Snake i guess for being the first one, after he was confirmed, sonic wasnt that surprising.

Ridley. Snake already blew the gates open for sonic, king k rool was always a fan favorite but did not have limitations like ridley, and joker blew the gates open for banjo. Cloud's inclusion is just odd all around, wasn't a never ever

were there ever Snake fags though? I think Snake is up there as a Joker level surprise since no one asked or saw him coming.

Sonic I'm sure people wanted in smash since 64.

Maybe banjo, because he was outright owned by a competitor

For me it was Cloud since he had never (really) been on a Nintendo platform before.

>Samurai basically said he was the easiest character to license of all the 3rd parties

Really makes you ponder...

Hence why Snake is the biggest surprise.
NO ONE saw him coming but he was meant all bets were off.

not really, microsoft is slowly moving away from being a console producing company into becoming third party

>king k rool was always a fan favorite but did not have limitations like ridley
The ownership of K Rool was questioned for years.

Sonic for being a former rival
Cloud/Banjo for being on different consoles
Ridley for previously being directly denied
K.Rool for having no role in years

questioned by retards who don't matter

Cloud by far and away. There were justifications for literally everyone else, however loose in Snake's case, but Cloud meant that all the rules didn't mean shit.

If you didn't see Ridley, K. Rool, and Banjo, but ESPECIALLY Ridley, coming from a mile away, you were retarded.

Cloud for me, since him I haven't been surprised by a reveal.

Banjo>Ridley>K. Rool=Sonic>Cloud

banjo-kazooie, easily. i wanted k. rool for smash and when he came, i refused to ask for more, even though b-k was the ultimate dream that i'd always want.
i still can't believe they're home, Yea Forumsros

Nah
Kojima wanted snake in the series since smash 64
With twin snakes I'm sure people were expecting him in brawl

Any "Most surprising reveal" thread with any answer besides Snake is automatically wrong.

The faggot of scott the woz was right, microsoft will be the next sega

Attached: 20190826_190200.jpg (1280x413, 217K)

>I’m sure people were expecting him in Brawl
Most people still believed non-Nintendo characters could never get into smash, and the people who did believe third parties could get in all thought Sonic and Megaman were by far the most likely. Snake was easily the most shocking reveal ever because literally nobody expected him.

fuck off pedro, no one cares about your efaggots

Fair enough

>With twin snakes I'm sure people were expecting him in brawl
This could apply to Sonic just as well but if you had to guess who'd be in between the 2 would ANYONE expect it to be Snake?

Because Sakurai said he would have included snake earlier if the games were not already finished

Snake and then Cloud.

Sonic at the time. My child mind couldn't process how it was possible.

Yeah after the fact

Cloud, asking for Cloud in Smash was literally a meme because it was seen as so never ever.

Snake, since it was the first 3rd party character

mario

Keep in mind most posters here were around 7 years old when that happened so it wasn't even a reveal to them if they did play brawl, it was just another strange character they'd never seen before like people who played Smash 64 and didn't know Ness.

Snake and then Cloud. Cloud is still bizarre considering he's a representation of Square's betrayal

Sonic was the most hype. Literally everyone always wanted him in Smash. Some of the very first fake rumors on the internet was Sonic and Tails in Melee. Him getting in with live and learn playing felt like something that was 10 years in the making.
Cloud was the least hype. He’s surprising in the same way putting in some random anime character that has never been in a video game would be surprising. Nobody wanted Cloud especially when 4 already had way too many humanoid sword fighters.

>So many people weren't here for Snake's reveal
>Let alone old-school Japan Time

When Snake was revealed, Yea Forums fucking exploded. It was amazing. All bets were off and anything was possible now.

>Nobody wanted Cloud
what

Snake most surprising objectively
Opened the door to third-party gaming icons appearing in Smash with a small number of prior appearances on Nintendo consoles
Remember taking in the E3 2006 DVD from NGC magazine to school for people to watch and everyone flipping out at his reveal

for me its snake then banjo

>Some of the very first fake rumors on the internet was Sonic and Tails in Melee
EGM, not the internet

Cloud

ITT: people who can't read

>"Out of these 5"

Which was answered when Diddy made it in.

No one gives a shit OP.

Thats literally the best thing they could do at this point.

honestly never expected ridley or banjo

ridley, he was the only one who they straight up said wouldnt be in but he made it

are they even making money from the game pass stuff? I feel like its not worth it in the long run for them to do.

I never played a metal gear game until I saw Snake in Smash Bros

Definitely mario. It was fucking insane seeing him revealed since sonic was in smash for so long, it seemed like mario was a never ever. mariochads rise up

Sonic >= Cloud > Banjo > Ridley >= KKR
This is not about best to worse, all were perfection. It's just going from most hype for me personally.

OP just forgot Snake, no need to get your panties in a twist.

He's undoubtedly the biggest surprise, but he was never involved with rosterfaggotry. He changed the game but I feel like lumping him in with post-Snake never evers is almost like a disservice to him. The reveal can't really be judged the same way.

