Campaign can be very long and repetitive. Most of the standard battles are okay, either capturing points or destroying vessels, with an occasional special condition, but you'll get bored of facing down fleets of spammed escorts that suicide against your heavy cruisers en masse. That doesnt mean the battles cant be engaging, though, as I've had plenty fun fighting the variety of enemies and adapting to rhe compositions of enemy fleets. Story missions are pretty great, with a variety of options that'll test your abilities as you can kill some lore characters like Abbadon and Guilliman.
While you can eliminate all of the enemies in your sector, you'll still get random invasions from outside that take several turns to arrive--ie, you'll have to bus around 2-3 fleets to stop random 1200 str enemy fleets from forming a breach in your firmly controlled sectors. This just slows down progress, as you dont want to let some dudes take your planets, but you gotta sit around for 3 turns until they arrive, so, in the meanwhile, there's a time limit that increases enemy aggression. And then, once you finally stop that invasion fleet, one pops up on the complete opposite side of the galaxy.
It was free this last weekend, so you should've given it a try
