I've always liked deliberate player sided gameplay and still find 3-genU to be the best feeling monhuns for that reason, because of the "stiffness" of the gameplay. That and the player and monster feel less balanced than before in world.

So GS main here with GL side: GL wants positioning more then most classes by the sheer fact mobility is such massive shit with it, so you need to know where you need shit to be at all times or things can go south fairly fast.

Been using Gunlance for years and to this day it still feels like I'm doing virtually nothing with one, yet everything manages to die within five minutes.

You need to learn that with your long reach, the hops + lunging upthrust will usually carry you into range, even if it doesn't initially seem like it.

Yes, you'll end up sheathing a lot against the likes of Kirin who are smaller and move around more, but that's not really all that different from a lot of the melee weapons. Most other monsters if they do something like a dash attack that puts them really far away from you, you can usually just wait for them to come back to you. Monsters with projectiles that do this I'd sheathe against since they're going to be firing it most times after, but something like Diablos or Deviljho just sit tight for a second and they'll be in your face again.

Also don't forget that if you've misjudged the range on one of your pokes, you can try shelling off it - unless you just fucked up real bad and totally whiffed or they turned, the shell hitbox will reach (especially on Long shell GLs), so you haven't dropped your guard for no damage.

Use LS and abuse the shit out of foresight slash or use IG and use your air movement not to get hit by explosions.

What I don't get is that wyrmstake cannon has scaling damage in the first place, like what is the difference between the shells and a stake that sets off a bunch of little explosions (and then a big explosion) that makes it so one blows right through a monster's armor and the other doesn't?

GS is one of the worst weapons to solo Behemoth with since you can't reliably flinch him. Watch a TA run to get an idea of what you should be doing.

Behemoth is one of the only good fights in world. Which is why world is mediocre.

If you're going to solo then grsb your 13 flash pods, use crit draw, and do a hit and run playstyle. Easy.
You can also roll most of behemoth's shit so yo don't even need to crit draw run if you just learn the moves.

Not exactly. Hammer at least has the benefit of mobility. With GS you're stuck in one place for a period of time so you absolutely have to be on point with your hits.

Charm melding and augmenting certain armors but augmenting doesn't appear until you get a weapon streamstone.

Think of it like a bunker buster. The stake drills into the monster part then explodes inside. It does pathetic damage though so the comparison falls short. It's good for instantly gaining behemoths enmity though! So many hits.

I only like Zinogre because his fight is easy. All you have to do is poke his feet and then his head after he falls over. It's somewhat "comfy". Same for Seregios

AT Xeno's in a weird spot. I hate dealing with his tremors and lava floors and once you build against those he goes back to being really none threatening. Feels good wacking on his chest though.

What kind of hero streamstone did you get

I recommended crit draw because behemoth doesn't really stay still outside of like two moves. The tornado which you should not be letting happen and the smaller meteor.

Being sheathed lets you be safe until you learn the monster and crit draw means that you wont be punished as much for playing it safe. If you feel confident in your rolls then just go with your full 100% affinity set. But dont expect to land any TCS except during the tornado prep.

First of all you're a fucking gay. Second of all, and something nobody remembers: HUNTERS HUNT IN DIFFERENT CLIMATES

Armor variety between genders is based. There should be some armor that is fully covered in males and skimpy on girls and vice versa.
Thankfully the devs understand that just saying "this monster gives heavy armor" and "this monster gives light armor" is boring and instead switch it up between genders even on the same monster sometimes.

AT nerg is harder than extremoth.
Extremoth is kind of a snoozefest until the final area. Meanwhile nerg is a threat that can actually one shot you or take 90% of your health very early on.
And both are still easy compared to a super deviant.

Wide is the best Gunlance since it's the one that gives you the widest viable combos, the only bits it suffers at are fullburst and charged shelling
Normal is fine if you don't mind basing all of your gameplay around the Slam>Sweep>Fullburst>Reload combo and ignoring shelling entirely, and Long is fine if you don't mind holding circle repeatedly for an entire hunt
