This was a good game, a great game eve. But it's time to admit it wasn't the genre messiah everyone was over hyping it to be.

No, it wasnt.
But it came closer than any other game before it.
Too short, too much Nero, not enough Dante, not enough FUN and games
Virgin was a boring last boss, especially when you get to shit on him with giga Nero
3 is better
What does this even mean? Quit making pointless threads.
It was good enough for me, close to perfect.
I think DMC5 more than anything I've played recently, is a game where I can think of a bunch of minor stuff that I didn't like about it, but was overall still a fantastic game that I'd consider one of the GOAT. I don't think I've felt that way about a game since BotW.
Actually, maybe Smash Ultimate too come to think of it.
>especially when you get to shit on him with giga Nero
If you seriously think that the first Nero vs Vergil fight wasnt the tightest shit ever then you seriously need to get some taste
This game has no memorable boss fights and the one I was talking about (Vergil vs Nero at the end of the game) is complete shit since you just faceroll him with no challenge whatsoever
I don't like these fake boss fights that are meant to convey lore based strength or weakness, it worked in Demons/Dark Souls but it certainly doesn't here
Not even close. Unless you are very experienced in the action game genre DMC5 is nowhere near that status. No game is, because for some reason action games are the only genre that actually take full advantages generational power leaps. This is also assuming you believe air jump cancel combos are the only metric by which any action game should be measured, which is flat out stupid.
This. Even more so when Nero haphazardly tosses out a "dead weight" at Dante. I bet Bingo thought the scenario was much cooler in his head. Sorry Nero taking a cheap shot at Dante while he was utterly exhausted from fighting his god level powered brother doesn't paint Nero as powerful. Neither does a Vergil who is clearly holding back. I understand it for story reasons, however as a fight it's utterly boring tripe.
J-just wait for SE bro!
Nero is more complex and fun here than both Dante and Vergil from 3
Vergil was a tougher boss than in 3
Dante is pretty the entire last half of the game, he gets the best levels
If this game doesn't have good boss figths and enemy design, than no DMC has those
Why do you have such a problem with people loving this game? Autist.
It's literally the best game I've played since Bloodborne in 2013/14.
It's literally the best action game ever created.
>Too short, too much Nero, not enough Dante
Also too much V.
Give V's missions to Dante and the game would be excellent.
>GAME can't have minor flaws
>STOP ENJOYING THINGS UNLESS THEY ARE ENTIRELY PERFECT!!!
What's your favorite game, faggot? DMCV was pure kino. Only issues I have now that I beat DMD are mainly
>can't play every mission as every character
>no music in void and half of Dante's missions
That's literally it. I had a problem with Vergil's fight until I got to it on SOS / DMD, where he gains tons of new moves. I swear most of you bitching about it only played DH.
RE2 and DMCV coming out back to back was the best gaming I've had in the last 10 years.
I wish you could still fucking sage
>But it's time to admit it wasn't the genre messiah everyone was over hyping it to be
That's because Itsuno himself, a usually very reserved person, was claiming it to be just that which was unusual so naturally the fanbase were going ape shit. It's a solid game and a fucking leap in quality over both DMC4 and DmC but it still has too many issues to be the clear best DMC let alone the best action game ever. V alone brings its score down 2 points for being just so fucking wrong for the genre, environments started to slip towards the end, combat music was hardly used, pacing was fucked, no extra costumes, Super costumes retain the fuck you aspect introduced in 4 so there's no point in unlocking them, some details that should have been explored weren't, DSD is ugly as fuck, and so on. I still enjoyed it immensely but it wasn't what Itsuno said it was going to be.
>Have to download a mod in order to co-op half the missions
you can..
V only has 4 mandatory levels out of 20.
>co-op in bloody palace
>Lady, Trish, and Vergil playable
>turbo mode
Honestly, that would have been enough to make it a 10/10. Still, it’s a well rounded game. DMC4:SE and Ninja Gaiden Black are still kings of the genre, but DMC 5 was a very nice surprise.
It's literally not the same thing at all, nor the same experience. You clearly weren't here in 2007 when shit threads would have 200 sage posts and nothing else.
dmc4 has literally nothing over 5
>DMC4:SE
>king of the genre
Now this is shitposting
Turbo mode and playable characters. Plus, sacrificing speed for animations wasn’t the best move.
