sony loves to abandon their ips when a new console hits. GT and hot shots golf are literally the only sony first party ips that have been on every playstation console

DREAMS is coming soon though.

They made the original game too good and had nowhere left to go in terms of maintaining sales and popularity.

The loading time keep getting longer and longer.

man if little big planet had stuck around longer I really do feel like Sackboy would've wound up as "the" playstation mascot

PS5. LittleBigPlanet 3 sold the best in the franchise. A sequel is inevitable.

Sony's been pretty merciful towards Ratchet

Attached: LittleBigPlanet-3.jpg (1524x1899, 594K)

They really don't want any IPs that don't look like uncharted

IMO Crash was better.
Jak and Ratchet were solid choices.
Kratos was trying to hard.
Nathan Drake is too normal.
Sackboy is good but not as perfect.

they backed themselves into a corner
they perfected the simplicity and basics, now when it comes to expanding if they make anything more deep or complex people whine about how they want it simple
lbp3 tried making things deeper and expanding the tool players had and people hated it

People hated LBP3 because it was a soulless unfinished turd

I rather not have a milked franchise. Let Dreams have its turn first, and when Mm is finished and have new ideas for LittleBigPlanet 4, then they should come back.

Game has been trash since LBP1. The beta for 2 was fun for a week but it was soulless.

t. someone with a Crown.

Media Molecule basically hit a brick wall of what they could do with lbp's engine and made dreams.
Also their community manager went on a berserk rampage and drove nearly everyone away. Shit's dead.

Wrong. 2 was the perfect sequel.
That was the problem. Little Big Planet 2 was so fucking good they couldn't top it.

>Also their community manager went on a berserk rampage and drove nearly everyone away. Shit's dead.
Wait, what the fuck happened? Source on this?

They got rid of the entire craftworld aesthetic, fucked up the lighting, and fucked up the physics. Hardcore players and visualists hated it. Not to mention they created those movie cameras which are the reason LBP3 is full of minecraft skits.

Go look at a screenshot from LBP2. Any one. The entire game has an ugly blue tint over it.

Go play any remotely challenging LBP1 level and see if you can even complete it in LBP2. I'll give you a classic. "2D SuperPlat" by Lucidess. Sackboy's hitbox got screwed up badly.

I know I'm not the only one who didn't like it, either. That's why so many flagship creators quit. What happened to anpostteller? poms?

Also, bonus meme, go try to play Aurongel's "The spirit passage".

The way they changed foggy lights and gas makes it uncompletable because ypu can't see anything. Shame. Was a gorgeous level.

LBP3 sold like garbage, the hype was over, and media molecule was working on tearaway, hoping it would be similarly popular. It wasn't, so they started work on dreams. We all know how that's gone.

I feel like the good ended up outweighing the bad and those are mostly minor aesthetic complaints. Besides you could easily filter the movie levels.
The people who did stick around like steve_big_guns were able to make some absolutely mind boggling stuff. I do think it loses its sense of identity and just becomes a shit tier game engine once you get to where 3 is.
I see your point regardless but I think 1 and 2 each have their own charm to them. Instead of SOUL vs SOULLESS it's kind of like each one has their own unique style that makes them both worth revisiting, even 1 is just for a couple of levels that don't work as well in 2 and the story mode.

Yah, the game is DOA. It's out in early access and barely anyone knows. Why play Dreams when you can model in Blender and make a game in Unity, Unreal, or Godot?

I completely disagree with you there, sorry. Nothing made in LBP2 is impressive. The community was constantly pushing the boundaries in LBP1 and Mm just handed us everything that had to do with logic and mechanics on a silver platter in 2 after pooping on the lighting and giving us a bunch of ugly materials.

Sounds like we can agree to disagree then user. Nothing wrong with that.
I just miss the good ole days.

I love SBG, too. Don't get me wrong. Sky Factory was a fantastic level, but it's an LBP1 level. What did he make in LBP2? Super Bunnio? It was kind of cool that he made a fluid false avatar, but it controls worse than Sackboy anyways and it's ugly.

>LBP3 sold like garbage,
Why lie? Honest question.

Yeah. I only sound toxic because I'm bitter. Game could have had a few more years of great quality community.

