I like Inti on their own more, much as I like the Z/ZX games. The only really bad part is the slow drip of games from them.

I wish ASG games had at least one more regular level and boss character and that the first fortress level wasn't just a short stroll toward a boss fight.

Technically, it was never spelled out. There's one or two bots which are popularly assumed to be Wily in robot form, having survived for that long. However, it's most likely that Wily just died off in the same way Light did, after having build Zero.

Rank only changes during missions. Once you complete a mission, you get the new rank. You'll keep that rank until you complete a new mission. Two plus sides: Mission ranks are independent, meaning that you don't need to worry about your mission ranking being nerfed because of your current rank. (MMZ2 changes this and your current mission rank is the average over the game.) The second is that there is only one thing in the entire game where mission rank matters: getting into the room next to Ciel. You just need an A-rank or S-rank to get in there, and nothing else in the game depends on ranking.

The goals of a high ranks are completing the stage fast, taking low (preferably no) damage, killing a bunch of enemies, using no cyber elves, and using no energy tanks. The more of those goals you hit, and the better you do, the higher your ranking.

Finishing the stage deathless will usually get you an A score. Your rank depends on all of you scores you got from the missions. Ranks in Z1 only give bosses a new attack when A or S though, so don't really pay attention to it now

To add to this: going fast doesn't mean dashing the whole time. If you can maintain a steady running pace then that can work too and it will keep you from being too hasty.

You feed elves with the E-crystals. Doing that maxes them out and lets them upgrade. MMZ1 has a sort of a pokedex, and you get a bonus reward (special cyber elf) if it's full.

Your stage rank drops if you use one (or several) of the cyber elves, though. It's a permanent drop for all stages, at least until you NG+. So if you want a high stage rank, then avoid using the cyber elves. You're free to use them after you get that A-rank or S-rank for the door behind Ciel, though.

I use them as soon as possible. Even if they need to be levelled up, I just use them right away.
I consider it a service to the world for exterminating vermin.

I never used elves in any of the games because of this, it feels like a sucker punch. Especially since I think in MMZ3, it actually deducts points if you haven't used any elves at all.
I wish you could at least use them outside of missions, like the HP bar extenders, but even that screws you over.

MMZ3 activated all your cyber elves automatically when you entered cyberspace, which didn't count against your score. So you were free to use them all as much as you'd like that way. MMZ4 had one special cyber-elf that you just pumps up stats and had always equipped.

I remember getting to the end of MMZ3 and it gave me -5 or -10 for having an Elf usage of 0. Might be misremembering, but yeah I wish the way it scores you was explained better.
Looking back at it now, it seems like you're intended to use one or two of the permanent elves to increase your life bar, boost running speed, etc.

I was making a joke, although "seriously", Zero has both a shield and can cut through projectiles. So he'd be able to beat Gunvolt's tags and prevent his main method of attacking. Meanwhile, Gunvolt needs to deal with the big ass Z-Saber range and whatever other weapon Zero is packing, and really only has his specials as attack options. Zero has a pretty huge advantage, even ignoring the human vs. robot endurance situation, so outside an ambush or really unfavorable terrain he's likely the winner.

Zero is vastly better, although it depends on what you really want. MMZ is a challenging, punishing platformer while MMZX is an exploration platformer, so it really depends on which kind of game you prefer. MMZXA is a disappointment.

Zx is a more family-friendly version of Zero. But both are good. They have their own charm.

I killed off Moleroid with LX all the time in MMZX1, precisely because you can dash jump over him and slash, and hit him as he passes below you. It completely misses his weak points, too. And that was fighting at an elemental disadvantage. Heck, unless I was required to fly somewhere, I was basically running LX the entire game.

Model L in MMZXA was pretty much as good, although you don't even get that until halfway through the game so you get to use it less.

He was insecure and wanted to be the hero. It's why he was so set on shoving Zero into the back, why he wanted to ignore Ciel's research and possible solution, and why he wanted to be the one to go and "stop" X. He wanted to outperform Zero, which he couldn't do if Ciel solved things peacefully.