DMC 5 is a lot like 3 though where in general it’s a more well rounded game seeing as they were actually allowed to finish it. Gameplay wise I’d say 4 still beats just about every action game, but that’s only strictly speaking about the gameplay.
Both fights against Vergil in 3 are pinnacle boss fight design in video games, nothing in 5 comes even close.
You have to take into account all the factors that go into making a great boss fight, setting, motivation, context, visuals, sounds
The fight in 5 felt more like something the devs "had" to do rather than something they wanted to do because it'd be awesome, it's still fun and challenging but nowhere near as engaging and interesting as the encounters in 3
There are only 20 missions.
Many of them are boss-only missions.
Well turbo mode and legendary dark knight are a shame. And 5 does need some DLC, additional game modes and some more co-op
But you can download the turbo mod.
Nero here is 10x better than in 4, and even Dante here is a more complex and fun character to play.
So gameplay wise 5 is better than 4
Which game is more worth 40$? DMC5 or RE2? I loved both REmake and DMC3 and the Nero parts of DMC4
fuck your storyfaggotary and fuck the visuals
Vergil in 5 is a more complex, well designed and challenging boss figth than the ones from 3.
Add that the fact that 5 gameplay is way better than 3
Capcom's either fucking retarded or being absurdly tightlipped about DMC-related content.
"No"
If I had to choose one it would be DMC5. REmake 2 just doesn't reach the highs REmake did and comes off as lacking especially with Scenario B where they didn't even fucking try to make one. However 5 will eventually get an SE edition, so you might want to get REmake 2 and wait for that.
>Capcom's either fucking retarded
This one. They managed to not only save DMC but make it a hot property, did they immediately strike while the iron was hot? no. They abandoned the game 2 months after launch and have said nothing about the series since. This is Bethesda levels of retarded.
No
I mean, Bayonetta is more fun to play
tv has sneed posting at least
Look at how they acted with Vergil before release. Good thing Dan is such a big mouth because the only news we got was from him.
Nero only gets powered up the first time he fights Vergil which cant even be hard mode
That's one fifth of the game my dude. I'd rather be been just an NPC honestly, I like the playstyle but I really don't think he fits in well in DMC. I'd love to see something like this in Dragon's Dogma though.
It was a good evolution of 4, as 4 was a good evolution of 3. I am content, and somewhat hopeful they'll release more characters/content as they did with 3 and 4.
Matt already told us before release BP was the only thing that was going to be released after. The only reason they might not be mentioning anything is because they're saving it as a surprise for TGS. Capcom loves their surprises especially when it comes to Vergil for some reason.
I'm not playing this game anymore. First it was saving shit for E3, then Gamescom, now TGS. I've already done 10 years of this shit I'm not doing it anymore.
I think it's dumb that you get the power up, but that's only on the first time you play it. The fight is much more even and enjoyable on hard/DMD.
DMC5 was great but a lot of my personal flaws/issues with it are autistic issues. Mainly visual. Like DSD's design or Vergil's hair and clothing.
>one of three playable characters takes up about 1/5 of the total playtime
How is this bad, exactly? It seems fitting for such an experimental character. I'm not the biggest fan of V either, but you guys are really exaggerating with how long you're forced to play with him.
>especially when it comes to Vergil for some reason.
>entire half of the marketing scheme behind DMC5 was "OMG WHO COULD V POSSIBLY BE??"
>HAHAHA WE GOT YOU IT WAS TOTALLY VERGIL YOU IDIOTS!
how do I git gud on dmd? is there anything to know other than dealing as much damage as possible before enemies devil trigger and then having a dodge fest?
That 4th one is fucking SICK and wouldve been fucking kino to counter Nero's one arm.
And now I've just realized that Vergil may be able to shapeshift the Yamato back into the Devil Arm at will.
You could say the same about 4.
It's a return to form, even if it isn't perfect it's still better than the reality where DmC 2 exists instead.
>Nero
>Complex
>Fuck you!
