many different types of axes (of which there is only one)
many different types of machetes
many different types of knives
many different types of of swords (of which there are a couple but because of how shit the combat is it gets repetitive and unfun to use, and one of them fucking kills you when you use it)
different types of greatswords (of which there is currently only one)
a weapon that either incorporates or is a bigger version of a blackjack
more weapons that incorporate stakes and perhaps a gunsword
a sword that transforms into a whip, that would have been my favorite for sure. no games do this

first of all, you can't just say the weapon design is bad. unrealistic? yes. bad? no. the weapons designs are striking and unique. if you look at a weapon from bloodborne you can instantly tell that its a weapon from bloodborne, because you don't just think "oh thats A cool sword" you think "thats THE murder wheel". not and its good for game design. they add variety to the game play. theres only so much you can do with realistic swords and axes moveset wise, where as there are a lot of directions you can take a portable breaking wheel.

theres already a gunsword AND a gunspear in the game, and the threaded cane is a more visually interesting whip sword that better fits with the games theme.

swords where mostly fased out during the victorian era. the only widely used sword was the saber, which was mostly ceremonial. knives and machettes have the problem of having bland uninteresting movesets and the blackjack (or a giant one) is even more stupid then anything actually in the game.

PvP becomes a game of psyching out the opponent, with minimal risk to yourself. Tricked R1s are so fast that it takes them a second to react, by which point they'll eat either a bullet or an L1, which sets you back just far enough to do another L1, which for some ungodly reason throws you right back into them.
Watching people get shredded by trick combos is so brutal you almost feel bad for them.

I have a problem that whenever I replay Bloodborne it takes a great deal of willpower to not immediately rush Amelia to get this and play through the game with it

Bowblade is my new favorite weapon.
I can't find a single shit or samey weapon (besides the two saws) in this game. Maybe stake driver, and even then it was still viable. Wish they could do the same thing in Souls, there's always endless amount of garbage and very samey weapons.

The enemies just hit harder to make up for your fast movement and healing. Thus, there's less room for sloppiness or cheesing than any other game aside from Sekiro.
Dark Souls pushes you into a quality build with at least moderate armor, which makes a huge different. BB's armor sets have absolutely no purpose aside from fashion and minor shit like frenzy resistance, while you're rewarded for dumping into one main stat, helped by the strong scaling and Korean chalice gems.

There's a reason the devs let you get it so early, if you can beat Amelia and kill a few leet hunters at a low level you've earned the right to blend everything in the base game with the meme weapons.

I wish the burial blade wasn't a ng+ or dlc only weapon, really love it.

The Saw Spear is the objectively better weapon. There's no reason whatsoever to use the cleaver in transformed mode as the moveset is basically the same and any extra distance you cover is offset by the slower attacks, extra stamina usage, and lack of serrated damage bonus. When the spear is transformed, it covers good distance with it's thrust attack (which means good thrust damage modifiers) and it keeps the serrated bonus in both modes. And it's also available at the start of the game.

The Beasthunter Saif fooled a lot of people who figured it was just another saw cleaver. The moveset of the Saif is fucking great though.

The Boom Hammer's transformed mode, where you get one hard hitting fire attack, is the only thing that scales off of ARC. That being said, I'm assuming the Boom Hammer and Tonitrus for an early ARC build (because the good gems don't come till late) sounds like a fun idea.

The explosions are awesome and make up for it. The running, leaping and charged R2s are so satisfying.
It's is a great weapon to use alongside the HMLS if you are STR + ARC. It does nearly the same damage without using up all those QS bullets for sword beams

You can dodge out of a saif R1 combo. It doesn't stun lock players like it does enemies you know. It just has that lunge for the first R1 attack.
Me personally, I just shoot saif users while they're still jogging towards me almost in range and get a parry because the lag compensation for this game is like playing Halo 1 on XBConnect. You have to predict everything like 0.5 to 1.0 seconds in advance, depending on the player

I frequently would encounter arcane players who hide disguised as messengers so they can bomb you with the parasite L2 explosion if you got close

Tonitrus was my waifu weapon when I first played BB though. That shit coupled with Flamesprayer tore through the game like a hot knife through butter.

i don't know about one shot but yeah if you can fully charge a tricked r2 it hits so fucking hard. it can even ignite oil because it creates a spark.

Parasite is hard countered but using the loch shield. Blades of Mercy match it’s dashes especially thrust gemmed. You can slip in saif l1s between the dash attacks too if you are playing it smart. If you do the Kos Gun glitch it does get much better as a weapon.

The cane/whip, because the animation when you turn it back into a cane looks ridiculously cool especially while walking.

You need the base weapon to get the uncanny/lost variants, so you still need to beat 2/3's of the DLC for Bloodletter.

You unlock the ability to create chalices of your own by beating the first (or maybe second? I can't remember) boss of the chalice dungeon and then you enter in a code for a false dungeon. Just google them or check /bbg/, you can get all sorts of crazy shit. Not just weapons but runes and gems, and you can even encounter cut bosses.

Really one of the best things about bloodborne, its unique weapons, is also one of its worst. It means there is really not a lot of options for early game replacements for a weapon, meaning you are always stuck using one of the same couple weapons every time until the game opens up a bit more. Dark souls, in comparison, you can use almost any weapon type in the game without ever fighting a single boss, if you want.
