No game since Galaxy 1 has truly shown off the horrors and beauty space has to offer. Space is cold and unfeeling but it does have little pockets of warmth where you have everything you need. One could call these pockets of warmth homes.
Galaxy 2 all but threw out this aesthetic for a boring cloud backdrop and a soundtrack that's not nearly as memorable.

spore gave me that feeling, I don't care if it's bad, I still love it because of the space era. Also the first half of the little prince is pretty much the book version of it
Agreed, Galaxy is up there with Odyssey as my favorite 3D Mario but Galaxy 2 shat the bed.
1 did so many things right. It's atmosphere, it's music, portrayal of Bowser. SOUL. Galaxy 2 didn't have that.
Galaxy 2's hub felt like a personal, little heaven. It was a safer feeling than Odyssey's hub. You are making a mistake to pit these two against each other as if they aren't both great in different ways.
Odyssey was lacking a bit in the soundtrack department, but the worlds were pretty and fun to explore. The fact that Galaxy's music is recognizable more than 10 years after the fact. I feel like the only song that's going to remembered from Odyssey in 10 years is the one Pauline sung, maybe the first and last levels.
I deleted part of that by mistake.
The fact that Galaxy's music is remembered more than 10 years after the fact is testament to how great the atmosphere is and how perfectly the accompanying tracks meshed with them.
Rosalina should have inherited the Galaxy games as a spin off series.
Okay, anons. I'm going to try modding Rosalina into a game. Give me something fun to work with.
Monster Hunter World
Gravity Rush
She floats already so it'd be a good fit.
3d mario hasn't been good for nearly 2 decades
2 was more gameplay focused, far more maps and all but galaxy 1 was a fucking masterpiece in atmosphere, soundtrack and art direction
Fallout 4
I'd love to see Rosalina swinging around a great sword, but maybe I should wait for Iceborne to drop for PC. It might break mods.
Is modding games on ps4 and ps3 even a thing?
Are you going to put THAT model into a game, though?
I tried importing it into unity and URE4 and crashed them both. Poly count is too high.
Why not just reduce the polys in the mesh to make a game-optimized version, then?
You make that sound simple to do without mutilating the model. Without the hair, mouth parts, eyes or clothing, the base mesh is like 60K tris, which is right on the edge of what most game engines cap at. It's just easier to make a new one that doesn't explode computers.
Yeah, fair enough. Guess it would be easier to find something else at that point.
It's fine though. I've made more than a few that are more resource friendly over the years. I just really hate jaggies in renders, so I keep using the high poly one. Though, I feel I would be editing an existing asset and adding a few bits on for a game mod. The only games that get full custom assets from modders are Bethesda games and indie games that allow it.
>caring about all this bullshit
2 is uniformly a better gameplay experience and that's the only thing that matters in Mario. Better level design, better ideas, better executions of said ideas.
Does Elite Dangerous allow player mods? You could try exploring the galaxy with her.
The big issue for me is the game being fun and modifiable, I don't want to learn to mod a game with zero replay value or one that's a slog to play though.
No and it's probably the most grind heavy game you will ever play and the devs are incompetent as hell. I'm currently sitting in a station because I traveled for 1 hour to get to an area engaging in active combat with Thargoids to find that none of the stations or bases out there have the required equipment to fight the Thargoid ships.
>and it's probably the most grind heavy game you will ever play
I know that it can get grindy but don't say that when RuneScape Ironman exists.
You'd think they'd have space amazon or some shit that lets you buy these things remotely and have them shipped to you but it's apparently damaging to "MUH PLAYER IMMERSION" so the loud and autistic part of the playerbase is against it.
I digress. It really looks like my options are Skyrim/other Bethshit or Monster Hunter since it's been blown wide open.
>Is modding games on ps4 and ps3 even a thing?
Not on PS4 yet, but Freako was able to hack his PS3 and make mods for Uncharted 3 and TLOU. It'll probably get even easier once RPCS3 gets more stable.

