Game balance was bad. Enemies either felt like damage sponges or died instantly. Combat didn't feel like it had enough depth. It was definitely flashy and satisfying at the beginning though.

Other than that it was great.

I can think of a few.

>1. Shit gameplay.
I don't understand Platinum's logic for dumbing down the Bayonetta combat mechanics because it's an "RPG". Even if the combat was good, the way enemies are placed is very haphazard and doesn't give any opportunity to setup cool looking combos, especially since the most efficient way to deal with everything is mashing (which is encouraged by the game). This is a shame because garbage combat is the norm for Yoko Taro games, and Platinum could've easily broken this streak. Instead they just made it fluid and removed the jank, but kept it mechanically shitty.
>2. Difficulties aren't balanced.
Normal is too easy and Hard isn't a good middle ground between Normal and Very Hard. The difference between Hard and Very Hard isn't noticeable and you can get one-shot from a full healthbar pretty easily in both. This also ties back into the gameplay being shit. If it's easy to get one-shot by mobs then you're less likely to go for cool combos.
3. Characters are shit compared to Nier, but no one complains about this since a majority of Automata's fanbase is composed of non-Nier/Drakengard fans. No one in Automata outside of 9S even compares to the likeableness of the original Nier cast.

Pretty sure automata was made on a small budget like all yokos games and made far more. That might explain why they couldn't give the man power to design placement and balance of difficulties/combos systems. Hopefully they give the poor guy a bigger budget next time after the success of automata.
