is cheating in video games bad?
Cheating in singleplayer
true patricians only cheat to skip the grind or to expand the way the game can be played past the original experience.
infinite ammo and health cheats are scrub tier
Infinite ammo is allowed if your infinite spawning enemies too just for hilarious carnage - but that's probably the only exception.
there's nothing wrong with cheating if you're just trying to have fun. Generally you should try to play through without cheating at least once though, since it will ruin the experience if you already played through while cheating.
As long as you are having fun who cares? I generally try avoid cheating or scumming out with saves and help, but some times the fun stops with some bullshit.
cheating makes me bored faster
People can do whatever the fuck they want in single player (though they should at least attempt to beat a game without cheating if possible). Multiplayer is a different story.
>if you're just trying to have fun
Is there any other reason to play a videogame? Imagine being so pathetic that you get a sense of accomplishment from beating a bing bing wahoo.
Not if its the fun cheats.
Like total mayhem cheat in GTA or Postal2.
Cheating to progress because you can't git gud is pretty lame. Cheating to jerk around once you beat the game could be pretty fun (varies from game to game).
Sometime those lead to a different yet quality experience.
Like infinite resources turn a challenging RTS mission into a comfy city builder.
Do whatever you want in single player, just don't cheat in multiplayer. Only niggers cheat in multiplayer. And you're not a nigger, are you?
Genuinely chuckled at having the Red9 stock but not the Red9
tpbp
This, be it competitive or co-operative.
Don't make an article bragging about cheating in a single player game and you can do whatever
One of the best games for playing something with cheatcodes that made things more interesting/fun was Destroy All Humans.
It's the way some games are meant to be played.
I only ever played the GTA series with cheats, just going around on killing sprees and doing cool shit.
Never cared for the story or completed any missions.
I mean it's not a noteworthy accomplishment, but beating dark souls and sekiro for example does feel good.
The first thing I did upon finding cheats for FF7 was reviving Aeris
incel
No, in fact I encourage it.
Doubly so if it's a """"""single player""""""" game that tries to sell you in-game currency/items. You should cheat in those on principle
Okay semi related, I've been playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker and I think I just noticed a bug where the character respec option let's you remake your old char with it's old stats plus a new set of point buy points, effectively giving my PC tons of extra ability attribute points.
I'm strongly tempted to go through with it because I wanted to respec my PC character anyways. Anyone have an opinion?
cheating in games pretty much always ruins the experience. the only exception i can think of is if you reinstall a game you played before that has no cloud saves because you want to nostalgia in a time-efficient manner.
I cheat all the time, but not in typical ways, I like to do things like edit savefiles to remove the aspects of the game I don't like so I can have NG+ playthroughs the way I want.
e.g. playing Ultimate Spider-Man on PC and editing the savefile so I start the game with all the collectable bullshit high enough that all missions are available, and all suits are already unlocked.
Or playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on PC and editing the savefile so all characters are unlocked so I can start a new career with any character I want at any time this is also the only way I've ever unlocked pvt carrera
I like NG+ a lot when it leaves you with all options already available or lets you skip tedious sections, but too many games just leave you OP for NG+ that shit's boring, or they simply don't have NG+.
>Pathfinder
If I touch that shit (maybe if they finally fix the bugs) I'll cheat from the very first minute. Fuck Pathfinder m8, literally the worst D&D version.
I don't know how similar Pathfinder is to 3e but stats don't matter as much as feats and level.
you're not a patrician. you're just a shitty cheater trying to comfort yourself because you're not the worst of all cheaters.
No but it can ruin your experince even if its just to skip grind
As long as it's singleplayer, do whatever you want, it's your game.
Cheating in multiplayer is, as always, reprehensible and wrong for all parties involved.
Cheating for fun, like infinite ammo and enemies for maximum carnage and fucking with physics or cheating to try out weird builds is good. Cheating because you're too lazy to git gud is bad.
Cheats are okay if:
It is singleplayer, you have completed the game, and you're just going to dick around in game for fun.
OR
If the has genuinely bugged out/softlocked/etc and the only way to correct the problem is with cheats
I think its fine on a second playthrough.
You fight Owl bears 2 chapters in that could rape a tabletop adult dragon. The Stat inflation is so fucking out of wack in kingmaker you should cheat at any given opportunity. The game is constantly cheating too so it's pretty justified.
It's also permissible to cheat to get around grind that was made entirely for wasting time or encouraging progression based microtransactions. Cheating in multiplayer is always bad, unless it's entirely cooperative and falls under any positive category I've listed, and if the devs don't care (i.e., cheating for fun like physics or infinite enemies or making weird maps). Cheating in any sort of competitive way is bad and deserves a ban.
