What went wrong?

Sony being cunts and deciding that a handheld that can handle games like MGS3 is a bad idea and should focus all money on tranny development.

Does it run all the PSVita games?

Or is there games that don't run on it?

>"That'll be 30 dollars, please"

>Playstation
>TV
That's kinda redundant

>tfw got one brand new from a store for 25 shekels on clearance right before they disappeared and skyrocketed online
Good fucking feel

Only ones you can't really play are the ones that require back touchscreen like gravity rush or tearaway, also supports the whole PSP and PSX library

There's some that won't run unless you hack it. The MGS games come to mind.

Any game that heavily uses the gyro and/or the touchscreens is a big no no.
You can hack it and whitelist all games but don't expect stuff like Gravity Rush or Tearaway to be playable at all

Is there homebrew that lets you use a VITA as a controller to play those games?

I thought it was like 100 lol?

spbp

>also supports the whole PSP and PSX library*
*Provided you are downloading from a region that didn't have downloading crippled and/or installed CFW on it

Why in the fuck would you not use CFW though?

lel came here to post this

Doesn't it work with the PS4 controller for gyro/touch support?

Funny, because the system itself runs the game. What's wrong with the Sony support?

Why Sony is holding up the support?

Don't these games work with the PS4 touch? I was under this impression.

I don't want to hack though.

There's a PSP version with TV out, but is there a Vita with TV out?

While that is obvious, and should be kept in mind, it is worth mentioning that official support is fucking abysmal, and the PSTV somehow got it worse from sony with blacklisting titles.

same thing as the vita- lack of popular interest
i have one for the sole purpose of playing p4g

>I don't want to hack though.
Don't buy a pstv or vita then

Here's what I think they should've done. They should've allowed the actual Vita to be used as a controller.

I know it sounds counterintuitive but think about it for a second. If you have the Vita for a controller that means that EVERY game could've been played on the system. You could use the back touch pad, the touch screen and all other features that kept all the games that weren't playable from being playable on it.

lol exactly

>No marketing
>Base model didn't come with a controller or any games
>Packaging wasn't very clear as to what games worked and what didn't
>Despite having TV in its name the only streaming service that worked on it was Crunchyroll

they have no one but themselves to blame
>no price cut even after the 3DS price cut
>never reduced the price of cards
>announced that no more first party games were in development

>Grabbing one during the original Amazon Lightning Deal, when Yea Forums and media outlets were going batshit over missing out
Felt REAL good.

>Buying an actual VITA during a past Prime Day. With screen protector and carrying case, it came out to the default price
Felt terrible!

No good games

>32GB $120

If the Micro SD card adapter came out earlier Sony would still be making first party Vita games

To put things into perspective, Sony stopped making Vita games in 2014 (their final game for the system, the JRPG Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, released in Japan in 2014 but didn't reach the US until 8 months later) which was only TWO YEARS after it launched which is absolutely pathetic

It's a shame, the vita had some nice potential.

The lawsuits were already in the works at that point.

The WiFi did not communicate with PS4, only the nearest modem, leading to insane lag.

Pause and play was a myth.

The battery had ridiculously short life and continued to get worse over time.

The damn thing asks for system upgrades despite having the latest version installed.

Why would you need that when PS4 exists?
It already functions as a TV and movie player

Fuck you, this is my biggest vidya regret. Now they're fucking insanely priced, going up more every year

Nice, I got one around the same time, but it was $35. I've only rarely used it though.

They were only made to repurpose some parts after the OLED model flopped worldwide.
In the west nowhere on or even in the packaging in either the standalone nor the bundle said a single word about it being able to play digital PSP and PS1 games on the PS store and they didn't even mention that it could play Vita games natively both physical and digital. They didn't even produce much of them and they sold so bad it took years of firesales at $20 for the thing or $40 or $50 for the bundle with a memory card and brand new PS3 controller to get rid of the meager stock made.
Keep in mind that it was literally cheaper to buy a Vita TV bundle with a PS3 controller than it was to buy a new PS3 controller for years and they still couldn't sell the things.

Did they just release it without a actually giving a shit about it because of the 3DS or something? Because holy fucking shit, literally everything they did for it was a fuck up

What the fuck why? I managed to get one years ago just for the free controller

Did they really think it would fly with those prices?

Because they can be hacked really easily now, with the added bonus of being able to use it with a TV/monitor as well as USB storage

I really doubt that because nobody would be buying the games. Those adapters require a hacked console to work and if you're hacking your console for a memory card why would you pay for games when your gameslot is now permanently occupied by the memory card adapter?

the vita was such an insane fuck up on almost all fronts

Would have helped to call it the Vita TV on the package.

Look up some of the Vita software sales leaks that happened last year. They jumped ship super quick because nothing was selling be it first or third party. The only reason it took 2 years for first party support to stop and not sooner was sunk costs in projects already in development were okayed to finish. In the case of Freedom Wars they shoved it out the door unfinished.

>In the west nowhere on or even in the packaging in either the standalone nor the bundle said a single word about it being able to play digital PSP and PS1 games on the PS store and they didn't even mention that it could play Vita games natively both physical and digital.
Retard here, I owned a PSTV for a month before I realized it had a cartridge slot. I had just been USB loading everything and noticed it by chance, but I wonder if anyone else was under the impression it was a digital-only machine like I was.

>No gta
>No gow
>No MH
>No iconic indies like katamari, loco roco and patapon
>No MGS
>No FF
>(((Memcard prices)))
>249 for a handheld
I swore that I would never buy a sony console ever again. And it has worked out well.

Pretty much this, got a bundle with a ps3 controller and the lego movie game for like 40 bucks.

Oh i'm well aware. I poked around after wondering how bad sales must have been for almost every western third party to pull the plug after the first year.

The absurd lack of iconic franchises that moved PSP units like Monster Hunter, GTA, or Gran Turismo was nuts. Some of their original games like Gravity Rush or Freedom Wars were cool, but the system was doomed from day 1

Memory card prices.
USB cant be used for games.
It exists because features were removed from PSVita to create it.

Everything about it.

They should have just sold a HDMI dock for the vita. The pin out on the ports suggest it was possible / planned, hell the PSP could do video out.

Nice

Serious answer?
Nobody knew what it was or what it did. I play videogames and browse Yea Forums often enough, and before the thing was discontinued I assumed it was basically a Chomecast, Steam Link, or Apple TV like device (additionally I think those devices are/were given away for nigh free, they are, right?). I'm not sure the thing had any advertising at all. I wasn't sure why anybody would pay ANY money for one, I assumed the best reason somebody would buy one was to obtain a free PS3 controller.

The PS Store on the Vita is such shit.

Not including it in Vita by giving you an HDMI port on it
