How far along is it now?

its pretty damn accurate although the original doom style HUD is still being implemented
mechanically its the same except they fixed bugs like dodging skill decreasing your chance to hit

its perfectly playable in its current state, moreso than openMW

also the new additions can be toggled like the new font or one click combat

doesnt run at 10 fps with fog 10 ft in front of your character and a crash every 20 minutes with constant corrupted save data so no, not really like vanilla

I still love how Daggerfall straight up discouraged you from doing the main quest. It feels like a recurring theme in the ES series for side quests to take priority over the main quest

The spell system in Daggerfall is unironically way more enjoyable to use than Morrowind's. Combat feels better too.

The devs consider it a remake, rather than a port. Generally the look and feel are about the same, but under the hood it has slightly different mechanics and calculations. There's also still things missing from it and it is pretty buggy so make sure to save a lot.

This is really annoying. In the original game you could rest with enemies in the next room, but here you need to be so far apart.

I decided to make my first character a sneaky thief and I'm greatly regretting it. I'm going to take a bit of a break and then roll a new character so I don't get burnt out. I haven't completely decided what kind of character my 2nd will be though. Any suggestions?

sneaky thief makes no sense in daggerfall. you could loot a home with nobody in it and the guards will be called from every corner of the town to murder you.

Yes, it's pretty cool with mods. Been playing original Daggerfall quite a lot back in the days so doing it again with multiple mods and enhanced graphics is pretty amazing, like discovering it all again.

sadly you can't kill jester or most npcs in daggerfall, just guards and the peasants that walk around outside

I want to play Daggerfall Unity, and I know it's playable now, but I'm a one-and-done kinda game player. Once I beat a game, it's hard for me to replay it. If I get it all set up now in it's current state (alpha 0.10.4) will I have to start over from the beginning once 0.10.5+ releases?

having a fast level progression in general. the strength of spells is based on your character level, and even with the minimum values of "+1 per 1 level" become extremely op after level 10

I have a small question. Do the stat boosts from lycanthropy cause the skills to increase slower? I'm a low level, and I would want to wait until later if it would make my leveling slow as shit

Switch archery out since you have destructions for long range in its place.

I think some faction quests haven't been implemented and the old HUD is missing, it feels more like a beta than an alpha desu, I finished the main quest a couple of weeks ago without any bugs.

I thought even classic Daggerfall eventually patched out the spell name prefix exploits? At least, the UESP seems to think so.

Magic skill of 110% or higher makes all spells in that school cost only 5 SP.

Cast When Held: Troll's Blood on a custom enchanted item. Doesn't wear out the item, and orders of magnitude better health regen than the alternatives.

Acquire hircine's ring. Become werewolf.

Spell Absorbtion works on your own area effect spells.

I've cleared nearly 20 dungeons and they've all been fairly unique, is that typical and can I continue to experience unique dungeons or have I been lucky and am going to start seeing similar copies?

the dungeons themselves are pieced together differently every time, they just reuse segments
its no different from morrowind, oblivion, or skyrim, the difference is it's not a one room corridor like the rest

Guys how do I make the perfect Mystic Knight type class? I'm creating my first serious character after doing a few suicide runs to better learn the game. I want to be able to do crazy magic shit while wielding primarily longswords. Also what are your favorite advantages/disadvantages to play with? I tend to ignore most shield types and play with a restriction to Orcish material.

You'll start seeing similar copies after a while. It's not like Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim; those have much more variation in dungeon layouts since their "segments" are just that: segments that were put together in various ways to create a bunch of unique layouts.
Daggerfall's dungeons on the other hand are built by literally just putting a few identically sized square dungeon modules next to each other. No changes are made to individual modules on a per-dungeon basis. There's about 60 unique modules and most of them have an extra variation with a higher water level.
All the main quest dungeons have at least one unique module so if you progress at a good pace you should be consistently surprised however. If you stick to random dungeons you'll eventually memorize where every quest item spawns and how to get to them.

Any Might and Magic 6-8 fans? They feel like handcrafted Daggerfall to me.
