There was nothing degraded in the first place as the artist original intention is to make it look as good as possible on PS2.

It was okay until they started to put shit that wasn't present in the game. Plus their sharpened textures are nauseating when it comes to scenes with dense detailed environments, guns on a merchant counter in the cave before El Gigante for example will make your eyes bleed. Also Leon face now looks wooden in their mode.