Galaxy 1 was better than 2 in every single way.
Skyrim is just a case of making a hair mod and RaceMenu preset. The Fallout 4 equivalent of racemenu was trash tier when I "acquired" the game and everyone's presets on the nexus still look samey, so I'm guessing it still is shit. Anime face mod is a no go because Rosa needs her big sexy lips.
Thinking about this is all just a bummer. It just made me realize that I don't enjoy many games anymore.
Don't play games if they don't spark joy.
New Donk City and Steam Gardens are very memorable in terms of music.
They're no Gutsy Garden or Space Junk. They're not even Buey base or good egg, they still fall short of Gateway and the Comet Observatory itself.
I would agree with that, but not in terms of level design. The style is very memorable, but it's layout isn't as memorable as, say, Bianco Hills or Pinna Park.
>Gateway
That was perhaps the most well done into sequence out of any Mario title. Everything destroyed, Mario is on this tiny world that seems to be someone's home with afew strange rabbits. What happened? How did we get here? What's the deal with this planet and these bunnys? All while this plays: youtu.be
You catch all the bunnies and they reveal what they truly are.
Then she appears like a beacon or a star. Yes, a star, brighter than all the rest and of course you're going to come to her since she's all you can go to.
whatever excuse you wanna make for this rosalina faptard thread, shitlard

Please download and use this image.
You know, I haven't done an incredibly useful reaction image in a while.
I witnessed someone saying "shut the fuck up, gamer." in one thread with this image and it made my day.
A lot of that good shit was reduced or removed in Galaxy 2, all because Miyamoto got furious over an optional storybook in Galaxy 1. To think such a beautiful game could inspire such a destructive and long-lasting tantrum. Oh hey, I guess it's still going on, because Shiggy himself's here and still fuming over SMG1!
The man behind the atmosphere of SMG1 and Rosalina is also the man responsible for the mood of Majora's mask. The man knows how to world build and I hope they let him off the leash for another game soon.
>I hope they let him off the leash for another game soon.
Koizumi's in charge of the hardware design for the Switch, and after that, I think he'll be tenured enough to be a Miyamoto-level executive. I don't think he'll go back to making games unless he makes a Star Fox Zero to fulfill his "ultimate vision" of what a game should be.
I hope we'll see some more games with feeling like that then since he'll likely be for games like that.
While Galaxy isn't as dark as MM, it still has that sadness but it still has a type of warmth, like a Mother comforting her children after a tragic event. This tone is incredibly prevalent around Rosalina and some of the areas branching off the Observatory.
Who cares? BING BING WAHOO!
Galaxy was made to be more than that, even if it was just a little and that choice made it greater then most.
What I like about Rosalina's storybook is that it's completely optional and has no impact on the game completion. So if you're just playing Galaxy for the fun levels and platforming, you can skip over it and still have a blast. But if you chose to walk into the Library and read the book, it gave you insight as to who Rosalina is, why she takes care of the Lumas, and how the Observatory came to be. It's such a simple and sweet story, yet it adds so much to the game if you choose to immerse yourself in it.
Pretty much. It reminds me of the byegone age where things were put in games even though a small number of people might see it.
Your specifically talking about the observatory while ignoring that Galaxy 2 had better atmospheric levels in general
of course Galaxy 2 was atmospheric, did you think I'd miss all those levels in the clouds?
My biggest problem with Odyssey in general was that New Donk City was head and shoulders above every other world in the game, to the point where it was the only really enjoyable kingdom to play in and explore. The soundtrack was also a joke because they put all their points into the main theme, and is right.
Neither of the Galaxy games are as fun as the 64 type games and both games are at least partially responsible for somebody thinking 3D World was a good idea.
They ain't great.
How did Bizarro get in here?
Mario is best as a linear platformer than whatever the semi-sandbox type of gameplay 64 and Odyssey are. 3D World is one of the better 3D games.