BBSes and forums completely dying didn't help it either though.

>proves you wrong

He made a good chunk of the LBP2 and Dreams story levels. Mm hired him after playing his LBP1 levels

Be glad that it happened

There's a good chance we met online a couple times during those days, so I have no reason to think you're wrong. The community was great when it peaked and it's a damn shame what happened to it. Honestly if Sony is considering PC ports of games, LBP1 with Workshop support might actually be enough to revive the community.

THREAD THEME

youtube.com/watch?v=pYnEYclQpiM

I'd like if they just did a reboot without all that microchip crap in it, but they'd be catering to the fringe of the fringe... I just keep creating levels in LBP1.

Honestly, a game like LBP should have been a multiplatform game. It would have not only prolonged its life but the content we would be getting would be far greater. It being an exclusive not only limited its potential but Sony also has a giant cock in their mouth and they only promote what they deem as "cool" at the moment. They were ready let Sackboy and his IP drop dead and instead promote Nathan "Buy a Subway Today" Drake as the PlayStation poster boy.

More people would be against microchip removal than for it but I can see your point. The limitation did bring out some really fascinating workarounds.

That classic LBP1 nostalgia is what keeps me going, so I don't like microchips or bounce pads. There were so many amazing memories in that community. When Bakscratch got butthurt because Aya reverse engineered the 3D glitch he'd been hiding for months? The night water was released? Talking to your friends about those LBPC contests and trying to win? I wanna go back.

What really happened:
>devs got sick of making nothing but LBP and willingly moved on to something else (funded entirely by Sony)

What Yea Forums pretends happened:
>fuck Snoy they killed LBP for cinematic trash reeeeee

Dreams is already looking to be a GOTY contender, and it's not even out yet. Yea Forums needs to stop sleeping on Dreams.

LBP2 sucked shit and then the third one sounded even worse though I wouldn't know because I didn't buy it.

What? Literally nobody is talking about it. And I played the alpha and the early access, they're trash. No texturing at all, extremely limiting thermometer, obligatory motion controls? Kareem's (hope that's his name) masterclass requires you own two PS moves. Sculpting is impossible with the DS4.

I do physical therapy for my shoulder and if I tried to sculpt with PS move I always had problems with that. I am the niche, but like... why no mouse and keyboard control? Why???

I think it's a total dumpster fire on a Duke Nukem Forecer development cycle. I'll just learn Blender or Zbrush...

I keep getting reminded that I need to give Dreams more of a try because it updates every time I switch on my PS4 (which is rare these days). My first impressions of it weren't exactly great.
Any standout levels?

They shouldn't have invested as much on Crash as a mascot considering they didn't even own him. They shot themselves in the foot for the future and since then, they haven't have a singular mascot stick to the Sony name

Dreams is winning big. Hell, even LittleBigPlanet still gets love today.
hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/sonys-dreams-wins-best-gamescom-award-1234301

Naughty Gods are carrying Sony to relevance. That's why they have the most robust console library.

*t. Someone with no friends

Wow. Industry awards. Amazing.

I remember seeing a horror movie ad that reminded me of this little shit, never played his games because I'd get PTSD

Forgot pic.

The next logical step was 3d movement and keep it platforming instead of the "create anything" meme

Now if only it were good.

LBP would have benefited a lot from modding

Ouch

Attached: 1565703690408.jpg (600x524, 53K)

It'll win an art award at best

When was the last time you played? I don't have a recommendations off the top of my head, there's a too many creations, besides the Spider-Gwen demo.

No need to shitpost, we're having a good discussion here

Yeesh. What a miserable fucking list. Winning is an insult.

It's winning GOTY.

It's not a lie. It sold way way below expectations and failed to hit nearly every benchmark, so it ended up on deep discount (and then PS+ as a free game) pretty soon after release. Doesn't help it was a multi gen release, either.

>Little big planet 1
>Soul
>Levels are fun and imaginative
>NPCs are just cardboard cutouts
>Feels like you're a little sack boy in abug big world

>Little Big planets 2
>No soul
>Levels are boring and uncreative
>NPCs are just sackboys
>Feels like you're playing a video game

What the fuck bros

Too long. Actually I just realized I let my PSN sub lapse so I won't even be able to browse shit right? I'll just look around on youtube.

