how bad was zero 1, i heard it had some retarded s rank requirements?

The worst things about Z1 are the shitty pseudo metroidvania world and having to grind your weapons to unlock such basic necessities as 3 hit combo and charged attack. And then you need to grind some more to unlock the 2nd charge.

Zero 1 and 2 aren't that bad once you level up your weapons to max level; which includes grinding. It was fucking stupid. So much that in Z3 you just start out with max level weapons, and everyone loves Z3 for it.

The amount of damage you can take before losing points is less than the sequels. There's also no defense boosts (outside of elves) so you're always getting hit for full damage. In other words, you basically have to perfect run stages if you want 100 points.
There's no actual reason to get S-Rank in Zero 1 though. It's the only game in the series that has no rewards at all for it.

In Zero 1 you only needed an A rank once to get one of the elves, and bosses are actually harder because they gain an attack. It's Zero 2 and 3 that really punish you because you need an A rank or above to get EX Skills.

Yeah, charge attacks are much better most of the time. They're fun to use though. They're also the only way to do elemental damage in Zero 4, but they're not tied to rank in that one.

Z2's are trash, Z3's are good, Z4's are kinda trash but they're your only source of elemental damage besides what you can get with the Z-Knuckle.

Zero 2's weapon leveling isn't bad since the experience carries over between game overs. The grinding for forms is worse I think, since you have to actually clear a mission for it to count.

There's one elf in the hunter base that you can't get unless you're at least A, but you can pick that up as soon as you're done with the intro stage.

This is mitigated by dash jump attacking, since Zero turns into a one-hit kill projectile himself. The rest is the Mega Man staple of trial and error, and even then, I don't remember stage hazards being that brutal outside of the Neo Arcadia areas where they go pretty heavy on spike placements. Most deaths came from boss fights and trying to figure out their patterns.

Like said, but outside of that, the only real perk is you get to fight the bosses at full power/they get a powered up move exclusive to those ranks.

Even then, only Copy X and Fefnir's are worth noting (Fefnir makes the whole ground erupt on fire, and it's slightly tough to dodge, Copy X's final form gets a crazy attack with a very creepy laugh)

It's not worth it in Z1 at any rate. All you get is the bosses use a new move, but it's worth trying for an A or S rank to start so you get a rank locked ELF right away.

Screen crunch problems in MMZ are overstated, the character-to-screen ratio is better than MM7 despite being on a handheld. People just try to bumrush through levels without ever letting go of the dash button because it worked in X.

Weil wrapped up the series nicely and gave it a clear antagonist after Copy X died, along with X6 callbacks with bringing back reploids from the dead, but god damn almost everything relating to him in the series is fucking retarded. The memory-wipes are what puzzle me since that shit would've been helpful, and Model X does specifically state their memories from prior to being a biometal were erased.

X has moral quandaries and a deuteragonist to compare him to. All the others are just straight up heroes who do good things because they're nice (programmed to be that way or otherwise). X also got to feature in two Mega Man series along with lore filling in the centuries between them, so there's a lot of stuff you can talk about.

On a gameplay front X brings a lot more to the table than classic Mega Man does in terms of sheer mobility and gameplay opportunities with ideas like dashing, wall-jumping, the ability to charge your special-weapons to replicate another boss attack (or use a new attack themed after the boss) and most importantly armor pieces. X's abilities are never the same in any game because he gets one or more new armors every game. Zero exists to function as a melee type of character which had very little precedent before X4.

Story-wise it's the edgy teenagers' reboot of Mega Man and that appeals a lot. Sleeker and more human-like character designs, much more serious story that even plays around with political ideologies and corrupt government at points (~X4 the series starts to question "Maverick" as a term because it's being applied to anyone that disagrees with the ruling government, even if that gets dropped almost immediately and not picked up again until Mega Man Zero), and in general you can tell X is more inspired by mech anime, specifically Gundam, than the classic series' root of Astro Boy.

If they really are derived from Model W as a source of data/study, then I can imagine they're effectively Reploid personalities styled after the originals and built into the Biometals rather than specifically amnesiac, but created that way so they're not mini-Weils everywhere.

Just look up the artist on sadpanda (I think they might only have his alias there and I can't remember it) or various doujin sites. None of them are translated by the way but you can pretty easily tell what's going on in the ones I mentioned

You literally just need an iq above 90 to memorize it, it isn't that hard. The backtracking is mildly annoying but vastly overstated.

In Zero 1, you can skip some stages by abandoning them, not that I advocate it. Alsp, after you do missions you can actually free roam and backtrack through parts of the world. It's mostly useful for sone missed stuff or grinding weapon levels.
