dont go prot at all while leveling. You can tank everything 1-60 as arms or fury without a single point in prot. you only really go prot once you start doing raids (UBRS or above). Speccing into prot while leveling is just very painful and slows you down a lot.

For most guilds yes. Classes are limited to certain races so keep that in mind if you want to play a race or class you like. If you want to be a Paladin then you'll be either a Dwarf or Human. Shamans (Horde only) are Orc, Troll and Tauren. Some Alliance guilds will prioritize certain class/race combos like Dwarf Priests for their specific spells.

If you play DnD I think you'd enjoy Classic.

Blizzard already stated it doesn't matter if it's in guild. Hatespeech, racism, etc, is only bannable or enforced if it is in public /say or general. If you report someone if your guild for shit they say in guild, you will be told to /ignore that player or leave that guild.

Shamans are a bit more adaptable than paladins and have more tools to assist with various situations in dungeons or questing. Paladins don't have a slow, or an interrupt/taunt, or consistent ranged attacks, or a secondary threat totem, or a purge, or a fear/charm cleanse or flametongue/windfury totems, or far sight, or sentry totem, or grounding totem, being able to use multiple resistance totems, or allowing waterwalking or waterbreathing, etc. Paladins do have some support, but it's very limited and passive per moment and the rest is more in assisting in dps/offtank/heal. Shaman is more active and instantaneous and have totems for every situation. Not to mention that paladins need talents to get an aoe or a damage reduction buff, whereas shamans get them baseline with magma totem and stoneskin/windwall totem.

If you like tanking, yes. You'll never want for a group.

Yeah you can group with people and do quests together or dungeons if you have 5 people. You can't share mob kills if you're not grouped so it's always good to group up if there's someone questing near you.

Paladin has the most sustain of any healer. They have powerful defensive abilities. The most powerful ability in the game. They have very powerful long lasting buffs.

Support classes in WoW are usually healers. You have Priest, Shaman (Horde only), Paladin (Alliance only), and Druid. Each one has its own set of pros and cons.

Basically just quickly list the classes in order of generally most desired to least desired for groups

Classic is separate from the regular game, and isn't beholden to its expansion cycle. Nobody knows what happens in two years when Classic has run its course.

At the bare minimum it'll take like a year to go through all 6 phases they have planned. And its totally separate from retail so the next shitty expansion blizzard releases won't affect it.

I'd say shaman is more of a varied support, whereas paladins are more about defensive support. Not necessarily better than the other.
Don't forget about druids. Druids are also a support class that are better at doing what they're focusing on than the other support classes (dps/tank/heal), but have a harder switching between each of those roles than the other support classes because changing animal form to suit the role costs a lot of mana. They also offer unique support that the shamans and paladins don't offer. Paladins and shamans are kinda the opposite counterparts of each other in term of support and role, shamans being more offensive and paladins being more defensive. Druids are entirely their own thing in regards to support abilities.

Shaman is Orc or Tauren, Paladin is Human or Dwarf

Shamans are good at group healing, Paladins are good as single target healing. Both are relegated to healing/support roles in raid content.
Shamans are generally better in PvP, but Paladins aren't pushovers, especially in group PvP.

I wouldn't say either is better than the other. They both do very different things and fill their own niches. Paladin more if you want to be a great single target healer, while also managing many different short term buffs on your party. Shaman if you want to be a great multi-target healer while using different totems to help your group as needed.

As for classes it's a toss up between druid paladin or warlock. Warlock is most appealing but it looks like EVERYONE will be a warlock. At least as a paladin or druid I can leech kills by partying and there won't be any level 60s about for a while.

I highly doubt you'll have any problem getting into a group as a healing pala or shaman. DPS is what the problem lies as the game is filled with DPS so finding a group with free slots can be sometimes challenging.

You have powerful buffs
You have a stun you will be casting on enemies who are close enough.

It's also crazy more mana efficient. So your sustain is crazy. Your defense is crazy because of the shield primarily.

On top of all that you have bubble. The single strongest ability in the entire game.

Priest you will heal in raids unless you are the lucky guy that gets to do Shadow Weaving for the Warlocks. Priest's are fragile in PvP because they wear cloth, and can be trucked by melee classes. You will not have much trouble staying alive in PvE content, since you have a shield, a heal-over-time spell, and multiple different heals to keep you and your group alive. They have tools to mitigate this weakness, and their DPS spec is a top tier PvP spec because of the added durability, control, and damage you can do with it. Like the other DPS specs for the other support classes, Shadow has mana issues so it's not nearly as useful in raid content where they cannot sustain their damage over an entire fight without running out of mana.

Paladin's are great at healing single targets, so they will be healing the tanks in raid. You are very tanky since you wear plate, have the strongest defensive cooldowns and in fact the most powerful cooldown PERIOD in the game. Your buffs are extremely powerful so you are always welcome in a group as a healer. You can tank 5 man dungeons very effectively. Your DPS spec is not useable in raids but is decent in PvP. You will have to be on your toes less when you're out in the world as a Paladin because you can always run away by using your bubble and teleporting back to the inn.

