I just wanted a decent game but instead I got 20 hours of inane comedy and chuuni nonsense. The novelty of the game's takes on historical/mythological figures is supposed to be a big part of the appeal, but the fact is the longer you go on the more it stands out how boring and samey most of them are. I realize I'm on the losing side of history on this one, but making all of the characters fucky collectible mascots smeared with piles of contextless moe elements makes things less appealing to me, not more.

It's the dopamine rush of rolling the gacha, getting new servants, and seeing what builds you can make with them. Figuring out how to 3 turn quests, or how to beat challenge quests with low rarity servants. As for the story, yeah, it's nothing to write home about. It picked up on Camelot and Babylonia was pretty good. Shinjuku was pretty fun, too.
Not even gonna argue on most of this shit about that chosen one shit, just not. They're literally your servants that you summon to aide you. Your not entirety "the chosen one", bur just the only guy left who can even atempt to save the world, and not every bitch wants your dick either. Also the fuck is that entire last argument? Unless thats your atempt at explaining how shit agartha is, most of the plots are decently written out, albiet padded out with needless mon fights here and there for "gameplay" Other than that, yeah feel how you will about gacha.

I think the ratio was 10:1 for regular and genderbend servants. It's only so high because we got so many versions of genderbent characters like Arturia/Nero etc
I like the idea of resurrecting legendary figures to fight each other to the death. The cute girls are just a bonus. Nasu's autistic design that fits way to well into a video game is wasted way to much on Fate to be honest. It would fit extremely well in an online game but is just gachashit. Probably will never move on from gachashit either because Nasu is too autistic about shit.
The appeal is both. If you just want generic cute girls you can go to AL or whatever other mobage.

Honestly the game makes a bad first impression because until London the story is terrible. Apparently that's the point in which Nasu checked what DL was doing (the guy didn't even play any smartphone games until then) and started demanding changes and improvements. With the notable exception of Agartha it has been a good ride ever since.
