XCOM 2

>strategy game with time-management research/construction mechanic
>enemies upgrade their weapons whenever you upgrade yours
>enemies get more health and armor as your soldiers get more health and armor
what's the point in even upgrading then

Attached: 1535665395366.png (640x360, 327K)

Anyone sane enough is playing either the original or Piratez!, if you willfully play the nu games you deserve to suffer from shit design.

Go ahead and try to take a squad of mutons with only basic body armor and see how well you fare

Are you sure about that? It seemed more like they upgraded their equipment as time went on and if you didn't, you were left behind and fucked.

They upgrade as time goes by.

>90% hit
>misses 90% of the time

Attached: 1526430548782.gif (200x170, 2.9M)

The aliens don't get stronger based on what tech you have, they get stronger over time as a reaction to the growing threat XCOM poses.
Obviously the reason is to keep the game challenging and interesting.

>Why cant I steamroll the game from week 1 on
t. OP

The originals have a much better strategy layer, but the reboots have superior tactical gameplay.
Having to order around 20 goons was rather tedious.

>Confirmation Bias

I still can't get over the "two action" thing. Give me my time units back

Also the relentless timed missions were aggravating

>elentless timed missions were aggravating
I liked them.

try it

you best upgrade is better than theirs so you will end rushing easily all of the quest

90% should be 9/10 not 6/10 at best and 3/10 at worst

I dont care what people say in this thread, xcom has been my fav tactical game since i played terror from the deep (i still have the box of that game somewhere)

90% is 90%.

>why does the game nullify all upgrades/advantages I develop by also giving them to the aliens
t. actually OP

fake and gay
there is precisely one (1) buff to advent troops in the game
the difficulty increases with addition of new aliens
but hey
you dont have to join the arms race if you dont want to
just kill them with rocks and spears

Attached: You'll cowards don't even smoke crack.png (900x900, 541K)

Favorite class? I didn't get to play too far through but liked the Ranger, the ayys feared the killing power of the katana

is it possible to upgrade faster than they tho?

not in xcom
in xcom its at best 60%
95% is like 80%

It doesnt though. Your upgrades are far better than theirs. The strongest unit they can get is entirely neutralized by some blue little bullets.
Plus all the upgrades to your armor and ranks to your soldiers makes the game too easy later on. You can just blow up entire maps

No

>what is probability?

geez, xcom games always bring the brainlets on board

Yes. You can easily go laser before they bring out any big guns.

Fuck tentaculats. Also fuck the glitch that means you never get armour research EVER, can't remember what triggers it, something about a Deep One corpse

yes

Every shot is 50/50. Either you hit, or you don't.

it actually is an artificial chance tho, the game has the right number your characters have to match in order to hit hidden, and the number for that isnt really that random, players just dont know what number rolls everytime the battle start

are you some kind of special form of brainlet?

based and realitypilled

not sure about 2 but in EU if you rushed tech progression with captured aliens early on you'd be way ahead of the ayys in terms of tech

It even cheats in your favour on all difficulties beyond the highest, you fucking scrub.

see this

baised
not a whole lot of brainlets out today, just these guys
im glad

your game feels like shit to play
show real percentage chance or get out

>Piratez!
Absolutely fucking patrician.

Attached: X-Piratez-4-800x500.png (800x500, 277K)

>plays a game based on managing chances
>gets mad when he misses a 90% shot
I bet your favourite game is Darkest Dungeon

then OP is a brainlet casual

That's how every fucking RNG system works in games.

>90% shot doesn't hit even 80% of the time
>lmao y u mad though
take your RNG cancer out of my video games

but then again the numbers of chance mean nothing (just how close you are of hitting the right number at best)

I just didn't like how easy it was to click on the wrong spot and waste your move. It should have done the Advance Wars thing where you confirm that you want to move to that location and can dial back your move before confirming it.

