I still haven't played SMT2 but I don't remember anything about 1 being frustrating or anything. The worst thing is that you have to open the menu whenever you want to look at the map but there's a hack that fixes this issue by letting you open it with L and R.

They're fine. The only thing that you might find really annoying is the high encounter rate. I'm talking every 3-4 steps you're going to run into something. Enemies are easy once you get near the end though. I've beaten KMT, SMT 1 and SMT 2 and enjoyed my time with them. There is a repelling spell (Estoma) but I never used it personally because I could never find a demon with it.

Also SMT is an easy franchise. I hate the meme that it's difficult. There are a few token bosses which can be tough (particularly in SJ). It's not anything infuriating.

These games are mostly standalone so it's fine to leave them until later but SMT I and II are connected so make sure you go for Neutral route in SMT I as that's canon. In my opinion SMT I can be chore to go through at times but SMT II is great. Since you've played Persona 1 and enjoyed it I can't see why you shouldn't give them both a go before Nocturne.

I've been playing through the Persona series after being a die-hard SMT mainline guy, P1/P2 sucked, but P3FES is a lot of fun. Good game to tide the wait till V.

The director already mentioned in a Nocturne remake and we haven't even seem SMTV gameplay. I can only assume they're banking on learning 3D/HD with SMTV so they can do more stuff in 3D.

Personally I'd love to see an anthology series focusing on different mythologies, set in different time periods.

On the one hand they'd probably add a shitty Mary Sue girl to a Nocturne remake like they've done with every other enhanced port, but on the other we'd probably get the only new model of DMC2 Dante for the rest of time. I'm willing to take the risk.

P1/P2 have terribly easy combat, ridiculously high encounter rates, mediocre music and poor visuals. P1's story just seemed like a lamer version of SMT1's story, and P2 got me for 10 hours, but it was so easy and boring I had to play something else. And in both games I found the combat to be less fun and a lot less responsive than SMT1/2. Hell, even KMT played quicker.

What could they even do for the story of a third game? We already did the bible and neon genesis evagelion, the only plots left are citizen kane and vietnam war films.

Also, forgot to say, I felt that P1/P2 felt more like general spin-offs that didn't interest me much beyond how they did the story different. But I'd also much rather play a mainline for the story, at least from what I've seen of both games. While P3 has presented me a wildly different take on SMT mechanics, I do miss stuff like negotiations, but the different art, style, music, and overall gameplay loop make it a more interesting companion to the harsher SMT.

From SMT II onward, the "main" games are on a steady decrease in quality. Not enough that any of the games are bad, just "lesser" to the games before them.

Persona 3 is the worst Persona game.

I liked the music of 1 on PSP, and while I didn't hate the music of 2 on PSP, I felt it to be very forgettable, compared to the rest of the series. And god is the combat easy, everyone tells me P3 is the baby game but it's kicked my ass so far, I didn't get a single game over in 10 hours of P2 but I've had plenty in 3. I never did Snow Queen, just main plot.

Fun Fact that no one is likely to know, but in Megami Tensei (Kyuuyaku) if you have over 25K Macca, you can get 50K from the Village Elder once you defeat Medusa and find him in the Bien Recreational Area. If you have any less than 25K on you, you'll get at least 22K on average, from what I've seen. I don't know why this is, but if you want spending money; there you go. This sounds like schoolyard rumor shit, but it's genuinely not.
