-Some major characters' designs are a miss.
-The voice acting for the level npc's in 2/3 is uninspired and vastly inferior to the originals and feels phoned in.
-The music is absolutely dreadful - it's soulless and all the power is taken out of it - so thank god they thought to include an original OST option.
-The collectathon did not age so well, I was listening to YouTube videos on the side while going for 100%'s.
-No reason not to have added any additional replay value content to the games somehow - anything at all. Not more levels but more stuff to unlock or time trials or just anything.

It was a good call. That game had a ton of memorable moments and if it was an actual collectathon I doubt there would be such a general fondness for it.

As someone who loved the originals and played them all the time, this was a decent remake.

Only problems I had were a couple weak character redesigns, and 3 being obviously rushed and a little buggy in places. Also, the original soundtrack is many leagues better, but props to the studio for including that in the games at least.

So yeah, playing the original is still preferable, but if that's not possible, then the remake is just as good.

I played the trilogy for the first time the other day and I didn't think much of them.. Spyro 1 is fantastic from a technical and artistic perspective but controls like ass. Spyro is Red Dead levels of unresponsive and requires a giant circle to turn. 2&3 have better gameplay but make the stupid decision of covering the beautiful skyboxes with gigantic walls. There aren't any sweeping vistas like 1. But the most glaring problem is the difficulty, the games are just too easy. You're given too many hitpoints and all jumps are trivial. Crash has tight gameplay which keeps the games engaging, but Spyro gets dull quite quickly after you've admired the pretty landscapes.

Tell me there's a version with audio

In itself is objectively a great game for the sole reason that its gameplay and level design is the same as Spyro, but in terms of style and atmosphere is a shameless rape.
The developers completely missed the feel of the original game and decided to twist everything that made it so charming, starting with the levels and ending with the characters; if you loved the originals you will only loathe this.

20% of them are more beautiful than the original
80% of them are uglier than the original

10% of them look as good as the original

It's okay. Not a fan of most of the new character designs or like half the levels, but aesthetics are subjective. Also didn't like how they changed the supercharge, I thought it worked fine before.

I’m a big fan of the original trilogy. I still prefer those versions, but it’s not a bad remake. If you don’t mind the redesigns, you’ll like it. I felt most levels were good. Some felt easier, some felt harder. I didn’t really mind that. Certain levels of 3 weren’t good, but 3 isn’t anyone’s favorite anyway. Not a huge loss. I still recommend it to jaded Spyro fans

I always liked the design of the cute little villager guys, but as has been pointed out countless times they look like weird sleazy Dreamworks characters now. The Landblubbers were blobby cartoon worms, now they look like disgusting grubs with claws and pores. The Breezebuilders look too gruff and are dressed like Rambo despite working in a harbor, they should've given them sailor hats and life jackets and such instead. The robots and thot fauns look great, at least.

it feels like they were trying to avoid having 3d menu stuff, i can see it for the gems cause spawning that many so rapidly in the remake could cause the game to lag, especially since its also trying to load a whole level, but it should at least still have the destination skybox in the portal tho. cause thats an iconic level transition. still i think the only reason they could do that in the original spyro was because of how the ps1 took shortcuts for rendering.

the real problem is that every studio nowadays only gives a shit about "muh textures" and dont know jack about special effects or rendering techniques. i doubt anybody working on the remake had even the slightest clue about how to replicate the original transition, much less make it seamless

Playing this now as my first spyro and I gotta say I'm shocked with just how unimpressive it is, a fair comparison would be to banjo kazooie and this game feels like a mobile game by comparison.

I'm just looking for any sort of a challenge god knows the platforming in this game doesn't offer any. Just jump and glide for fuck sake, so far the only challenge in the game is "find the platform high enough to glide from"

Last time I went to the CTR threads, virtually every other post was just reposts of Trophy Girls' asses. Much more than the average barafaggotry or even faun/rabbit lewds I usually see in Spyro threads.

it is a kids game, the only challenging level is tree tops, the sequels are marginally more difficult and some of the minigames in those are legitimately difficult as well as being fucking annoying
most of the praise of spyro comes from its atmosphere, im biased because of nostalgiafaggotry, but i think its an enjoyable laidback platformer even if its very easy

People bitched about stuff like the sky, but I say it's better to spend money on a new interpretation of the old games instead of a half-assed approximation of them. The grass is less obnoxious, and that gnorc design somehow also looks way better, closer to the original.

The color is so much better in the original. I couldn't play the Crash 2 remaster because it was off, but Spyro looks worse to me.

Load transitions in 2 and 3 are shit compared to 1 which did it seamlessly