Simon and Ricther were more left field than Sonic and Banjo if you ask me.

Snake too.

Cloud was so much of a never ever no one really petitioned for him seriously. He was a dead surprise. There wasn't even a decent leak floating for him. All the other characters had massive leaks or rumors surrounding them. Cloud is based.

Newfag have no fucking clue how much of a shitstorm Sonic JAPAN TIME was. It brought this board to it's knees for days. Everything after that will always dwell in the shadow of it, a never ever which now is basically only matched by Goku that everyone both wanted but knew was impossible, and there it was.

The OP post was retarded. Why would you limit all character reveals to just the 5, all of them who were heavily requested except for Cloud?

Cloud, no contest.
youtu.be/QsiaywnlP7I?t=107
Only thing that comes close is Ridley.

Cloud can take his two songs and sit the next Smash Bros game out if there ever is one.

crono should've got in instead of cloud

Brawl's character reveals were some of the greatest in the entire series. Snake broke the fucking floodgates for everyone else to come. He even managed to rob Sonic of his spotlight once Sonic's lazy and uninspired moveset came to light.

youtube.com/watch?v=PzQJpP8M7XA

2006-era flip phone video related, shit was hype.

Ridley
he’s the only character here that sakurai outright said would never be playable in smash

Cloud
Once he made it in literally anything was possible

But user, Snake was a Playstation hero too.

Because the topic isnt all character reveals. Go finish your homework, Jason.

And the sky is blue.
See? I can type pointless things too. Anyways, Cloud made it so anything was possible, so nothing is a shocker after him

Joker by FAAAR. I had just finished P5 that summer, so when I saw the announcement at the game awards I flipped my SHIT. His inclusion still makes no logical sense to me but I don't care. I got my dream character.

zoomer

Never ever Banjo, most awaited Ridley

Honestly I was most surprised that Bayonetta got added in.

Richter maybe, but Simon? No way. I remember seeing him mentioned in passing since 2007. He's always had consistent support, but he's also been basically uncontested. Everyone kind of agreed Simon would deserve it if he ever got in so there wasn't a need for much discussion.

Mario was always a fucking FUCK YOU to the fans. Literally no reason to be there.

I'm in my 20s bruh

joker
wtf is he doing in the game

Senpai it's fucking SNAKE. Like it's always been Snake. After Snake every smash reveal has been plagued with POLLS upon POLLS upon POLLS upon POLLS upon POLLS of whose the next non nintendo character to be added.

tell this zoomer what it was like to see Snake in smash?
was it a shitstorm? was it a welcomed surprise?

>Out of these 5 who was the most surprising NEVER EVER to make it into Smash?

I STILL can't believe Banjo & Kazooie are fucking in.
I'm really happy, but this was such a fun twist of fate.

Just wait until the Waluigi reveal next month

Shit
How do you delete a post?

>who were heavily requested except for Cloud?
why pretend this was the case

Did people want Cloud in the game? Yes, obviously.
Did he get rabid drones demanding him in the game like Ridley? Not really. They were probably more chill like Rayman and Crashbros.

Cloud was a ridiculous choice. People put him on their lists but he was basically Goku tier by Smash 4 in that no one even bothered to ask.

Honestly? Snake.
Megaman, Ridley, K. Rool, Banjo and others had more hype but Snake was not only the first third party to be added but he was such an out of left field pick to boot.

If Snake wasn't in Brawl his addition would be considered something akin to Cloud or Joker tier. A character that many people want and deserved to get in but was assumed to have lower likelihood compared to Sonic or Pacman.

His addition was already weird. But the fact he was the one that started it all, honestly it still baffles me today.

Wouldnt that be pacman since namco helped make the game?

>Sonic
He wasn't really that surprising since he was the most obvious choice after Snake opened the floodgates for third parties.
>Cloud
He was the star of the first FF game not to be on Nintendo consoles, and the few people who requested Cloud were usually laughed out of the room. I don't think anyone ever expected him to actually get in.
>Ridley
Sakurai stated on multiple occasions why Ridley wasn't playable so most people thought he'd never be in. Even when there were leaks surrounding him they were usually seen as bullshit because they had Ridley in them.
>King K. Rool
After Ridley's reveal, his inclusion was pretty obvious. The most surprising thing about him was that he never got leaked.
>Banjo & Kazooie
He'd be #1 if it weren't for Phil Spencer's Twitter posts and the guy who leaked most of the roster saying he's in.

Overall as fas as surprise factor goes Id say Snake>Ridley>Cloud>Joker>Sonic>Banjo>Rool

Sort of? In terms of getting the right to use it that was super easy.

But then you have to account that similarly with Sega, Namco was very anal throughout the entire implementation and development of the character.

I can imagine Banjo being the easiest in the sense that Nintendo executives were the main people who went over the red tape and once that was over Microsoft gave Sakurai full control on how Banjo appeared.

Cloud probably, since FFVII hadn't been on anything Nintendo at that point.

