Harmonix actually has a way to kind of fake stems now. For example, Danger Zone was supposed to be in RB3 but they couldn't get the stems, but it's in RB4 because they hobbled together fake stems on their own.

Nah, that was a decade ago. This is something they just started doing a couple of years ago.

I don't own it but I've played it at a friend's a few times. It's ok. It has some new mechanics that don't really add anything. The song selection is pretty terrible imo and there was only a handful of songs I enjoyed, but there is a bunch of DLC. I also found the input lag to be the worst out of any of them but its possible just the TV we played on.

The new controller doesn't sit well with me. I get what they were doing with it in trying to do some what "real" string fingerings, but it was made for people with tiny hands. To hit some of the chords they expect you basically have to wrap your entire around the neck so the bottom of your palm comes around to the top, or find a way to extend your thumb so you can hold it with that while still being able to do "barre" chords with your other fingers.

No DLC anymore. They shut down the channel so you're left with the shitty on-disc selection. And I'm probably too used to RB's auto calibration cause I found the new one to be an absolute shit show.

The worst offense for me is how shit the character creator is. The DLC is all top 40 shit too. I'm not some boomer who needs every song to shred before I like it but in a game that simulates playing rock instruments, you'd think they'd add more rock/alternative/metal/classic/punk songs.

This all comes down to money, sadly. Harmonix is an indie developer now, so they have to put out pop songs that appeal to a wide audience in order to bring in sales. Back in the early days, they had the backing of MTV/Viacom and basically unlimited money to do whatever they want. That's how bands like Electric Six got into Rock Band. One of the devs was a fan and just wanted to get their songs in the game, even if they didn't sell.