>game has no memorable boss fight
>Vergil's hair and clothing
Hair I can understand but clothing? I personally think DMC5 is the best Vergil has ever looked. Having him wear black to signify both V and growth while Nero inherits his blue is a smart move. How come?
this guy thinks the best parts of a boss "fight" has nothing to do with actual fighting and combat
Well it worked barely anyone was calling V, Vergil. I saw more Ureason = Vergil than V=Vergil.
Oof that's a load of bullshit you came up with
It's a little better when it's directed at his deadbeat dad and not some random fuckwit boss.
Vergil not using his coat sleeves would have been fucking cool as shit
It's more so like what the above user said, his clothing is alright but could've looked like the 4th image for something a bit different
The quality of Vergil, Urizen 3, King Cerberus, Cavaliere, and general overall enemies far outweighs the rare Berial or Beowulf fight.
You seem to forget that bosses like Gigapede exist. Not that its bad, but you probably will talk shit about Greyon Angelo but think Gigapede is fine in comparison from nostalgia.
>but could've looked like the 4th image for something a bit different
Ah yeah fair enough when I saw that in the book I was thinking the same thing. They totally should have done that, even better is when Nero did the whole fuck you thing he puts his arms in his sleeves as a sort of recognition of his power.
The 4th image's coat also has a black fur collar, makes him look like a regal lord along with the sleeveless arm position.
complex and fun in terms of gameplay mechanics, holy shit you brainlet
>doesnt use his coat sleeves when he resurrects
>almost like a blanket on a wounded patient for the added poetry
>during the initial stinger at the beginning of the fight his coat flies off and you fight vests only
You're joking right
>SPLIT MYSELF IN TWO
You're missing my point man, I'd rather he not be playable at all. Any amount of V missions it too many. I don't think he fits into DMC personally, he's too different compared to others. I think the concept would have a better place in a slower action setting like Dragon's Dogma as a summoner/necro class.
But then it would fall of while he was fighting or dante could have tied his sleeves together to prank him.
After playing Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta I sure as hell didn't expect a new DMC game to be a messiah of any sort. Enemies in DMC are not very fun to fight.
>No rememberable Boss fights
Urizen
Roots
Goliath
Nidhogg
Artemis
Geryon Knight
Gilgamesh
The Angelo Squad
Fucking Nobodies
Cavalierre
Urizen (rematch)
Urizen (rematch but as Dante)
Chicken riding bitch
King Cerberus
Urizen (full power)
Shadow, Griffon, Nightmare
Vergil
Vergil (But as Nero)
And I've only done one playthrough of this game yet.
Nigga this probably has the best boss lineup of any DMC game.
>during the initial stinger at the beginning of the fight his coat flies off and you fight vests only
It's autistic shit like this that I feel like was missing from DMC5, they even had the concept art for sleeveless Vergil
The only objectively mediocre fights are Nidhogg, Roots and the gank squads. Half of those barely even count too.
His hair is just too goofy looking. It has too much height, keep the style just give him a trim and he'd look a million times better. Also give him the little tuft of hair that drooped over his forehead back.
>he played on Devil Hunter and thinks his opinion matters
kek
DMC5 was never meant to revolutionize anything.
It was meant to be an old school sequel to a dying franchise in a dying genre.
They set out to make a fucking DMC-ass DMC and succeed splendidly.
The next DMC might be more different, but DMC5 was exactly what was needed after DmC.
>You're joking right
>SPLIT MYSELF IN TWO
Were you not in these threads before release? Vdust/Vundus use to be a thing.
We had this and people still didn't get it.
I still want to know why Vergil looks like a Vergil but Dante looks like a hobo.
>keep the style just give him a trim and he'd look a million times better. Also give him the little tuft of hair that drooped over his forehead back.
Agreed
its literally just the tuft, put your finger over it in your pic and it looks just like einstein ass hair. its the fact that its hyper-realistic is the main problem
Some user did this in the Vergil leak thread, I think the issue is definitely the height, should've had some bangs at least
Because he's been a drunk PTSD ridden mess for 20 years. Literally the in-series explanation.
If Capcom released coatless Dante and Vergil I'd fucking buy it. YOU HEAR ME CAPCOM
Is DMC the only game where the entire franchise wants DLC, and the devs refuse to do it despite it also being incredibly obvious? Most fandoms bitch about DLC.
