There's literally nothing A Link to the Past does that other Zeldas don't do better.

Combat is meh, every dungeon literally re uses the exact same rooms, followed by copy pasted bosses. It's over world isn't bad for it's time, but I fail to see how it's underrated in any way.

I very much agree with this user's points. I've enjoyed every 2D Zelda, but replaying later 2D Zeldas just bores me. Zelda 1 and Zelda 3, I still find fun to play through occasionally. Zelda 1 might be slightly better, though.
You could argue about whether re-playability is a good metric for judging a game quality, but I've played them all, so it matters the most to me.

It was the whipping boy of the series until things went to shit on the DS and has an aura of being shit or brutally hard that supersedes any meaningful commentary on it. It's underrated in the sense that not even zelda fans acknowledge it because they haven't beat it or even played more than 10 minutes of it.

The Oracle games would be peak 2D Zeldas on par with Link's Awakening if it weren't for that fucking goron dance mini game

What's the problem with it? You don't need to remember that many "notes", and if you have any sense of rhythm at all, you shouldn't fuck up the timing.

I liked Zelda 2's combat. It is sufficiently interesting/challenging that it doesn't matter too much that some rooms are copy-pasted.

I never liked it, not on release and not now. It feels so unengaging.

I like Minish Cap but it doesn’t hold a candle to LttP.

It has an amazing sound track, great looking bosses, varied dungeons, and great gameplay.

The mechanics for darkness worked great.

The two mirror worlds worked great.

As for Link's Awakening being the best, no. Why? I had this for Gameboy. Playing in the car made me motion sick. To this day, starting it gives me.nausea.

The problem is that it's part of an extensively long segment where you are wandering caverns in the past and future to trade items to gorons so you can eventually get back to the zelda gameplay
The minigame itself goes on forever and just isnt fun in the first place
The Subrosian dance minigame in Seasons was much better

LttP is easily THE most overrated nostalgia goggles game in the whole series.
It is quite literally THE worst 2D Zelda by far, which puts it below any and all the 3D titles by default.

What's with all the love for Link's Awakening? I didn't realize so many people felt this way. I liked it well enough, but can some of you explain why you think it's better than LttP? For what it's worth, I have been playing the Zelda series since the beginning (I'm almost 40), and I think A Link Between Worlds is better than both of them. I also really like Minish Cap.

I found the path to Mermaid’s Cave or whatever to be tedious but other than that I loved the game. Maybe recollecting your items again on that island was annoying as well, but the dungeons are all great and the past and present worlds were pretty fun to navigate.

I played this game because I heard so much good about it, praised as the "best zelda game".
The controls are fucking AWFUL. I hate this stupid fucking shit. You have to be so accurate with hitting things, you have when you do that spin attack you can only move in one direction an stuck in it, turns super slow. Just awful. Z-targeting is miles better than this crap.
Would not recommend.