>tfw I finished most of the FF games with trainers and emulators and only used the fast-forward buttons.
i've noticed when people start cheating the grind, they often become less and less tolerant of any work in games until any work at all is unacceptable and they act like grinds killed their parents. then, by avoiding grinds, they don't follow the pace of the developers or familiarize themselves with the gameplay enough. then they degenerate and cheat more.
if grind is a time-wasting barrier to something... then be barred. you're not doing yourself any favors by cheating your way past them. you're degenerating into a lazy chump with a sense of entitlement.
depends
Cheating on 1st run? yes
Cheating on NG+/replay to mess around? no.
the fuck is a trainer?
educate me
In a game like this where ammo and health preservation adds to half the fun and tension yes you are cheating yourself out of a fulfilling experience
How old are you?
Feel free not to reply if underage
>the fuck is a trainer?
Not him, but fuck - im feeling old now. Not even shitposting.
>Generally you should try to play through without cheating at least once
why?
interface to give your character top stats, items, monies....
>ywn learn how to use a hex editor on save games the first time again
diablo games got me into hex editing god damn I miss those days
>first post quoted explains why
so are you just retarded or something?
A program that you run while also running the game that lets you do shit like give you money, max out stats, spawn shit, etc. at the press of a button.
Shame he's not playing pathfinder. He's playing kingmaker where the rules are made up.
I just want them to elaborate on the idea instead of it being a matter-of-fact discussion
I only cheat in games after I beat them.
>is cheating in singleplayer games bad
who the fuck cares? play the game how you want, it's a fucking video game and the only purpose of it is to have fun. if cheats make it more fun for you then use them, if they make the game boring for you then don't use them. any other answer is compensation from losers.
I'm fucking 38 and I've been shitposting here since 2004, I'm sorry I'm not emulator-friendly you young fuck
If a game spews out so many elements of bad design then no it’s not bad, cheat to your heart’s content
In singleplayer, not really. You might be ruining a bit of the experience for yourself, though. If possible, it's probably smarter to just lower the difficulty.
Also, if you’d rather a game play itself with bots then maybe try cookie clicker
I remember my infinite rocket launcher only run, trying to free Ashley from the restraints was a blast
It's because buying the game isn't enough
Is this the ProJared thread?
I see
thank ye kindly
i felt bleak when i was a kid and my neighbor introduced me to trainers. back then i felt immersed in games and enjoyed playing regardless of progress. each game felt like a world to visit and live in. when i learned about trainers, it was like seeing that some people like to invade those worlds instead of living in them. like they amuse themselves by passing themselves off as natives but really they're something sinister like a skinwalker. so uh... yeah. cheaters are like skinwalkers.
Oof brainlet
No one should normally care. But when cheaters try and tell you that anything but cheats is bad, that's where I draw the line. The Striker is a bad gun yet people will defend it solely on the glitch. Shit range, shit stun power, deceptive damage because of how close you need to hit all the pellets, an exclusive that does nothing because you should never be running out of shotgun shells anyway unless you go out of your way to use it exclusively. Striker along with Broken Butterfly are the biggest meme weapons.
yeah yeah and I'm 68, it's alright kid, just lurk more
I used a trainer on RE4 in order to give myself Wesker's silencer in the main game.
Just seemed like a cool item to have.
No because normies will complain that the game is too hard if you leave them out. Then again they're not smart enough to just lower the difficulty so I guess it doesn't matter in the end.
>I suck at the game
Cry more idiot, striker is a godsend even without the glitch
Dude chilly your willy it's just a game.
Id say if youve beaten the game after that do whatever the fuck you want
Who cares? It's your game, play how you want to play. You don't need to ask "pro gamer steve" for permission
I ain't got shit to prove to you kiddo, I'm gonna sit here and be spoonfed and there's nothing you can do about it
Because I feel you should experience the game as it was intended to to be played. Once you alter the game it can make things unbalanced and boring.
life is also just a game. why can't you fully put yourself into it? why the detachment?
>Le bing bing wahoo
Zoom zoom zoom
There's always something to prove, you just won't because you can't.
Listen, I'm going to be nice to you and say that faking your veterancy is retarded since nobody actualy cares
i cheat sometimes when replaying old games just to avoid unnecessary time sinks
>games became so easy that cheats are unnecessary and will end up like pic related
Only if you've never beaten the game properly at least once.
After that do whatever the fuck you want, cheating, modding, etc can be a fun way to add replayability.