Ridley, followed by cloud (mainly due to being one of the guys alongside sonic who got put in fake leaks or children's tall tales), then sonic, then Banjo, then KKK
But Banjo was fun due to crashing the site

Attached: 1558200986614.jpg (1984x1402, 554K)

jesus is this new star wars comics

Cloud is the greatest video game character of all time IMO
I still didn’t want him in Smash. He just doesn’t belong there. He was never in a Nintendo game and Smash already has too much anime fighters.

iirc he also said/implied that he never even tried to get banjo because he assumed it was impossible/improper for him to go for it

>Kojima wanted snake in the series since smash 64

Sonic was biggest for me as guest. But never ever was Cloud for 0 connection to nintendo. Would have guessed black mage wayyyy before him making it.

Cloud. Sonic was more of a matter of when than if as soon as third-parties became a thing, Ridley and Banjo would've been surprising if they weren't ruined by Youtuber faggots, and King K. Rool seemed pretty obvious once Ridley got in. Cloud was the one that wasn't really predicted or leaked of those.

Microsoft is never going to stop producing consoles though. That's part of their business strategy to force themselves into every inch of the market.

Third party(non-echo) Smash characters ranked from most surprising to least surprising(given the circumstances and context of when they were announced).

Snake
Cloud
Joker
Banjo
Ryu
Bayonetta
Simon
Hero
Sonic
Mega Man
Pacman

The reason for Sonic being so low is that basically everyone agreed he was the most obvious pick for third parties after Snake's inclusion opened the floodgates.

Tracer

I'd say Snake was a bigger shock than Cloud.

Cloud.

>mega man
>least surprising

Attached: 1505735519977.png (231x305, 113K)

That's correct.

He was highly requested in Brawl, and was considered an obvious choice for a third party fighter. He was basically inevitable.

yeah well, Ryu isn't more surprising than Bayonetta.

Smash bros you need to get in here NOW#

For me, personally, it was Joker

He was my most wanted character for smash at the time of it's announcement, but thought he would never make it in. December 7th was a magical day for me and I don't really know anyone else who was as happy as I was.

Thank god for Sakurai

Ridley was THE never-ever. Him showing up and murdering two characters while spinning Mario's hat was just too unexpected. K.Rool was a close second with his awesome trailer, and Banjo was alright despite copying K.Rool's trailer. Sonic just file like an eventuality, and Cloud was literally a "...what?" reveal.

At least none of those five were wasted slots like Joker.

Sonic and Snake started this autism train. The others were just a matter of time.

Cloud. Out of ALL the guests, Bayonetta what the craziest, especially when she played like she should and made all the smash babies piss themselves in rage.

It's Sonic. While Cloud himself was out-of-left-field, he came into the roster after the likes of Snake, Sonic, MM, Pac-Man, and Ryu. People were already speculating which franchises could possibly be next and FF was an obvious one. Sonic was still at the time when this shit was in its infancy. Did Sonic get revealed at the end of a thirty minute broadcast? Fuck no. You woke up one morning in late September of 2007 and saw SONIC the Hedgehog on the Dojo with a reveal trailer set to Live and Learn (no one besides the initial 5 for Brawl got reveal trailers - just a splash page and images). Also, the EGM April Fool's made the reveal like a fucking double-take.

But not a single Microsoft console has flopped. While I don't expect Scarlett to beat out the PS5, I don't see any indication of Microsoft leaving the console industry anytime soon.

Sonic is an embarrassment to the video game industry and his inclusion on the roster tarnished its pedigree. You shouldn't have been excited to see him, you should have been ashamed.

I grew up with a Genesis and Sonic crossing over with Nintendo characters was one of the best video game reveals of all time. Eat my day-old ass kimosabe.

nigga come the fuck on

Attached: cant be doin with this.png (126x125, 2K)

everyone but ridley

Ridley only wasn't surprising because he was the last big-name first-party character yet to be in and the outcry was so big that Sakurai had to explain his absence from both Brawl and 4. It was obvious he would have to put his personal biases aside and put the big boy in at this point.

Sonic became a freelancer after the Dreamcast.
Ridley, Banjo and K. Rool had a chance even if it meant waiting for Sakurai to leave the series. They all topped the poll and they're iconic Nintendo characters.
The only correct answer is Cloud. Way out of left field. Just consider how even Corrin as a roster addition is more justified.

>Sonic

He was a given

>Cloud

Nobody expected it, but people joked about it

>Ridley

Well I guess Sakurai swallowed his pride

>King K. Rool

Donkey Kong's arch enemy

>Banjo Kazooie

a reunion of a beloved era of Rare and Nintendo, who belonged in Smash 64
K. Rool was the most surprising, Banjo made me happier, but never expected K. Rool, Donkey Kong himself was seen as a villain among nintendo (being the first one and all) so the villain of his games (who's always bigger than him) and has also been ditched by retro studios has been revived by sakurai of all people made me so happy and completely shocked me
