This game really has not aged well. There's so many segments where it feels like it's congratulating itself over very mundane things, and forcing the player's to focus their attention on things that are pretty mediocre. A lot of the physics puzzles completely break immersion and the dialogue scenes are very awkward and intrusive. The original had aged much, much better.

Zoomer here. It's bretty gud, all the weapons are fun to use and the levels are cool. Whoever designed On a Rail and most of the soldier segments can go fuck themselves tho.

This. A lot of the physics puzzles felt like it was the developers saying "hey look what our engine is capable of" and for 2004 that was a big deal, but nowadays they just come off as tedious.

HL and HL2 were groundbreaking when they came out. HL1 was the first fps game with a deep story. HL2's physics and face rigs were insane at the time.
