I can play this game all night buddy. That's not a good reason to at least include characters from one of their more original 1st party IP's.

You forgot Roy, Lucas and Mewtwo's rerelease. Anyway, I'm sure most of the reason is that 3rd parties being in Smash generates more hype for people that otherwise might not have played before. It's not just about selling the DLC, which would sell regardless of who it was. It's about putting in characters that act as pulling power for other series. This not only gives them a better relationship with other companies, leading to them wanting to make Nintendo games, or just simply putting their series on Switch, but also makes people that play those series interested in Switch games outside of Smash. It's this big domino effect. This is why people so strongly believe that Doomguy is getting in. Father of FPS in a fighting game? That's a large untapped market of potential new Smash players.

The point of OP's image was to show the DLC newcomers added for both games. Mewtwo, Roy and Lucas were all veterans that had a foot already stepped in the door and thus in a different league from the newcomers.