Great controls and mechanics, yes. Rematching against the bosses and the gold/silver/bronze medals was vastly better than the first game. Everything else was vastly worse, though. Even the H, F, L, and P forms were worse than their MMZX1 counterparts. The story's disappointing but is honestly the least of the game's problems; both games effectively sidelined the story for the majority of their games anyways.

Literally a broken doll manufactured to replace a leader and given no code or guiding hand to be shown how it's done. Arguably, he is what would've happened if X hadn't gone through his morality check before the events of MMX1, which probably indicates that Ciel was too good at replicating X.

Omega was basically the original Wily killbot programming under Weil's control, the way I see it. Smashing Zero's forehead crystal and releasing the Zero Virus effectively shut down what Wily had planned on Zero becoming, allowing him to start being his own AI robot. Weil went and shoved that back into the original Zero body, turning it back into the killing machine that Zero had originally been intended to be. The whole Zero vs. Omega fight was primarily a fight against the character Zero had become vs. the thing Zero had originally intended to be.

Very happy. I'm glad to see the classic and X collections. I was surprised to see the Zero/ZX collection; I would've expected to see MMX9 before they released another collection. I guess they're trying to get them out while the fanbase is still active and positive. I do appreciate them throwing in all these extras for each of the collections, as opposed to just pumping them out as quickly as possible. I guess they learned the lessons from when the games were originally being released.

What is the gameplay of the Z games like compared to the X series? What's the primary gimmick, if there is one?

I'm aware of the audio dramas, but didn't know about a manga.

The tower was pretty bad, it just being a simple vertical stage with the annoying plant boss at the top. The highway was also fairly dull; it was just a race against something destroying the highway behind you. And you're kind of screwed if you ever want to return because that highway stays destroyed, making it annoying to traverse.

Three or four of the stages also required you to teleport in the front door and travel all the way through the stage if you wanted to fight the boss. Annoying, especially when you could just teleport into the back door in other stages. They were all independent, too, meaning there just wasn't a back way for you to enter the stage either.

Basically, you're playing as Zero. Like in MMX4 or MMX5. You have four different weapons (Saber, Blaster, Spear, Shield/Boomerang) but overall it mostly involves dashing around, cutting stuff up, and charged shots. The charged Z-Saber is now a ground smash rather than a projectile, further enforcing the idea of getting in close to enemies.

The first two games required you to use weapons to unlock the full charge on weapons and combos, so no charged Z-Saber from the start. First game just has element chips to take advantage of boss weaknesses. Second and later games started introducing stealing weapon techniques from enemy bosses, similar to how boss weapons worked for Zero in MMX4.

Other than that, it's very hard and will kick your ass.

Model Albert is a completely unique biometal based on Albert himself and nothing else prior.

It's irrelevant to the series anyways. The other biometals are "not technically" related to characters in the series, although it's clear what they were going for. Hell, there's not even anything left of Zero or Phantom for Ciel to put into a biometal, if you want to be technical. They knew that everybody would be looking at Model A and be thinking Axl, which is why they used that twist. "Biometal Albert" hardly even makes sense anyways, so it doesn't matter much.

You could always say that Model A is where Axl eventually ended up, after all. He's been missing since before the Elf Wars so who knows where he ended up, or what exactly Albert used to make biometal A. I mean, Albert doesn't exactly have the transforming powers that his "Model Albert" does.

Well you can equip two weapons and use a shoulder button to toggle / hold swap them on the go. It really quickens up the pace to say the least.

I never got the whole thing about Zero games being harder than X games. In X you do shit for damage, the subtanks go in one use no matter how much health you needed from it, he controls less smoothly, there is a lot more actual bullshit in the level design in some of the games, and you can only use 1 weapon at a time. I guess I can understand if it's only a comparison to Z1 with no elf usage but overall I always thought that considering the Zero games to be harder than X games was inaccurate. That said, any Zero game on hard mode is probably harder than all the hard X games.

He was so assblasted by Dr. Light that his raw disdain for that man and everything relating to him was felt for centuries even after his death.