It was a goddamn great game, but im very puzzled by the decision of NOT having Vergil playable. Even as DLC.
They must have known people would have FUCKING LOVED to play as him, especially since his beef with Dante is pretty much over at the end of the game.
That looks disgusting.
5 Dante after Irregular Full Custom has more options available to him in any given moment than any character in any action game ever made, and V is something that has never been done before. Nero also feels a lot Moe complete and complex. The game is no better than a 9/10 but it's very ambitious in its character moveset design. For my money it has the best boss lineup and one of the stronger OSTs in the series as well.
>its an actual mechanics for his gameplay
>you can use his coat like a matador to attract enemies every time you fling it off or do a stinger
>air taunt is flicking it away
>have to actually go an pick it back up
>wearing it heavily increases concentration
Im genuinely upset they didnt do this, 5 was fantastic but played it wayyy to safe.
Literally nobody called V and Urizen both being Vergil. And even if someone did, it absolutely never took traction. It was obvious the game was about Vergil since he was in the ANNOUNCEMENT TRAILER but nobody got the exact way down. It's pretty kino and you're not giving it proper credit.
It looks a little too richboy style at the top, but I think the back is actually cleaner looking
Check out Chaos Legion.
Vergil is usually special edition though so this is just par the course for capcom.
>Nero
>Moe
based
Stay in the air and juggle enemies as much as possible. Learn to cheese the mandatory Fury fight with Nero.
It's not rough enough, too Sparda or at least non-canon Sparda now that we have an actual image of the man. Lower? yes. But it needs that wildness that betrays the cold exterior.
He doesn't look good with slicked back hair it should look wild like his 3 version did and what they tried to do in 5. They should just reduce the height and I think it'd look fine.
Nobody predicted V being Vergil because nobody expected a fucking Kingdom Hearts twist.
People knew Urizen was Dan Southworth and that was enough of a red herring.
Post the best scenes in the series, I'll start
youtube.com
We literally got spoiled before the game was even announced lol. I have no idea why people didn't run with that since he got everything else correct.
>Literally nobody called V and Urizen both being Vergil.
Dog are you fucking retarded? We figured it out day fucking one.
Someone on twitter translated the artbook blurb from that mission. All this neat info and crapcom won't even release it in english.
twitter.com
why the fuck you mention normal enemies?
are you retarded?
I liked it and it was really fun. I was hyped as fuck when it came out but now when I look back at it I have to admit there are flaws and just some really stupid design decisions like why the fuck would they make so many cool fucking arms for Nero but make them break after using or switching to another? Why would anyone think that was a good idea? At this point I bet there is some asshole Capcom executive that makes these decisions and just hates when people have too much fun and I bet he's the same guy that decides to put a fucking boat in every Resident Evil game.
GOTTA LET IT OUT, GOTTA LET IT OUT
Most kino scene in gaming since
youtube.com
No idea why the V / Vergil / Urizen deconstruction doesn't get proper credit. It's very well written and acted, gives a lot of much appreciated insight into Vergil's feelings, regrets, and ideals. Allows Vergil to grow and be an exposition dump to the audience at the same time. Was fucking kino to me.
Not him but the Angela squad and Nobodies are the final fights of 2 missions.
This, the best you can do against DMC5 is nitpick.
5Dante is the most fun to play of any character action game
did you saw an HP bar under his name?
me neither.
>why the fuck would they make so many cool fucking arms for Nero but make them break after using or switching to another?
To force the player to use the breakages and breakaway my dude. If people could swap willy nilly many players would never break their arms intentionally. It's not like the game isn't super generous with arm drops with the exception of DMD, but by the time you're there you should have the knowledge needed to ration them out.
Agreed on all counts. One thing they really fucking nailed with 5Dante is how different the weapons feel. In DMC3 there's a ton of overlap between most of the DA's (likely intentional to some degree so unless you deliberately screw yourself with Cerberus/Nevan you can always do the basic stuff), in Bayonetta it seems like half the arsenal are functionally pistol alterations.
if a dlc weapon gets anounced for dante would you choose nevan+artemis or lucifer+pandora?