In all honesty unless you are a tank if you get jumped you'll eat shit regardless of being in cloth or plate. Though Paladins are slower to kill. And can bubble hearth.

Priests are all about being the healing Jack of all trades and also a master of them. They have an answer to all healing solutions. Paladins can only single target heal but are fucking amazing at that.

When it comes to utility outside of heals priests have some good buffs but Paladins have way more. They can also reduce threat on your DPS meaning they can actually DPS and not just stand there fingering their asshole. As powerful and numerous as buffs are for Paladins though they last no time at all and reapplying them constantly is a pain.

Outside of healing both will struggle to get slots from a minimax perspective. But there are 40 slots in a raid and even a shit spec is better than nothing. Shadow priest undeniably has better and more involved DPS than paladin. In 5 man dungeons Paladins can tank or heal fine (and can tank in the heal spec because consecrate is awesome). Lots of people are huge bitches about having to tank so the option is nice to have.

Both are horrible to face in PvP. Paladins are demoralising to fight because they won't fucking die. But they can tickle you to death.

Priests will mind control you off a cliff in just the right spot that it'll take an hour to retrieve your corpse. On flat ground they are still terrifying monsters but only need a couple good hits to put down.

Both, you have world pvp that you can do solo or in groups, and you have battlegrounds with different objectives, one that's a large scale 40v40 where you have to storm each other's base, and you also have an open arena in Stranglethorn and 1v1 duels

40 man raids are once per week, with Onyxia being every 5 days, 20 man raids are every 2 or 3 days I believe? The 10 man raid UBRS can be redone anytime. Apparently for Classic you'll also be able to take 10 people to the dungeons that are lower than lvl 50 which are intended for 5 people, but you won't be able to complete the group quests.

There's no transmog or coloring so you'll have to wear pieces based on their stats.

In general it takes around 240 hours to get to lvl 60, so take that how you will.

You can roll I think 10 characters per realm up to 50 characters total? Also paladins are fucking slow for leveling, more than 240 hours.

There is no hybrid tax. Every class has a specific role to play in every raid. If all classes and specs were equal in all roles the game just becomes retail.

Extremely high demand if you go holy or want to tank 5 man dungeons. Everyone will want to queue with you for BG, and in wpvp you are powerful in

PvP happens solo or group, depends on how often you roam around solo really.

Raid dungeons reset each week, but there are multiple raid dungeons to do once we get to the later phases of release. Most guilds will schedule raids for 2-3 nights a week.

Armor appearance is not customizable. You can hide your cloak/helmet from appearing but that's about it. Each item has it's own fixed model/texture. There are item sets that match although often they are not the absolute best in terms of stats.

Most most people it takes around 2-4 weeks of in-game time to reach max level.

You might want to check out faction/class/profession/etc. guides. There are some useful videos on youtube.

You can roll I think up to 10 characters per server. If it's a PvP server you cannot have characters on both factions. Paladins are not fast levelers, but the ability to self heal makes them faster than warriors. Plus you get a free mount at 40.

Yes, plenty of classic players are happy to help out during quests/dungeons etc. Don't be afraid to ask for help or ask about items/gear/consumables etc.

PvP on a PvP server can happen at any time, with any number of players, anywhere in the world. There are no instanced battlegrounds yet, so there will be PvP EVERYWHERE. Solo. Small group. Large group. Server crashing raids on cities.

Raids are on a lockout system What that means is that once you kill the first boss of that raid, you are "locked" into that instance for the week. This means that you cannot join another raid group for that week. After the weekly reset (every tuesday) your lockout ends and you can raid with any other group again.

You cannot personalize your armor unless you wear the specific pieces that you want for aesthetic purposes. Since loot is very powerful and comes very slowly in Classic, you will likely look fairly unique at all times. It will be uncommon, for example, to walk into Stormwind and see 100 Paladins all wearing full Tier 2. This is because gear comes in at a trickle in classic and it takes a very long time for ANYBODY to get their full best in slot gear.

It's going to take you a long time to get to 60. I don't know the numbers on playtime but expect it to take a few months to hit level 60 if it's your first time. Try to enjoy the journey to 60 and don't worry so much about getting to cap and doing endgame content. The content will still be there in 3 months, and you will still get to do it. Content never really becomes obsolete in Classic.

Here's an inside secret: no one knows what they're doing. The overwhelming majority of people playing Classic are people who have never played vanilla or even vanilla private servers, but will act like they did.

People are generally pretty friendly and welcoming, the main thing is just to pay attention and make an effort to learn the ins and outs of your class. Don't be afraid to ask questions, everybody was new at some point.

Yeah, Paladins are god tier healers in PvP. You take damage well. Blessing of Sacrifice, Freedom, and Protection are all awesome utility, and you've got damn strong single target healing.
In PvP, healers are always in demand.
In PvE, paladins are pretty good too because of their blessings, but if there's more than 4 in one raid you've got all the blessings covered and they lose value.

Depends on the content that you're doing, you can always toy around with gear but there's always going to be best-in-slot or near-best-in-slot pieces for every situation.

Dungeons usually start at lvl 15-20 which is what, 8-10 hours? Even then, you'll probably want to group up for some quests even at lvl 6, which is like 1-2 hours from the start.

