I think tf2 is fine. I know it has a lot of retarded skins and hats but I just ignore most of it. I find myself just joining these 1v1 mtg maps or 24/7 highlands fast reapawn for a deatmatch.... I wish more people could play cp_steel, my favourite map, but aparantely it's too confusing for people to follow the signs...

So not only is it very rare for me to go there, it's also a coinflip to see if I'll get a real match or not.
I have to give it to either Randomizer or TF2ware. I can go into one of those servers and just stay all night.

I see these things as the absolute bare minimum required for tf2 to be playable again, it would still take work on top of that to make it truly great again, but these two things are absolutely required before anything else. The first because there is just no fucking excuse for how the game not only looks worse than it used to, but also manages to run worse at the same time. And the second because matchmaking has and always will be fucking cancer that only limits how you play, rather than expands it.

afaik healing counts as damage dealt for this purpose and it's infinitely easier to heal your team as medic than it is to deal damage with any other class since it's a constant thing
in that sense it does not scale the same

the damage scaling to percentage is the same. I would also argue that engineer has better scaling than medic.
Also you would be arguing that the medic can only crit based off his damage dealt, which means he needs to deal 400 normal damage before he gets a 50% chance to crit with a bone saw. So effectively you're removing melee crits from medic.
If you buy a single key, go to scrap.tf and trade those for any hats or weapons you want. Guns are 0.5 scrap while the average cosmetic is around 1 ref.

Well, it still works on 360! Even still gets exploit patches, just none of the named content patches. So no Pyro Update for airblast, no Sniper vs Spy so the Spy's backstab isn't instant, etc.

I would disagree. I would say it's from the drop-in, drop-out speed of the servers, not necessarily what they're running.
Before matchmaking, you could jump from a round of completely pure Dustbowl with no sprays or skins or anything, jump into a trade server with Minecraft shit, go over to a zombie server for a round, and then hop back into traditonal TF2 within the span of like fifteen minutes.
Now, matchmaking causes like 3-5 minute queue times for traditional stuff. All of the "custom servers" are still there, untouched. They're just not enough ALONE to revitalize the game, because they never left. It was the speed of casual, traditional TF2 that left.

valve are basically the retards of the gaming development world, they have tf2 a game that brings in 45k-60k at any given moment. and these numbers conveniently spike up to 80k+ when valve does literally anything to the game. But yet they insist that a core tf2 team of 2 people is acceptable. Now that tf2 has reached the age that it is and considering it's actual competition you could say for all intents and purposes tf2 is already in that renaissance era, it just comes down to whether valve can stop updating dota for 2 minutes actually really focus on their other money trees.