Not the same user but DSD reskin Nevan, but I'd choose something other than Artemis.
>reskin
why?
>other than Artemis
like?
Oh I meant, a seperate DLC reskin for the DSD, not Nevan reskinning DSD. Also I'd bring back Agni and Rudra alongside Nevan.
Out of those options Nevan+Artemis, DSD swords do most of the stuff Lucifer does and more, air taunt is the Lucifer Rose, Double KA does most of the stuff Pandora does.
Dante has a cute bulge! I want to feed him pizza
>Agni and Rudra
DMC1: 10/10
DMC2: 2/10
DMC3: 8/10
DMC3 SE: 9/10
DMC4: 7/10
DmC: 5/10
DMC4 SE: 8/10
DmC DE: 7/10
DMC5: 8/10
fair, i just think luci is the best looking devil arm
Yeah it's great. Probably most memorable DA cutscene too.
dmc4 cutscene Dante is peak Dante, AgnusxDante4life
No, it's not. It's barely better than DMC4 and that game wasn't that great back when IT came out, wither.
DMC3:SE is the still peak of the series.
That's a joke, right? Everyone knew that V and Urizen were Vergil. It was all but a meme. Nobody knew how but V being Vergil, U Being Vergil, both being Vergil, V and U being Vergil were all tossed around. Everyone is Vergil was also a running joke.
What's wrong with DSD?
1 is alright
2 is bad
3 is great
4 is unfinished
5 is the peak of Devil May Cry and Vergil SOS is the hardest in the series, you faggots are tacking on a wishlist in this thread for no reason other than to be contrarian to the perceived popularity of 5 because that’s what you always do
>Vergil SOS is the hardest in the series
Of course a mobile poster would be a literal retard
Disappointing how some people get so defensive about this statement when it simply says that while it was good, it didn't live up to the hype. This happened to me as well because, like mentions, Itsuno made a bold statement that it will exceed fan expectations. Seems like he underestimated the fans or thinks they have low standards.
Like some anons already said, the game has quality, but it isn't perfect and has more then a few flaws. To sum up my complaints. I feel like the gameplay didn't evolve enough, that story needed something more beyond bringing back Vergil, perhaps another villain and that the style shift towards realism wasn't for the best. Oh and they really should've gotten Tetsuya Shibata back on board for the ost.
>style shift towards realism
The DMC games always aimed to have realistic graphics.
They aimed towards stylized realism, in 5 there's very little of that, and its mostly realism.
>They aimed towards stylized realism
Didn't Itsuno outright say in an interview that DMC4 was their attempt at being realistic? no stylized nothing but it looks that way now because of how graphics age?
>achtually no you’re wrong
Oh it makes total sense now fag
I believe what they said was that they originally thought that 4 looked realistic when they made it, but realized it wasn't as much down the road.
The generation in which 4 was released had more then an few realistic looking games but I don't see 4 really comparable to them, even RE5 looked more realistic than it so it's not like they didn't have any frame of reference at the time.
But this is all besides the point, because there's obviously a notable visual style change between previous entries and 5, which I think wasn't necessary judging from the results.
>which I think wasn't necessary judging from the results
It's a lot cheaper to make. By scanning everything from clothes to actors it cuts down the costs considerably and for niche games like DMC saving money in areas like that so more can be put into gameplay aspects is a must.
Oh I know that and understand it. Still doesn't mean that I have to like the change. I'm really not too found of Brush hair Vergil, hobo Dante, hag Trish(and Eva), steel chin Lady nor uncanny Nero. I tried to like them and maybe fooled myself that I did before the game came out, but I realized I was only masking my dissatisfaction with hopeful optimism.
I mean really, Dante's outfits were outlandish and peak style in previous games and now we get this? All he got was a bunch of silly looking belts on his boots that are barely noticeable. I get that Dante was supposed to be tired and "getting old" in this game, but they overdid it imo.
I think Dante is an upgrade from his fucking chaps in 4 although I agree that it's still pretty bland save for the coat which is decent. Sure he's a hobo now but they're telling me he can't at least wear a waistcoat like he did in DMC1? come on Itsuno.
