who are you quoting?

that first game looks really gay

> I play games only if they have good combat.
I guess you also missed out on arcanum and planescape too.
I'm sorry

how do you dodge in place like that in Gothic 2? what the hell is that shit

>fake morrowind webm at the start of the game with shit skills/stats probably and no stamina left
Yawn. Why are you guys so desperate to shitpost about Morrowind.

Said no one ever

>steal ceramic dish
>swarmed by 3 grannys
>get stun-locked to death while being called a nigger
GOTY indeed

>stamina mechanic prevents you from just retard spamming
>player tires themselves out and gets knocked out
it's user error, not the system

even people who love morrowind don't say it has good combat you quintuple nigger

both are shit

now oblivion, now that was a fine combat simulator

When you look at Bethesda's games objectively and don't use the
>b-but they're massive open-world games!
excuse, they really are fucking dreadful on almost all levels.

>dodge in place
That's just block. You press S(back) when locked onto an enemy.
Did people seriously play with the garbage "new" G2 combat controls?

U press S u newfag

if you only played fallout 3 and games after.
sure

Their models, animations, textures, voice acting and sound design are all outright amateurish. They've always been visually and technically outdated for the times they were released, they can't even get working ladders or a crouch mode that actually decreases the size of your hitbox. The entire company is creatively stagnant because the only people who succeed there are Todd's butt buddies, the level of nepotism on display is sickening.

Saying their amateurish implies they're better than they are. I don't have many ancient game webms but I wish I had, because there are dozens of early 3D games that have better animation work than even their latest titles. Oblivion was missing diagonal running in 2005, Morrowind's jump (((animation))) is riduclously terrible, Fallout 4 still doesn't have logical melee weapon hitboxes only arbitrary ranges for attacks that propels a set length ahead of the character.

BGS can't even do normal fucking cutscenes in the modern day. I'll argue about their graphics saying that the games can look decent, but the animations and general coding(I don't even need to mention how buggy the games are) puts BGS at below an indie level unironically. They're only praised because nerds like to immerse themselves in these piles of shit. I seriously don't understand the appeal.

>Their models, animations, textures, voice acting and sound design are all outright amateurish

compared to?

That game and shadow of the collosas was drastically ahead of its time and could barely run on the consoles they launched on.

Ikr. You can't even do side attacks with the new G2 controls. Most people don't understand that those new controls are meant for pure mage characters.

anything

Both of the depicted characters are low level though you pleb.

Ew, get some taste will you?

Ico ran fine.
Here are some other older games that have better animation

Bethesda is truly terrible.

>the Oblivion VAs received their lines alphabetically
>not by scene
>not by character
>fucking alphabetically

>wants good combat
>plays rpg game

Considering it was a bunch of nerds who just wanted to make CRPGs, Daggerfall was damn impressive for its time.
Morrowind would have been better if they knew how to 3D. Unfortunately, they were late to the party and wanted to do it their own way so they'd have full control, while everyone else just used off-the-shelf stuff or honed in one very simple ideas in search of a gimmick to perfect. Can't blame Bethsoft for trying to make a huge open world modular fantasy game and falling a bit short, which is something that had never been done before in full 3D. Besides the failings, which are numerous, the construction kit alone is enough to sell the game to any nerd, nevermind the actual content and lore which is outstanding and still talked about around here.

Remind me what lore and modding tools Gothic or other games had. I'm sure it's all just as interesting.

What does having modding tools have to do with the game itself being good or shit? If anything adding the construction kit only displayed Shitfesda's mentality, according to which it was okay to release an unfinished turd, since there would be autists amongst the fans who'd finish the game for you free of charge.

So I finished the main questline in Morrowind along with most of the faction quests the other day and though that the lot of them varied from trash to mediocre, are the dlc's worth playing if i felt that way?

The add-ons are pretty good, you should try them. Tribunal adds a great city with lots of good quests and a much too big sewer, and Bloodmoon gives you a whole new island with a few very nice questlines and a mediocre main quest.

They released the tooling to show off that the world was "hand-crafted" and "everything was placed with a purpose".
Look at the title screen lettering. It's a draft that fills out into a complete product, but still has some frayed edges and remains on the table for further editing.

If they didn't go into the project knowing full well they'd be doing it "homemade style", then they have a hell of an art and design team who even managed to inspire Soule to compose his best work at that point.

No other game has the atmosphere of Morrowind before or since. The jank is there, and systems are half-baked, but it's all in service to a very well thought out body of content that a bunch of talented guys *wanted* to make, not that they were contractually obligated to shit out in service to their other interests. The quality is in what you read and explore, not how you do it, and that's why people still talk about it. The ideas are portable.

What isn't portable is "game feel". You're complaining about something nobody can care about if what they want in a game is something to remember.

All the TES combat are like the webm don't try to color the shit combat.

The combat is or facetank (if you aren't exploiting the game with stealth+ranged/stealth+illusion/stealth+destruction or Conjuration) or circle around the enemy while you bash the weapon like a retard.

Thank god mods like TK Dodge exist in Skyrim to make the combat no utterly shit.

Oh yeah i recall all those "homemade" copy pasted caves and dungeons with random spawning enemies.

You must be thinking of a different game.
Entities in interiors spawn when you enter them, not randomly.
Every cave in the game is different with varying levels of significance, but you can always find a nice touch that tells a story in the layout and what objects are present, if you care to look around. There are treasures and traps in thoughtful places in every location.

to be fair, their game was massively open in scope.

seeit's not an excuse and it doesn't even make their games good.

Said no one ever.
It's still a great game, unlike that German abortion.

but it does. there is so much detail and care put into the world that most will overlook the janky animations.

fanboys overlooking something doesn't make it good

Is there a more butthurt autist on Yea Forums than gothicfag? He's been doing this for literal years now with little to no rest. Even the obsidian autist (or whatever name he ended up getting) moved on or at least found something new to obsess over.

no game is flawless

>Gothic is an excellent game

It's a "Nigger who literally just made a fresh level one imperial or breton with lvl15 short blade (at maximum) drains all their fucking stamina and then uses a short blade to assault a character barely 30 meters from the character creation room so they can record """bad combat""" " episode.

tes3 doesn't have good combat. But why be disingenuous about it?

I never quite got complains about G1 controls. They are quite comfy if you play only on keyboard

gothic games are the shittiest yurojank trash to ever exist

NOW YOU DIE

Reading comprehension. Not every low level is the same in Morrowind.
Thanks for proving you didn't play any of those games.

Is this why the voice actors will change mid-dialogue? Holy fucking dog shit, what were they THINKING?

The simple fact that they actually had the balls to release the construction kit for the modding community is one of the reason Bethesda is still relevant in this day and age. High possibilities of customisation, however crazy, is the most precious aspect of videogaming.

How does posting two examples of shitty combat bolster your argument?

>first deplete stamina
>use weapon with no skill
>"haha look you can't hit shit"
Yea Forums is trolled EPIC STYLE Xd

>hold on.. let me try that one again