90% hits even more than 90% in the game. The game even cheats in your favour behind the scenes, not the other way around

>On Rookie, your accuracy is multiplied by 1.2; on Veteran, 1.1. So, a shot that says it's "70%" likely to hit is actually 84% on normal, and actually 77% on veteran. [This applies even for low-chance shots!]
>[If you miss a shot, your next shot that turn gets a bonus:] +10 aim on rookie/vet, and +15 on commander. [THIS STACKS: if you've just missed 2 shots in a row in 1 turn, your next shot that turn has a massive hidden +20 (Rookie/Vet) or +30 (Commander) boost!] (I don't know why this bonus is still active and even stronger on Commander, probably a mistake?)
>On rookie only, [IF you have four or fewer living soldiers on the map,] [for every hit the Aliens made against your soldiers that hit on this turn], they actually get a -10 accuracy penalty. [This stacks! And it can take their hit chance down to zero!]
>On normal and veteran, if you have [less than 5 soldiers, then for every soldier who has died,] you get a bonus to hit (+15 on rookie, +10 on veteran) and the aliens get a penalty to hit (-10).

tl;dr git gud faggot

You've just described easy difficulty. Someone needs to git gud, but it's not him.

He cant even beat Rookie, so hes not touching Legend

nu xcom fucking sucks.

>>On Rookie, your accuracy is multiplied by 1.2; on Veteran, 1.1. So, a shot that says it's "70%" likely to hit is actually 84% on normal, and actually 77% on veteran. [This applies even for low-chance shots!]
I'm skeptical. Does this mechanic have a cap? I've missed a 93% on Veteran before, which should be 102% to hit according to this

the absolute balls on someone to make an entire paragraph filled with the word "Rookie" and then end it with "git gud"

Attached: 1476749675838.gif (330x319, 945K)

if that was true 90% would never miss
get out jew

The game gives you aim bonuses up to Veteran. Its only on Legend where none of this is active.

That's a load of crap. Ayys don't get linear upgrades. They start fielding new units with special traits that require you to take different approaches on top of having more health etc.

:^) projecting much?

>tfw i save/load spam so i never have a problem with this game

I fail to see where this is going when the game adjusts in your favour on 3 out of 4 difficulties and does nothing on the highest.
It never cheats against you

The hardcap for aim assisted shots is 95%

Long War was kino

Attached: SCORCH THE EARTH.webm (830x463, 1.77M)

But I can play as Combine Soldiers, H.E.C.U. marines, F.E.A.R. Clones, Doom Guy and all that good stuff with mods for new games. That's like 50% of the fun.

you cant savescum rng
all the possoble shots are prerolled in advance
you have to move back a couple of turns minimum

Attached: aww hes smiling.png (279x268, 166K)

>I fail to see
should have rolled a 20 instead of a 19 :^)

COMMANDER I FORGOT MY CONTACT LENSES ON THE SHIP, WHERE IS HE!

Attached: 1493945991879-edit.jpg (932x1156, 537K)

like others have said, it's time based. but even if it wasn't you still get tools that make you overpowered later in the game. your progress is simply better than what the aliens get. shit like infinite turns etc

Yes X-COM is a game of maximizing your chances of success

in some games you can, and in this, is not even necessary but when i do, it goes fine

you can succ on this sess

>Less choice is better tactics
t. Brainlet

So you don't get swamped with enemies with a bajillion health you can't dent.

>first real mission with civilians and the chosen pops up
>its the Warlock
This nigga is not so bad later on but with only 4 soldiers, his mind control and exploding zombies he is probably the worst you can encounter on that first mission

Attached: 1558890114591.jpg (1000x1102, 261K)

>he plays on anything but Legend and thinks he can talk

Attached: 1510679640796.jpg (300x168, 13K)

breh its time to stop with greentext+reactionimage.jpeg2000.
I just showed you that the game never cheats against you. 90% is 90%, or depending on difficulty its even more.
So if you cant deal with hitting that 1 in 10 chance once in a while you just have to play a different game and move on

>he thinks he can claim the high ground by denigrating reaction images
>actually thinking you can come back after admitting you play on rookie

Attached: 1513838593489.jpg (243x216, 15K)

>really want to like LW2
>prefer EU's open warfare to X2's guerilla warfare
>runs like absolute ass no matter what, even with an i9 and GTX 1080
>infiltration gets annoying very fast
>stealth isn't really improved over the base game
>new maps are mostly more of the same but just bigger
>explosives still outclass almost everything

Welp, back to LW1.

