of time even on brawl, which was a sort of disapppointing but extremely fun game. This game is severely lacking in depth, content, and thought. Melee is my favorite followed by 64 then Brawl. 4 and ultimate aren't even good games to me.

This isn't completely true, there are some characters that definitely struggle a lot at high level. The thing is, Ultimate is balanced enough that tiers don't really come into play unless you're a top 50, maybe top 100 player. Any character in the game can clean house at locals or online. So yeah follow your dreams, if you still have fun with Kirby then don't stop playing him.

It seriously takes less than 5 hours to get all the characters but I agree in principle that unlocking shit is for RPGs

yeah R.O.B is the best he's ever been. Gyro is fun and versatile, the SPEEN is stupidly good, Laser is great for sniping, up-b is great, dtilt and nair are disgustingly good, and the rest of his moveset is great too.

My Ultimate main has gotten no real changes since day 1 thankfully. My Smash 4 main, Villager, was pushed out of the meta by DLC, he didn't really get the buffs he needed to compensate in Ultimate, he also lost to swords and Ultimate meta is 1/3rd swordies so he's nearly unplayable. He's fine for what he is but I'm not interested in using him anymore.

Been trying to learn Pac-Man. He's super fun but also really complex. He has alot of cool setups as seen by the millions of compilations, but actually trying to learn to get those openings is tough.

I like how my mains have been treated. Incineroar got buffed since release although k Rool got undeserved nerfs I hardly ever play him anymore.

Ridely is like a high mid tier, he's perfectly usable since he has good MUs against a lot of characters that aren't like, Palu or Snake. Lord knows if he were actually high/top tier you fucks would be begging for him to be nerfed so you could keep pretending you're a cool low tier main.

I mean, they technically do. angled up-b goes super high (basically 2 jumps), they can act out of side-b, and down-b boosts them up a bit. and you can't punish that up-b at all if they go low (meanwhile Kirby is Free Dunk Estate during those 5 jumps)
Plus Meta Knight has decent airspeed and the same amount of jumps.

Not enough to count as an extra jump, plus the real benefit of having more than one midair jump extends to things like having better landings, being able to chase people in the air higher and for longer, and extended air combos, Pikachu can't do any of this since he only has one air jump.

MK's moves have literally 1 active frame and very specific areas of effect while Kirby has long lasting moves like dair and fair and big aerials like uair and bair.

No but I like it much much better than Brawl and Sm4sh to the point where I'll actually choose to play it because it's generally enjoyable and not just because it's the most convenient online Smash experience (which it isn't anymore since netplay is better than Ult online). I rate it just under 64 for my enjoyability because while I can play all 12 characters in 64 ad infinitum enjoyably, I can at least find 10 characters in Ult out of its 80 character roster that I enjoy playing for hours too. The mechanics are generally good and reward downloading your opponent since their options are limited to easily covered or reacted to scenarios, so it feels sort of more like a relaxing mental game setting like Street Fighter.

The characters I tend to play are: Simon, K Rool, DK, Ryu, Fox, G&W, and Ike and Mac.
Simon and K Rool are obviously new.
Fox feels like he has a solid toolset but isn't as fun as in 64.
DK I think is the most enjoyable in the series aside from PM.
Ryu is great but the aurtoface mechanic combined with the buffer is such cancer that it feels more like I'm in an argument with my own character to do what he's told than fighting my opponent sometimes, especially online.
G&W is great for dthrow Judge.
Ike is more fun in PM but f-air is a great edgeguard and he still fights for his friends.

I don't understand the off stage argument when you have a instant frame whip to get back to the stage. Simon/Belmont needed a heart system that would replenish after 10 seconds or so when depleted. They can spam too much and their items destroy every other persons items on impact. His whip length is absolutely ridiculous and holy bottle is annoying when he can set it on the side of the stage every second.

