This was such a good game mode back when it was first released. This was a year or so back, but whenever I played on the Serious TTT servers, if an actual counter strike map happened to be voted for it would always get RTV'd within a minute of everyone loading in.

TTT and Prop Hunt are what killed GMod. After the storm of let's players, everyone flocked to those two gamemodes and nobody made anything new. Gamemodes like Parasite, Phyght, MelonRP, Teamplay, Fishing, Survival and even fucking Sandbox have pretty much completely died. Now the most exotic content you may find is a Deathrun server that isn't ran by bronies.

Traitor-specific equipment, general suspicious behavior (such as dragging bodies period, dragging bodies into hazards to tamper with evidence, throwing away weapons, etc.), you can't definitively prove somebody's a traitor without them attempting to kill you but you're supposed to whodunnit until you figure it out with a karma slap on the wrist if your problem-solving skills are horrible.

If you're about to get killed, you can call out the faggot and your last dying words will out him. In some maps there are traitor only rooms, so you could get spotted entering and get revealed. Then there is the classic scenario where you get seen killing someone or disposing of a body.
And if not that, the detective and his stupid gear will lead him to finding out who is the traitor.

the problem with TTT literally completely boils down to innocents having literally nothing to do except wait for someone to get picked off. because it's so boring being innocent, even non-griefer players will tend to start accusing and suspecting people, and starting fights. that's why the RDM rule became such an integral and bullshit part of the game.
all of TTT's problems would be entirely solved if innocents had some sort of job or objective. TTT's predecessor, Morbus, forced players to go to a random spot on the map every couple of minutes and it had 99% less RDM/bitching about RDM than TTT ever did.

You'd think the basic survivor objectives seen in Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th would have been a thing in TTT.

Give the innocents something to do instead of stand around and look shifty at eachother, get it the fuck off of Gmod to divorce it from that playerbase, keep the Karma system as a form of self-moderation and keep actual admin power relatively low in normal practice to discourage admin power-tripping (ie only the server-owner can ban, mods/admins can kick at the worst, player-run votekick system, Karma takes care of the rest because if someone is being a cunt it'll be reflected in their dodgy aim and low chances of spawning as a traitor)

The issue probably came up because of actual trolls, just joining the server and killing people at random and making up bullshit reasons why it was justified.

Normal players killing each other as innocents should be allowed, so long as there was good reasoning. The whole idea of the game is to spread uncertainty, paranoia, and chaos, but the chaos is severely limited by rules surrounding RDM. They try to make rules allowing it in certain circumstances, but everyone spams reports whenever they’re “rdm’d” even though they’re doing completely suspicious and retarded shit near dead bodies and whatever else. The worst is when you kill a traitor who apparently wasn’t suspicious enough or obvious enough, like you literally have to wait until someone is actively shooting you to respond.
At that point no skill is involved, how are you expected to win against someone with the first-shot advantage? Then the servers add in all sorts of guns with “perks” that make them severely overpowered and only 5% of the server can ever access, such that the “skill” is to have such an OP gun that even if you get shot first you can still win.

so just add some objective based maps and reduce fagmin powers? doesnt seem too hard.

3 reasons:

There are lots of ways for innos to figure out who the traitor is, if you have a good reason to suspect someone that's one thing but that's never the case you retards just shoot anyone who looks at you funny or guess at random because you're impatient. It's not fun to sit out the entire round because some stupid dipshit decided to shoot you in the face for no reason.

I dunno why they even run TTT instead of a deathmatch server or something if they're going to immediately void the entire gamemode by putting in an instant traitor-finder.

Agreed, I feel the same way about server cosmetics and shit. The entire point is that everyone looks the same, if there's only one master chief on the server and I see them murder someone that's an instant an easy KOS.

Those shits are literally camped every single round depending on the map, either you stay and people find out you are a T, or you stay away and people figure it out by elimination, all of this fairly early in the round.
The only good thing is to head to those rally points early and set a C4.

Some maps had a good mechanic where you had to get certain items from all over the map to actually use it, so the innocents would spread out for the first few minutes.
ttt_rooftops was an especially good map. Both the early and late versions.

Overplayed, interiors are cramped as hell, one shitty tower you know whoever get on top is going to use a sniper, little room for maneuvers, player and weapon spawns ensure that many people are going to die early.

I played hundred hours of ZS, but I wish the game had more semi-objectives maps (like Reactor where you spawn at the bottom but the safest spots are on top and it's a race to reach them), too many rounds ends up waiting in an enclosed room like a fucking idiot, and either losing because the barricades are setup poorly or winning because the area is a bottleneck.

Issue with RDM heavy servers and high maps in general is that this can't really be used.

This happened to me, I didn't really understand the game since it was one of the first times I played, but I saw a guy die, and the killer moving away from the victim's body. So I killed him. He flips out on me that somehow I didn't do it right, even though at the end it was revealed he really was the traitor. I still don't understand the game, but that experience turned me off of it completely.

I disagree with this a lot. When you join a server full of people who know what they're doing, it can be a ton more fun as traitor. The fondest memory I have with TTT is teabagging my traitor-buddy while holding an explosive barrel to get the trust of the detective, and then flinging the barrel into a room where the detective was systematically interrogating, shooting it, killing the entire room in the process, then picking off the rest by camping the room when the rest of the innos go to see what the noise is all about. You don't get the same depth of deception/complexity if people kill each other willy nilly. In my example above, if people would shoot willy nilly holding a barrel would mean insta-death.

The biggest community for it, The Cube, went through some massive drama, it went way downhill, and all of its successor communities died. There was some other shitty server, I think it was Lifepunch, that was fairly popular, but it had some awful addons and I think it went downhill as well

That server was the comfiest time ive had on gmod

probably more than a couple in there.
150gb of it is probably star wars rp shit because every server refuses to use the same models.
highly recommend trolling though. everyone on there takes it life and death serious. its like second life.

Modded servers suffer from the problem of you don't know what anything does. So that AK-47 someone has is an admin weapon/actual pickup. That innocent you just killed gets you rdm slayed for something that 100% would be legit in any other server. If an innocent dies to an admin weapon you know to just kill the admin. It's 100% right answer but then they'll consider it rdm.

Then shit like copycat where you can kill the detective, copy them and look 100% like them. If you didn't know it existed you'd never attack the detective you'd be better off letting them kill you even if they're wrong.

Too much levels of information that's way too hidden behind vague meta gaming. That can be entirely different between servers.