LW2 is just shit.

>list differences in difficulties to show the game never cheats against you, but tends to adjust in your favour
>you play on Rookie xD
ok bro

Those ship assault missions were kino.

So?

>game cheats in your favor at the easier difficulty levels
Woah.. blew my fucking mind, bro

Yeah I know, otherwise you wouldn't believe that the game cheats and cry about mission 90% shots

I really have to replay that one day, looks like is still getting updated
maybe it might also be a good excuse to make a Yea Forums playtrough

Repeatedly failing 90% accuracy rolls is not "superior tactical gameplay

What a fucking retard

Attached: 1566581171784.gif (512x392, 460K)

You shouldn't upgrade at all so you can flex on scrubs who tell you to git gud when you say the game sucks.

Attached: gotgudlongago.png (1025x651, 127K)

I am not the guy who was talking about 90%, I made that very clear in my first post. Maybe you should learn to follow a conversation.
Also, what the fuck does bringing up easy setting have to do in a serious discussion about game design? It's beyond clear that it'll sacrifice good gameplay in favor of babysitting the player. Shut the fuck up already, you obviously have nothing wortwhile to say.

Based

What are you talking about. Nigga this entire thread in the beginning was retards crying that 90% in the game is more like 70%. Thats objectively false.

That it does, and quite extensively, too. I played it last a year ago, and that giant ass ship wasn't in the game then.

Attached: screen692.png (1680x1050, 178K)

>retard realizes that the conversation moves along as the thread progresses
Tell me on a scale of 1 to 10, how taken aback were you when you got hit by that bombshell?

It would move along if you would post anything that makes sense

It's starting to stop being "wacky in a good way" and is just wacky.

Agreed, but then again, playing on rookie and boasting about it doesn't make much sense to begin with.

thats just you being buttblasted pretending I play on Rookie. See again.

That's not how the game works, just your DSP tier ability to play strategy games.

I think we hit that mark with the giant evil tower filled with the monsters from Doom.

Attached: screen135.png (1680x1050, 336K)

>that sloppy damage control

When is long war of the chosen coming out?

never

2 weeks after firaxis launches the new one

Actually its as time goes by, its just at a curve that is easy enough for the player to keep up.

I remember this because the first time I somehow screwed up research and Advent had gotten an edge over me with armor and weapons.

Another point is that certain enemies willpop up after certain times even if you haven't done the mission that introduces them.

Although I think its more complicated than that, like there are settings or scripts that trigger when you get too far ahead of the enemy in research.

Seed probability. You were doomed to miss from the start.

So what do you guys thing of Xenonauts?

From what I've seen it seems a bit lacking in content. I do like the air battle system a lot, though.

Yes, two ways. First is to use any inspirstion events which give you advanced research esrly or uniwue upgrades. The second is to buy rush research jobs on the grey market.

Xenonauts 2 was stripped of mod support because of rigged forum bullshit and is most likely going to EGS anyway. Xenonauts 1 is horrible, but has some pretty decent mods if you feel like installing them, but they're huge. Gigabyte upon gigabyte.

>is most likely going to EGS anyway
source? no way in hell they'd want to actually compete with Phoenix Point
and the worst case scenario of XCOM 3 also going there because >2K Games

Monthly reminder that Phoenix Point is going to suck dick

>Phoenix Point
>delayed to "December"
It's not coming out until next year, is it?

>Monthly reminder that Phoenix Point is going to suck dick
Keep eating nucom shit, steamcel

Well see in 2020 fag

this is why rng games are always going to be shit