You don't need PSN.

You don't need (((PS+))) to play levels

What are peoples thoughts on LBP on PSP? I never been much into the series but I remember liking that quite a lot, more in terms of levels than the Vita one for some reason.

Good for what it was, but I didn't like thay you couldn't smear materials in the editor.

I mainly bought it because they advertised I'd be able to connect it to LBP on PS3 and use the new materials, stickers, and music on there... which never happened?

Am I high or does anyone else remember that?

Ah good. I'll give it another look, I wasn't really finding much user created stuff at the time that convinced me to put the time into getting used to the cumbersome controls.

Can it even be nominated if it's early access? Besides, we all know Dorito Pope will make sure his BFF will get GOTY

Some of these are hardly complaints and borderline the "old good new bad" mentality
>craftsworld aesthetic
It remained in some parts and could be completely replicated in your own levels by carrying stuff over from LBP1. We not only got more variety, but the option to keep the old aesthetics.
>the lighting
Easily undone in creating your own levels
>the physics
As above. I had this complaint when it came out, simply changing the gravity was enough to sort most of it. Hit boxes were utterly fucked though.
>movie cameras
Cringe machinamas were getting knocked out as far back as LBP1 with the movie camera's predecessor, not sure why the option for different angles is a bad thing.
>play LBP1 levels in LBP2 and they don't play the same
Who'd've thunk?
The new additions were great and managed to balance the need for innovation while staying true to its roots, unlike LBP3. The old techniques worked in 2 anyway, there was nothing stopping anyone from not using them. I still made my levels with the same basic wiring tools as one. I even made my characters out of cardboard over using the Sackbots. The complaint that "its too different" when it's a sequel, one that keeps all of the first game's content at that, is insane.

Ratchet and Clank just got put on a golden pedestal after Sony acquired Insomniac. Shawn stated that Ratchet would be vital series moving forward.

Attached: flat,550x550,075,f.jpg (397x550, 39K)

Don't do that to me user

After the remake I dont know if I want that

Which sucks cause nu-Ratchet is dogshit

Attached: EA_tEyPVUAABlCA.jpg (900x900, 192K)

>Release all your main series games and spin-offs in the same console generation
>LBP3 wasnt even made by media molecule
>Dreams still isnt a finished product

Attached: 1516410761403.jpg (757x408, 124K)

I mean it would either be an unnecessary port we don't need, or a nu-entry that sucks.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Vita is technically more impressive and more polished, but there's something about archaic tools and limited resources that make even simple levels all the more charming. Presentation became the top priority because of how ugly and basic everything looked, so it was easy to tell which levels were mediocre and which stood out. Guys like VelcroJonez (if I spelled his name correctly) nailed aesthetics so well that even though his levels were short people would try to replicate his style.

With all the said the game was buggy as shit, updates were scarce and hit-and-miss, and working together for a community project was infuriating because the game had a problem with corrupted saves.

Was it ever possible to open up the story mode levels on your moon to edit? I always wanted to see how they were made as I seem to remember thinking that some of the levels were made using tools not available to the player.
Would have been helpful for a bit of inspiration in wiring.

That generation was nearly a fucking decade long

Sony probably didn't think they'd spend over 7yrs developing Dreams

>thinking Sony has mascots

None of their IPs are beloved, memorable, or iconic.

LBP isn't a thing anymore because the first one was perfect for its time and there isn't really anything you can add to it. The sequels all felt forced and shitty.

Ive never seen any company create an IP and release that many entries all in a single gen. Aside from like some forgotten IPs.

Dilate tranny.

Ape Escape first.

If a new lbp was released but was f2p, do you think that'd be enough to reignite interest in the series again? Or is it too dead to even be worth a revival?
Pic related (From the info we knew about it)

Attached: 9550524426_8ba702cc86_z.jpg (640x360, 50K)

LBP2 still had a little bit of soul left. But it felt like the art-style was going too far into looking less like the arts-and-craft style of LBP1, but it was still decent at least and worth playing but not as good as LBP1.
Now LBP3 on the other hand, THAT is soulless garbage.

Attached: Eren punch.jpg (1054x216, 50K)

LittleBigPlanet 4 could do the job. Probably a ways out though.
