As someone who has played a lot more Terraria than Starbound I can attest that Starbound definitely has the better building and decorating between the two. The artstyle is also more rewarding to design rooms/buildings with.

Micro-builds in terraria look like shit but micro-builds in starbound look like On the other hand macro-builds look about the same

Gameplay wise Terraria easily takes the cake tho

I remember until a few updates it was fucked because you were invincible pretty much as long as you were hitting an enemy, so with dual daggers you can guess how it went

its pretty much a game designed to show the terraria devs what sprites could look like and how building could be done

like a tech demo or something

its a very nice looking game in comparison to the ugly shitfest of terraria, but terraria is all gameplay with passable "graphics" second, whereas starbound is all "graphics" with gameplay that isn't even passable except using a creative mod and time wasting on a random planet (planets which are basically just biomes from terraria, only stretched to be an entire terraria world in size)

the game is an empty shell, which in a space exploration game as sad as fuck

it sold well enough on empty promises that chucklefuck turned into an EA for indie games, now they just publish other peoples work using the name / fame they built from starbound see: stardew valley

The devs didn’t improve anything. Now community modders? They may have made it playable but it’s still inferior to terraria.

I load up starbound once every 8 months or so, desperate to mod it in a way that makes it enjoyable

but it's just such a goddamn chore to play, right down to the core. Such wasted potential really makes me mad. Maybe they should have hired 3 more pixel 'artists' to make furniture sets and outfits, that's what the game needed!
