Nah, Japan is shockingly bad when it comes to cliches and patterns. A lot of fundamental principles of good writing are pretty much alien in Japan.

Foreshadowing for one is pretty much lost on the japanese, and everytime there is a plot development you have to make sure to have a character completely layout what just happened and how it affects the story.

Plausibility, for one. Mistaking plot teists for character development is another. Telling instead of showing. Fucking flashbacks.
A lot of popular Japanese characters are creaking piles of cliched plot twists piled on top of more cliched plot twists.
A good example of unimaginative Japanese writing is making characters half Japanese for some reason. Metal Gear Solid did this to multiple characters. It's rampant in anime. There's a reason pretty much all female Japanese characters are literal cookie cutter archetypes. Why every motherly character has that stupid fucking hairstyle and a terminal illness. All they know is cliches. An ass to mouth chain of cliched bullshit growing more moe and stupid with each ripoff.