Zero 1 is mostly just an absolutely brutal fuckfest. Leaps of faith, asshole design, tight missions like defusing the bombs in the factory, and bosses that don't mess around while you have to level your shit on top of having barely any health unless you use Elves. There's no consequence to abusing them besides rank, compared to Zero 2 and 3, but the game is absolutely relentless. 2 and 3 are both still pretty damn tough, but a lot more fair for the most part besides being stingy about EX Skills. They're also tougher than X games on average because X games are easier to get the goodies in usually, and the most favorite games are only a moderate challenge compared to the less-liked X games not being afraid to kick you in the dick.

Fuck this asshole, I felt that he got away with things too easily and the game had the audacity to turn him into a cyber elf after his "death."

I guess. I've just had a way tougher time in X3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Zero games always felt like them up to 7 but with QoL enhancements (elves, double weapons, etc) and easier maneuverability so my shortcomings as a player were less apparent and easier to work around.

X4 is pretty easy peasy with X besides select moments, though Zero runs are the real deal certainly. X3 is pretty unbalanced, 5 is.. weird, and 6 and 7 are 6 and 7. X8 is also rather unbalanced. So you had trouble with reasonable parts really.

Worth noting that while most bosses (specifically those with elemental weaknesses) are vulnerable to the charge saber, there's also going to be some fights where the hoo-hah-huh combo on the ground will be more useful.

In hindsight basically no Mega Man manga or comic has been 100% accurate. They love to expand or subvert canon plots, add new OCs and eventually diverge into a whole heap of crazy new things. Gigamix did surprisingly well with the idea as did the Archie Comics, but then the Zero manga happened. I think the ZX manga is probably one of the most strait-laced adaptations, and then the Advent follow-up took the opportunity to be a lot more comedic.

Maybe. Also I think part of it is Inti stage design is more grounded because they put more focus on fighting than X games did in the levels, so platforming is trickier in X than Z.

The main one only made it to X4 before folding, but it took a numberof liberties in having a good few side characters and showing more of X's turmoil and stuff over all the shit he has to go through. Maverick bosses got actual character to some degree. Ultimate Armor made X unstable and he obliterated Slash Beast without remorse on a power trip. Oh, and he got a mermaid reploid love interest.

Free underwater movement is cool and all, but it's really underutilized in the first game. There's only like 3 areas in the game that have water sections. The first half of Area-L, the last half of Area-F, and that one spike room in Area-M with the rising and falling water, and I'm being generous with that last one. Places like the E-tank grab in Area-K are too small to really be noteworthy.

Not to mention you don't even get the ability until you've already completed Area-F and that leaves you with what? Half a stage and a single room to even challenge the player with this mechanic? They really should have done more with this. If you're going to have a mechanic in your game that functions underwater, you need to have some fucking water in your game!

ZXA did good on this by actually having a bit more to work with, which is a given considering there were more stages to flesh out concepts. Having an additional form that literally required water to even be able to fucking move kinda forced them to start finding ways to add in more water as well. Making it so you can travel up waterfalls was also a really creative idea, but I wish they were used in more than a single stage.

Also wish you could rapid slash on land by pressing both attack buttons in quick succession. Would have been kino
to have something like the triple-rod's charge attack absolutely wreck the non-water bosses.

Protagonist will be a random human/reploid picked by Master Thomas for 'Testing' against compatibility with a bunch of pretty much KO biometals he made using whatever data he could get his hands on from ancient 'heroes' and other characters and reverse-engineering model W, like Ciel did. you get Model V, and Pandora and Prometheus play a huge role as their pasts are revealed and their plotlines concluded in the game. Everything ends in basically a lose scenario and the world is wiped clean for Legends to eventually take place, and there's a secret boss against Model X so Vile finally gets his win.

It always seems to be a point of contention, and I agree, it just doesn't feel right for a final boss. I like the kind of insanity/crazy theme they were going for with it, but they really didn't go into it hard enough in my opinion and it sounds too boppy and light to really drive that home, I think if they really drove that up to 11 it could work really well as an unsettling but epic final boss track.

He sort of looks similar to an EM being (although the artist gave a different reasoning in the BN OCW), it would explain Nebula's space name and elements, and that stuff where Regal made people go nuts with its waves was similar to one of the scenarios in SF1 IIRC.