A tip from an old Paladin main.
Level Ret only as far as it takes to get the 8% move speed buff, movement speed is always your number 1 stat in levelling because of how much fucking walking you do. After that spec into holy. Why? Because honestly Ret gives few real DPS gains, you can judge a bit faster and harder and have a 2h damage buff.

Or you can go holy and get 10% strength and int which does basically the same thing. You can also pick up consecrate which is awesome for tanking (and dungeon xp is the fastest xp so any way to get a group faster is valuable).

To heal 5 mans just bring a stack of drinks, you can swap to cloth too but it's not really needed. You can still auto stack stuff. To tank equip a shield and press consecrate while spreading auto attacks among the pack. Your hardest part is having no ability to pull from range.

The game isn't complicated. Bring a bunch of podcasts and audio books to listen to as you level, it's the most important thing to maintaining your sanity.

Not that you'd have the choice anyway, because each boss drops like 3 pieces of gear for 40 people each week.

If you want to go tryhard, go Troll. Their berserking ability generates the most aggro out of every horde race. BiS tank weapons aren't axes so orc's racial is useless.
Tauren's racials are pretty cool though. The stamina boost is small but can help in those clutch moments (if they ever happen) and their stomp ability is cool for crowd controlling and PvP. Neither of these two should be helpful (maybe a tiny bit) in actual raiding though, but certainly helpful in instances.

Dwarf is pretty fucking strong in pvp due to stoneform. A lot of sets look pretty goofy on them though.

you only level up your first character once. relish it. WoW when it came out was pretty unique in that leveling was enjoyable and varied, felt like a real progression and adventure. the raiding, pvp and dungeons were just a bonus.

You can try it if you want. If you've never played an MMO you might not enjoy it. It's a large time investment.

The game is good at teaching you how to play it merely by playing it. If you're at least vaguely sentient and you level your own character instead of buying one from China, you will be competent enough.
Here are some tips:
Put all your abilities on your keys or bars somewhere. You have easy access to QWERTYASDFGHZXCVB12356, with Shift, Alt, and Ctrl modifiers, though a lot of those will be used for movement interface and targeting.
Autoattack and Ranged autoattack are abilities too. If you have a pet (Warlock / Hunter), then your pet also has abilities. A poorly controlled pet will hurt more than it helps.

The best single tip for WoW is to properly stop and set up hotkeys for every single ability.

Never ever click an ability that is used in combat while leveling.

Hotkey all of your mouse buttons to abilities you use the most.

If you actually properly set up your hotkeys while leveling and never ever click on an ability you will be completely fine at classic.

paladins are actually the reason alliance is slightly stronger than horde in large scale PvP, having bubble for themselves, BOP and BOF for someone else is a complete gamechanger, being able to heal like a beast while being almost immortal yourself is ridiculously strong.
Speaking of horde racials being strong, only orc passive is really worth anything, and its RNG based so its unreliable, compared to something like escape artist and fear ward I don't even know why people thing horde has better racials overall.

I have never enjoyed druid however my reason for disliking them is why most liked them. You are 3 bootleg versions of other classes taped to a decent healer. Cat will never be as fun or as good as rogue, bear will never be as good or fun as warrior. Balance will never be as good or fun as mage. But you can get a taste of the playstyle for way less time invested than levelling 4 classes to cap.

Hunter is fine but gets outclassed by mages and later warlocks because they don't scale as well. Most people just pick warlock because they're also a ranged pet class that can solo well but they only get better.

Hunters have a shit rep because everyone knows they are easy to level and have a higher than average proportion of shitters for it. In pve they start strong but have shit scaling so they'll get weaker in later tiers, however you still want a few for kiting and tranq shot. In PvP they can be scary for anyone who can't pin them down in their dead zone.

Most people interested will probably be playing. But if you still want to stream the journey go ahead. You might get a few viewers. Take lots of screenshots too, it's fun to look back on the dumb bullshit you encounter later on.

An incompetent hunter is very different from a competent one.
Incompetent ones don't bother finding new abilities for their pet, and their pet tends to either sit there doing nothing or run around pulling adds. Incompetent hunters can't kite because they haven't keybound their abilities and you can't click buttons and move the camera at the same time.
Competent hunters will have their pet go fetch a ranged attacker and lead it to a killzone, while kiting one guy, and focusing dps on a different guy.

PvP server is really the best way to play the game. You will find higher quality players on PvP servers because leveling from 1-60 with enemy player encounters teaches you your class on an entirely different level than just fighting world mobs. You will always have people around your level doing shit. Everyone will be playing the game at their own pace so don't try to rush it. Talk to other players. Make friends. Social connections go a long way in Classic.

If you're in a mid-tier guild as DPS, you won't need a pure raidspec, and can probably DPS in your PvP spec - though you'll be subpar because Mortal Strike will knock off an actually useful debuff so you can't use it in raids.
Tanks and top tier guilds don't get to fuck around. You'll farm that 100g and be happy to do it.
Though, why not level two characters? You can do that.

no, the game client is Legion (7.x) with 1.12 assets shoved in. 1.12 addons need to be remade specifically for classic.
