i have considered rogue, i want to go warlock but rogue was my second choice, i still might make a last minute decision and go rogue.

eventually people would get on their mains and come hunt you down for being obnoxious its true, but afterward you can slink right back after they leave and repeat the process. So I guess people do work together somewhat. Part of the experience I suppose.

Even if you were a moderately fast leveler, there would be faster levelers who'd be at upper range of the zone's level range (e.g. meeting level 40 players at Nesingwary while you're 30 something). Unless you're fast enough to truly get ahead the curve, your speed and the risk of meeting superior level players barely matters. "Barely" because there will be some folks who'll camp Nesingwary for shits and giggles, but ultimately most folks don't really give a fuck about doing such a thing, and they'll hang out where most levelers are. If you find STV unbearable for example, you can always go to Desolace or something and do less efficient quests and grind a bit, maybe do some extra dungeons.

Besides, slow levelers have leveled on megaservers with several times higher population -> number of potential high-level gankers, than what retail vanilla servers had (presumably applies to classic layers) and came out just fine.

Medium population is still like 3 times the old population cap. When layering is turned off all servers are going to be packed. If not, merges will happen.
There will be a significant amount of players from retail who will basically work an alt on vanilla and who will comprise the majority of the lower castes in the server. Your time expenditure will not deviate much from that. Also remember that level 60 will come eventually and world pvp is a lot of fun. I've personally always hated my pve server horde alt because the world was a lot less exciting without the threat of an alliance questing party in my zone. Playing a PvP server meant really feeling the war against the horde and both pwning and getting pwned added layers of excitement to the otherwise very grindy game.
Also, if you are getting chain ganked just quest somewhere else for a few hours or join a BG queue and git gud.

Honor Kill system starts. Basically people start to get points for winning pvp, including out in the world. Some people think its going to cause level 60 players roam the world for lowbies to kill but actually it has a level range and killing lowbies doesnt yield results.

If you're worried about that shit, just don't play. You don't have to. Vanilla WoW was never like current MMOs, and only started leaving people behind near the end of BC and start of WotLK. There will always be someone on the other faction bigger than you, and they will be looking for small opposition like you to kill. That shit is part of the fun. If you don't think that's fun, just don't play it. Catering to crybabies who have a habit of savescumming and want everything to go perfectly all the time is how this shit for ruined in the first place.

I got through Stranglethorn Vale just fine in a pirate server 2 years ago that had WAY higher population than the types of servers Blizzard are releasing, so you'll be okay too. PvP horror stories are greatly exaggerated. Some PvP hotspot regions will be tough to quest in on certain times of the day, but that can also be fun and full of emergent experiences, or you can just wait and log on at a calmer time - OR you can always just quest somewhere else. You always have a shitload of options in terms of where to get XP, you never even have to step foot into STV if you don't want to.

If you only play WoW Classic to speedrun your character to level 60 and then run the same raid ad-nauseum until you uninstall in a month, then you're a pretty shit person to be honest anyways.

Yeah if you're looking at wowhead classic, that leveling talent guide is more useful on a PvE server. If you look in the comments below there is a post about a drain tanking setup that might be more useful in a PvP server. Only becomes more useful later with good enough talents but no need to respec either.

It's a meme in the sense that all druid tier sets are designed for magic and when the rest of your guild is going to be decked out in their T1 and T2 outfits you're going to have some lvl 40 Boe epic 2h and blues from dire maul just so you can do mediocre damage and tank only specific bosses.

The PvE servers will be fine. There is a pretty good amount of players who don't want to play on PvP servers and medium pop is already vastly more populated than a medium pop in vanilla would have been. A low pop server with their current caps would be equivalent to a high server in vanilla. Blizzard was really conservative with their amount of servers specifically to prevent there being a bunch of dead servers. I really wouldn't worry about low server pops unless your playing on an RP or RPPVP server.

Go for pally or hunter as your first class. Rogue is oversaturated.

No but you lose a small amount of copper and your gear takes durability damage. This might not seem like a big deal or alot, but they all take damage and the more damaged they become the more costly the repairs are, and the repairs are fucking expensive to begin with. As your gear gets better the cost gets higher too. Gold is so important in classic, especially while leveling. Costs for mats for spells and professions, profession training and pats, weapon skills, spells and abilities, gear upgrades, it all adds up and can set you back big-time from getting mounts or needed items, all of these mentioned things cost coin, and alot too. So basically dying really hurt your progress, and unless you are a NEET you will not have the time to ignore these small things that all add up. You also have to run back to your body and some of the longest runs can be brutal. Longest corpse runback I've done was 7 min, graveyard was across the map and my body was in a multilevel dungeon. So it sets you back gold, time and progress in general. Avoid fights unless you are same level, or have a group.

