They changed his design to feel "cool" and sonic-like, but the game is definitely completely different. Static movement speed, a bit more puzzly, and a lot more atmospheric and story focused. PS1 Klonoa design is definitely five million times better. Worse that they introduced a Shadow-like edgy character in one of the GBA games that became a main character to the series before it died.

Maybe if it had stuck to feel of the original, it would have survived. It was the most profitable game in the series, and the look and feel of Klonoa 2 and the gross 3D models instead of glorious and artistic 2.5D was a big mistake.

His 2 design looks a lot better in the 2D games on GBA and other art materials, but first is still better. Doesn't help his character was severely altered/dumbed down for the GBA spinoffs. The only game that has the atmosphere of the first game is Moonlight Museum and maybe sort of Empire of Dreams, but that one has gross 3D render Klonoa on the boxart and cutscenes

Not only you have extremely shit taste, you also have no clue what you're talking about. Both Klonoa 1 and 2 have 3D graphics. The only thing that's 2D is the gameplay (which, again, is exactly the same in both games).
God I fucking hate contrarians trying to push episode-wars even in consistently good series.

I didn't say anything about gameplay, I was talking about looks. Klonoa is a sprite in Klonoa 1. He's a gross looking 3D model in 2. Also, 2 has some finicky platforming segments, particularly with those enemies that let you fly and some other janky shit. It got me frustrated a few times, while Klonoa 1 was extremely tight and polished.

Klonoa 2 does have a better story though and it did give us King of Sorrow, so I don't hate it.

The graphics in Klonoa 2 are beautiful, the animation in it is passable and can look a bit janky at times. I'd love a HD remaster with modern Nintendo tier animations..
