Um, sweetie, it doesn't. Every part of the Midgar portion occurs at the lower level. Only the attack on Shina HQ and and chase out of the city occur on the 2nd level. Barrett literally explains it at the start of the game how there's a lower level and a second level.

Take into consideration that they have not 1, but 8 reactors constantly spewing fumes into the air and how 1 was able to affect multiple towns and polute them. Besides, both in Crisis Core and Advent Children (Dont know if in anywhere else in the compilation) when they show Midgard, the sky is dark with pollution.

Final Fantasy VII never establishes there's pollution in the same sense that it exists in the real world, like CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions. It's more like, they are draining the lifeblood of the planet, so the region around midgard is all arid and dry of vegetation. Junon and Nibelheim both have Mako reactors and they have ordinary sunlight like any other place, draining mako does not stop the sun or cloud the air.

The OP is trying to stir up shit using an in-game ad for Shinra/Midgar trying to get people to come and live there, but you're also retarded because the game did not take place entirely at night - Midgar is built on top of itself, and most of the areas you visit in it are underneath suspended plates that have been built to support residential areas for the priviliged and wealthy. The working class and poor live with a roof covering up the sun, as well as the constant smog and pollution from the Mako reactors.

That said it's pretty late to start complaining about it when we had Advent Children Midgar which looked absolutely nothing like Midgar and also had lots of clear sunlight, though you could claim that things got a lot better with pollution from the Mako reactors clearing up/the general effect Holy had on the entire planet's well-being.

There was an (Albeit Sleight) implication of that considering guys like Barret, Marlene, and by extension Tifa come from pretty poor ass towns. Not to mention that the opening areas after the bombing mission you had shanty towns made of scrap metal and hovels made of sewer pipes in some areas.

EVEN THEN, there were a few places that sunlight actually reached, namely the church, and Aerith's home. Or it certainly looked that way.

If I recalled correctly, right before the party decends from the highway to the ground at this spot, you can clearly see the sun is rising over the horizon. The entire section of the Midgar arc took place at night. That's it.

Yup. I downloaded the 1080p Director's Cut just recently. Fucking hell the graphics looks dated. Never watched it again and straight deleted it since it takes a lot of my HDD space. Everything looks really washed up, blurry. Don't know why, maybe texturing or lighting back then wasn't really good. AC looks closer to how XIII’s cutscenes look. Kingsglaives looks far, far better. If only the action sequence was shot a lot better, and the story doesn't suck balls.

Advent Children looked fucking terrible even back when it came out.

I may be the only one. But I'm actually excited to see how SquareEnix will tackle the second part. Will they go modern open world/sandbox? Will they make it ala FFXII but much bigger areas. Then if they make it so, how will they integrate the buggy, chocobos, the tiny broncos and the eventual Highwind for later parts. Either way, SquareEnix have to be smart about this. Either way they have to compramise on something. And now you know why they are still undecided on how they'll make the later parts.

Midgar just follows that cyberpunk rule that it's always night in the city. Same thing happens in OPerfect Dark, the cities are dark and oppresive then the next level is some sunny tuscan villa.

I thought midgar was incredibly polluted and the buildings were so tall that the people living at the bottom are basically always in shadow.

It'll probably have dozens of miscellaneous missions for Avalanche that were just assumed to happen in the original. Like when Tifa had that keycard for train security, in the remake they'll make you steal it in a 30 minute long quest before the actual plot happens.