If you pick a lock, learning it is not easy and they require specifics professions to really Excel, but my god they are probably the best class in the game if you want to experience all aspects of the content. They are great at leveling and have some of the best damage output in the game as well as raid/dungeon utility. Summon friends to the dungeon, make healthstone and spellstones. The learning curve is high but the payout is so worth it. Also some of the coolest looking gear in the game, free mounts, awesome lore and class quests. A worthy, fun and rewarding challenge

There's a hierarchy with 3-4 tiers, so you only push off lower priority stuff. A bunch of classes have auto-applying debuffs, like warrior deep wounds, so with 40 players the low priority stuff is just constantly getting pushed off and re-applying without doing much.

yeah depending on how remote the place is you'll get 60's start showing up to defend the place, there are defense channels in chat and people relay to the main city chats when extended griefing is happening. used to gank astranaar in ashenvale, kill the flight master, camp the graveyard.

If you are pvp more than anything go horde so you don't have to deal with will of the forsaken. Undead locks and Orc locks are great, can't go wrong with either. Undead has good leveling utilities but one is negated (undying breath) you get a spell as a lock for underwater breathing so that's one racial perk not needed. However you do get WotF which will make you godlike in pvp. Also resist to Shadow damage so other locks can't roll you as bad and resistance for endgame naxx, but it's not noticable in pvo at Max lvls. Orcs get a damage increase is a ability and let's do extra damage, locks are a pet class. On alliance go human as their racials will help you get ahead with rep grinding and faster progression. Gnomes are good too for pvp scenarios as they are hard af to Target. I'm going undead lock for asthetics and nostalgia. Love the starting zone and they just look cool. Unless you are going to join a progression server first guild or tryhard raiding guild, I wouldn't worry too much friend. Pick what sounds cool

That isnt how MMOs work ever.

There is always a constant stream of new players and old players leveling new characters so early zones never die. Even on generic shitty private servers you would find hordes of players in the early zones.

In terms of PvP vs PvE, there is simply no reason to play PvE honestly. Even if you dont want to play wPvP at all by going out and engaging people it adds so much flavor to the world. You're going to notice that all the culture and faction feuds/rivalry only happen on the big PvP worlds where people get really invested in the whole experience.

PvE worlds are tame as fuck, and often more selfish in that people are just in it for their own grind to 60, there is a lacking community element which wPvP adds.

On average all PvP servers are 45/55 split for alliance/horde. And on PvE servers its 55/45.

PvP is mostly meaningless before Phase 2. There are no rewards or anything before, so players would go hunting other faction as much as later on. Sticking to zones closer to you faction will probably help.
Phase 2 introduces Honor system, but not BGs, so players will hunt others a lot. It would be good to be 60 before Phase 2 is out.

If you plan on a lot of PvP, will of the forsaken is just slightly better than Orc Stun resist. However you can't go wrong either way. Stun resist will ruin a lot of Paladin/rogues combos, plus Orcs look at lot cooler.

The demon rock creature is an internal, and you can summon one as a warlock and cause some serious mayhem. Lol. It's so op you lose control over it and it's basically an elite. You can re enslave it after it breaks control so it's still controllable after that. Will attacking anything when it's not under control which can lead to some cool shenanigan's. Locks and mages are def the coolest classes imo. Can't go wrong with either

See shamans were an attempt at a buff class. They provide the raid with much needed buffs and totems/ utility. This in turn made them not good but not bad at healing and dps, but still needed. I think shamans will be least played this time around which is sad. They are still great all all aspects of the game, just a high skillcap and have to hope you find a guild wanting to work with you.

They're good enough to justify existing but not exciting enough to warrant discussion.

The key to leveling on a PvP server is being able to accept that sometimes the other faction is not going to let you get what you want to get done right now and go somewhere else. Which is fine, because unlike some later expansions almost every level range has multiple places you can go to level up.

Druids get a bad rep but I think will do fine. Little to no gear competition and unless you are in a server first guild most classes will be accepted now that the game is more understood. Druids really aren't that bad if you gear them correctly.

Dl the battlenet app. On the WoW selection tab to the left, click it. It will show the wow page. On the bottom left you will see an arrow going up or down In a small rectangular box. Click it and switch to classic wow and down load. It's about 5 gigs. You're welcome.

As a mage, should I go Tailoring/Enchanting as I did back in vanilla or should I drop Enchanting for Engineering?

Dunno, shamans are pretty interesting as they can do a bit of everything.
In pvp at least they can melt faces, save allies, disrupt opponents and buff your allies.
But they are VERY dependent on their allies being competent as well since they are easy to lock down.

Trust me, you will love escape artist. Slows and roots are a huge deal in vanilla and you have a 1 min cd on it.
You can even precast it if you read your opponent, giving you positioning advantage. I can't even count the times i got kills or survived on kronos thanks to it.

You'll get interrupted if you open with fear though.
