I'd have to say classic. Legends Lara improved gameplay wise with each game, but both Legends and Underworld are just so bloody short

Objectively speaking that'd be Chronicles, even though I dislike Rise and Shadow more. Also AOD is unironically my favourite.

If we're strictly looking at consistent quality, LAU trilogy. All three games were solid and faithful to the original series while doing enough different, and Lara still felt like Lara.
The Nu-Raider trilogy had a promising enough start with the first game being a "Okay let's see where they go with this" deal, but Lara never got better as a character and never evolved into the confident badass she used to be, which I originally thought was the point of an origin story reboot. Plus the second two games were bland and didn't improve on anything done in the first, and actively made othets worse.
The original five games suffer because of the last two being mediocre rehash garbage that one dev even admitted on Chronicles was just unused shit from other games, and forcing a dev to make a game usually results in rushed half assed crap.

Honestly every incarnation of Tomb Raider (except for AoD) has the same problem of starting off the best and then backpedaling in quality with every next game until reboot.

I haven't played the game, but I heard that Lara personality wise hasn't much changed since 2013 Tomb Raider, so if that's true that this is a rather weird and weak place to end the series (for now until another reboot).

So she gave up on adventuring? Wasn't the whole point of the 2013 Tomb Raider to show off how she started and what made her choose the path of adventurous archaeologist? How many in-game years passed between 2013 TR and Shadow? Did she even become a famous archaeologist?

Far as I know every single Tomb Raider game takes place the year it comes out except Anniversary. So 2013 for reboot, 2015 for Rise and 2018 for Shadow

Wasn't too heavily invested in the story line. But sure it seemed to me imply that she was done adventuring. Too many people died because of her and all that stuff. Plus I believe they defeated the trinity or whatever that organization was called. the big bad anyway. But who knows. It may came back and lara have to take action once again.

I remember a game my Aunty got my and brothers either on PS1 or PS2 where it started off with her having to jump or climb and somewhere throughout the game you get attacked by a big cat of sorts.
