when did this craving for constant 'content' updates come from? i see posts around the internet about people complaining about only 'logging in' twice in the past week because 'there's nothing to do' in the game, like they're being ripped off for not being able to play a single game 24/7 for years without getting bored. its fucking bizarre and sad.
When did this craving for constant 'content' updates come from...
Zoomers
they stopped allowing players to make their own content for their own servers, next question
MMOs had that mindset and shitty recent online games with constant updates raised a bunch of kids addicted to being drip-fed shit content.
Well I didn't subscribe to a MMO just to play twice a week. It wouldn't be a bother if my subscription time didnt ran even if i was logged out.
Games used to be fun and you could play one game over and over, like Sonic, Mario, Castlevania, or Ghouls N Ghosts.
Now games are boring heavily scripted garbage and consumer whores want more and more scripted garbage to play once and forget about.
Nah, people just have no attention spans anymore. I could name a bunch of recent games more fun and replayable than those and Mario and Castlevania were my first games back in like '92 or some shit.
Please do. Any good co-op ones make the list?
Because games these days are lacking the content games had as recently as 2009
ADHD zoomers, shitty game designers, shitty games and shitty publishers/investors pushing games as a service bullshit.
Fuck those fags theyre not gamers
Zoomers and live service games.
Devs are drug dealers now, giving players a dose of dopamine every time new content is out. Without it zoomer junkies don't know what to do.
shut the fuck up xiv nigger
EDF is genuinely video gamey fun.
Monster hunter is great co-op fun, it's about to get an expansion.
DMC5 is my current GOTY and more replayable than the games you listed.
Both posts are correct simultaneously, tbqh.
God that was the worst fucking x-files episode
I don't know why I expected anything good.
Adhd zoomers. Anyone else just did something else in the meantime like read a boom, slave after the jews or play a different fucking game.
Service games are MMOs but with insidious monetisation. Look at MMO's though and you'll see that they couldn't deliver content as fast as it is consumed. This is the problem AAA publishers are encountering. Ubisoft get around this by publishing new AssCreeds, which are effectively expansions to a base game. EA has battlefield, etc. These franchises can only reproduce for so long, however, and so the need for fresh IPs (Anthem, Division) is constant.
I feel like it's only going to get worse brother
the day physical releases are kaput is the day I will stop caring about new releases and just play earlier gen/retro stuff
Because games that just start and update until they taper off and die have no "ending" to leave players satisfied. Nor do they want one because they want every penny they can get even as it dies down to trickle.
This, like pretty much every issue these days, is the result of corporate shittery. People have just randomly mutated to think about games differently. Assuming that the human race can just all go tard mode on a dime is stupid, its always because some shitbag in a suit is doing it on purpose.
I don't know why I expected a genuine interaction.
Tell me some games you like and I'll give you modern examples. And don't ever wojack at me again you fucking shit.
Because MMOs like WoW stopped having crafting and gathering professions feel like they helped you at all and they made the combat too fast paced plus involving too many servers/people for you to get to know others.
Developers decided gamers all had ADD and designed accordingly, even though people could spend ages in games like Minecraft doing barely anything which should be evidence enough that they were wrong.
Sonic, Mario, Castlevania, and Ghouls N Ghosts. Learn to read.
>not liking EDF
you just don't like video games then. go find another hobby you can be passionate about.
Oniken and Odallus
Maybe you could post the same handful of incredibly boring EDF webms to help me see the light.
If im paying a subscription then yeah i expect updates.
If a company is making millions per month then yeah i expect updates.
these
the whole indie wave of 09/10 on pc came paired with this idea that if we just buy simple and unfinished games at the promise of future content updates
now it's become the norm to sell an unfinished game and AAA has taken all of it and ran with it because they would prefer not to have to develop a new game every 2 to 3 years, they'd rather just have a platform for microtransactions that they can just push economically produced content on to to satiate retards
there's also the rise of the next generation and the further going mainstream of the industry as a whole that came paired with incredibly low consumer standards due to having no frame of reference and due to the masses regardless of the industry nearly invariably having shit taste
If these suck I'm going to come back here and call you a fag.
Dead cells, shovel knight, Hollow Knight, Cuphead.
>that if we just buy simple and unfinished games at the promise of future content updates eventually they would replace the old tired conglomerate of corporations that were already causing stagnation in the indsutry
woops fixed
also what's even more infuriating is that many of these indie from that original wave turned around and became arguably worse than AAA ever was, tripwire went with microtransactions after coasting off of "only fixed price dlc 4 the gamers" bullshit and now they're even adding paid guns to kf2, payday went from a really solid dlc policy with no bells or whistles to pay to win and micro transactions, as well as dlc hell
the real problem is the consumer not having any standards, especially normalfag consumers
odallus is good yes can recommend
not that guy while those are good (except for hollow knight) i don't think they live up to the old ones
Really? You'd rather sit down and play mario 1 or sonic 1 than play the games I listed?
I don't think those old platformers hold up at all. Most of the castlevania series blows castlevania one out of the water and castlevania 1 blows mario and sonic out of the water.
these are rad.
these are kind of mediocre.
who ever mentioned just those ones though
Comes from a poorfag's mentality.
Same reason why people seem to think that if you buy a console or periphery you "wasted your money" if you're not glued to it 100% of the time.
I always bring up a smartphone as the ultimate device when this argument springs up and watching them backpedal is the funniest shit
I think the games I listed shit on pretty much any sonic or mario, but I always found those series kind of shallow and boring. I'd love a new ghosts and goblins though.
fair enough
this.
the modern combat shit only really started because of desert combat, a mod for Battlefield 1942.
If MP games were as locked down back then we'd still be playing WW2 shooters.
Streamers popularized this attitude by playing a game for 12+ hours per day and then complaining to their audience how it has no content, forcing devs to try and push out shit quicker and quicker to appease these faggots so they don’t tarnish the game’s reputation to their thousands of viewers. It’s a fucking joke though because generally the content being added is just timesink material to keep streamers happy but doesn’t apply to 99% of people because they don’t spend 12+ hours a day on a single game. The live service model was a mistake, games like Diablo 2 were the perfect pace of content and patch releases.
