Pirated it to give it a try and look at the RTX shit. I'm surprised DLSS actually works pretty decently this time. Performance from native 4K to "4K" DLSS (actually 2560x1440) is pretty much doubled and the loss of detail is minor compared to shit like BF V where DLSS is utterly disastrous.

It feels exactly like Alan wake but the twists here makes this even worse. guns are shit, they have the same meme mistake many beginner indie games have that the raycasting for bullets gets messed up. you can try this when going close something with your weapon and trying to shoot. try out different angles, you will see what i'm talking about. it's a problem especially with m+kb.
this supposed to be some parkour game but movement is janky, should be more responsive.
It's a cutscene hell so you better like mr lakes twin peaks larp narrative

DLSS is fucking based when it works, its not as visually impressive as the RTX crap but I'd argue its more of a selling point. Sitting at DLSS games at 1440p ultra wide 120hz steady as fuck with a 2070s.

I don't think I've ever seen DLSS produce good (or at least usable) results before this game. With this game I'd say it's worth using at "4K" at least because the quality drop in most scenes is minimal but the performance increase is massive, so it actually lets you use RTX shit with somewhat playable results for a SP game (I'm getting like 45-60+FPS with a 2080 Ti).

Real question. Does the enemy variety improve?

For a game endlessly called "MUH SCP" the enemy variety is actually complete dogshit. Like I don't know, I'm five hours in, and everything just feels so shallow. The dash feels awful. The telekenesis would have been good if they actually gave you the level of control the gravity gun had especially in FPS instead of TPS. The graphics and "expanded glorified tech demo" feel of it is nice but the actual environments bore me to fucking bits. Like I said, SCP but just utterly soulless.

That being said, the moment to moment gameplay is still fun but it's really the 9/10 experience most reviews I've read have mentioned.

Yea, there was a small chance I might have if it was on Steam or GoG.
I plan on getting games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 on day one, and I usually only ever buy Jap games.
But since the devs obviously care more about money, I do too, so I'll be pirating it.

Well it's not quite "no" quality loss. Control has a good implementation, but I've still seen it fucking up plants and it doesn't do great with fine detail, like it fucks up text which looks nice at native 4K and super fine detail like a chain link fence from farther away also looks kind of messed up (probably because the original 2560x1440 render doesn't actually have the resolution to render small things properly like native 4K). Control is also buried in a bunch of other post-processing shit and blurs, so I assume those are also serving to cover up for DLSS issues to some degree.

I don't think it's really the future, but implementations at the quality level of Control are at least a good compromise for ray tracing. Like, between no DXR + native 4K and DXR + "4K" DLSS I'd choose the latter for this game, though I'd still prefer to not need DLSS at all. We need faster ray tracing cards for that to happen.

However the game is a fucking assault on your senses , the lighting is bring and non stopping the sound is for lore reason a continuous drone , the camera moves like a fucking windmill.

7 hours if it takes you a while to figure out the puzzles and you take the time to read all the notes you find, you could probably comfortably beat it in 3-4 hours if you arent taking your time

Here's the game on max settings sans MSAA on my R9 Fury.
Ignore the resolution, it's running at 1080p.
That said, max settings in this game aren't worth it at all, so I would just turn down shadow res a notch, turn off global reflections, and turn down screen space reflections a notch to gain a 40-60% performance increase.

No, but you can use Nvidia freestyle sharpen filter to get rid of the vaseline effect. AMD has a similar feature.
Nvidia sharpening makes the game significantly more detailed even with the sharpening slider at 0%. Weird.
This game really benefits from slight sharpening.
