You should play it because it's where the story starts. Of course if you're a zoomer who just can't into Blood Omen, you can skip it and just start with Soul Reaver when KAIN WAS DEIFIED.
As for why it's a good series, it's because of the writing and voice-acting. Gameplay is only there to fill in time between story beats, and those beats are greatness beyond your wildest imaginings.

Do you mean why play blood omen before soul reaver? It's a good setup to the series and keeps the lore a bit more grounded before it gets crazy. Gameplay is fun if you're looking for something 2d zelda-like. You could play soul reaver first if you really want to but it's nice to check out blood omen at lease once before or after soul reaver.

the actual gameplay isn't to everyone's taste though. Each title also has it's own spin on gameplay so if you find yourself struggling with one title and don't care too much about story you can move on to the next..

Didnt know it was on pc. Was 12 when it came out on psx. I just remember the load times were long as hell.

I don't think anyone will penalize you for downloading an abandonware copy of the PC version.
I think the load times were always a bit much back in the day on any platform but modern PCs are fucking fast now so loading isn't really an issue.

Its not on my abandoneware though and the other sites look skeevy.
Also got no idea if it works on modern pcs or its one of those games that shits itself.

I downloaded it from somewhere like a year ago, works fine for me.

Shit, it used to be on myabandonware but it looks like they want you to buy the game on the PS store. I found that the PC version worked with no hassle other than getting it setup for a modern controller.

The PC ports of all the LoK games are horrendous. The controls alone will make you want to shove your fist through your monitor. Emulate the PS1 version of Blood Omen, Then emulate the Dreamcast version of Soul Reaver, then the PS2 version of the rest of the games in 4k with Widescreen cheats. Simple.
