The Eternal Debate
I can't really give an opinion since I barely played Quake Arena and played a lot of Unreal Tournament but man, UT had great maps and gameplay, I wish Epic Games wouldn't be as shit as they are now because UT is basically dead at this point
>You just now realize it was supposed to be Quake Arena all the time instead of Quake 3 Arena
Holy shit
UT
the III is in the Q logo
>Weapons
UT>Quake
>Maps
UT>Quake
Movement
Quake>UT
>Content
UT>Quake
Single player
Unreal>Quake 1>Quake 2>Unreal 2
>Modding community
UT=Quake
that doesnt do justice to just how bad Unreal 2 was
ut 2004
Quake was ok but UT was such a package. Played it offline since no internet. Downloaded mods at a friends. The music, the maps, the mods. Tons of fun.
>>Modding community
>UT=Quake
what
quake 3
>what are total conversions
infiltration mod is still one of the most ambitious mods to this day
>quake movement is better than ut
in what sense? you can literally download a mutator that adds bhopping and strafe jumping into ut
stop posting
They were both good. Quake had better movement and raw action, UT had far better variety and interesting mechanics.
there is no debate
Unreal tournament is a fantastic game, but in terms of physics and engine, quake 3 arena is the best mp fps of all the fucking time
it's a fact
UT is floaty as all fucks
I will say I still find myself going back to UT pretty frequently. Haven't bothered with Quake in quite a while.
CPMA
UT actually evolved, unlike Quake.
Also it had far better levels, weapons, music, artstyle, etc.
Us there any hope for the genre to return? With the rise of boomer shooters maybe there will be some interest in the genre.
Honestly i lost all hope after the death of UT4 and Quake Champions being a failure
Both have good modding communities , that gave birth to many good games
I mean UT movement is not bad but going fast in Quake is awesome
q3a was the elitest fps game for tryhards when it came out and ut was the fun colorful fps with wacky game modes
they divided the fps community at the time, there is no right side just people who prefer one or the other
I still have hope, Dusk/Ion Maiden revived the interest in old shooter's, UT4 could have been the one revive AFPS, because a finished UT has something for everyone from Big Maps for battlefield fans to wave survival for PVE player's
Quake 3 Arena didn't need to evolve, it perfected the formula, you can't change anything to it without making it worse. Unreal tried to be different but Quake is the only legendary name.
Quake 3 didn't perfect anything. All it did was delude some people that it was perfect, which is the reason why we keep getting all these Quake 3 clones every now and then, but they all prove why it isn't perfect. Including Champions, in a way.