Extremely based as a Ridley main i know he still kicks ass and no one knows the matchup so you are garunteed a free kill

I use Simon Belmont and that thing seldom sets fire like it’s supposed to in the heat of battle. I don’t see how you struggle with him, he’s slow, and his up b is shot. That whip isn’t enough to consistently save him if you’re good. Then again I use Link so Idgaf about his projectiles. Im okay with Simon so I understand how he plays though

This, I fought a good Richter recently and as soon as I hit him offstage he would just fair to get back, and fair's tether range is much further than the attack range and has a huge variety of angles making it so that I just had to guess where he would be.
In the shitton of rounds we played I was only able to hit him out of his fair recovery once, I don't understand why it's so hard to stop.

He's just a good match up against duck hunt. Probably the only issue really.

These characters are pains online. Haven't had much experience outside of it, but I know that they're pains in Online.

The buffer systems ruins it for me. Haven't played it since Piranha Plant, will go back when Banjo releases, play him online for a couple of minute before realizing how awful the netcode and overall experience is and then put it away until the next character comes if I care about them.

Mario isn't quite as fearsome as his 4 incarnation but he still feels great to use against pretty much anybody.
But then again, everybody in Ultimate feels good. It's definitely my favorite Smash game.

Smash Ultimate ain't really my favorite Smash game, but I'll play it over most Smash titles. Favorite Smash game has to go to Super Smash Flash 2.
I've been a Jigglypuff main since 64, so it's been a rollercoaster and half when it comes to the balances changes when she transitions to the game. I really do wish her specials would be tweaked (like being able to jump while using Rollout or Sing not lasting so long)
I'm mostly apathetic to the tier placements of characters since I don't attend tourneys, but it's a great indicator of who I'm gonna see online a lot.

Definitely not my favorite smash game. Since melee the game has had a bullshit skill ceiling that basically anyone can reach within a few days. There are mechanics built into the game that favor poor players. Because the game disproportionately rewards defense, If you play too fast you will be punished. If you take any action first you will be punished. If you try to take control of the game in any way you will be punished. If you try to combo too hard you will be punished. If you ledge hog you will be punished. Rage is bullshit and rewards players for sucking. Also many characters have a rage mechanic built right in to their kit (Cloud, Joker, etc.). Hit stun is too low to follow up with most combos.

The game is clearly designed so that the player trying to take any action is at a disadvantage, and the result is a shitty campy game. Players just camp and poke hit for hit. Every time you make contact with a move you need to stop, back off, and reassess the situation. It doesn't open up any combo opportunities aside from MAYBE one extra hit. It's actually more likely that you've exposed yourself to a retaliation. The best players don't depend on their skill to win, they have memorized every characters options like an M2K robot. No players have any style. There is always a right and wrong thing to do, no in between. No room to get creative. The match-ups dictate everything.

Ultimate commentators have gotten so cringey. Instead of celebrating epic comboes they literally praise camping and running away.

Yeah, that's pretty much ultimate. It's accessible, so it's popular, but as a competitive game it's lame. It's literally designed not to be too competitive, and it shows. As long as you have a campy mindset and choose the right character you can do well in a tournament with hardly any experience, because they players that are actually trying to do things are the ones who lose.

Nope I was pretty disappointed in the speed and physics. Melee's still infinitely more rewarding. I tried to get into Ult but it's just not fun with the whole rolling around, instant recoveries, no combos, etc.

Doesn't really matter to me. I quickly found out that I actually had no idea how to play my main and I don't use her nearly as much anymore. Inkling appealed to me much more with both kit and design and it feels like I've got a real main for the first time. Now I actually put time into practicing and I've improved drastically which has been a lot more fun. My top four mains now are all either newcomers or characters I've never seriously played before.

Really depends. I don't mind if he plays solid without much gimmick. And even then I think it's always good to have more top tier characters, as long as they're not so overwhelmingly dominant that they are without a doubt the best in the game.

Haven't played Smash since Brawl, which I hated beyond belief when I played it as a kid. Smash 4 had Wario, but he was weird, and he's amazing in this game.

Other mains I can't say, cause I mained Fox and Links in melee, and they're by far the corniest types of players imho. Regardless, balance is pretty good save for Hero, who's legit DUMB with the RNG.
