Blur was unironically a fantastic game, it was the only time I think they did a kart racer with a more serious style without going full on scifi like Extreme G, Rollcage and Wipeout etc. did. Split Second was a neat concept but Motorstorm basically did the exact same thing better, especially Apocalypse.

It was team-based racing with Ults, plus some game modes that really didn't work well with racing. Also didn't help that it was developed by Codemasters (with a bunch of former Evolution Studio members) who most people expect to make more realistic games, or that it was published by the jews at Deep Silver.
I had the chance to play it at a convention, and yes, it was pretty garbage. It was like Blur if Blur had been made last year and was also trying to be Overwatch.

It was flawed but driving to areas before you unlocked them and still had the slow vehicles so it took even longer were the best part. Climbing that big mountain long before you were supposed to was a blast and if you got separated from your friends it was extremely hard to find them again because the party system didn't show player location beyond maybe a mile.

Yeah, I hopped on one day just to drive from the starting area in the top left of the map to Rainer Peak and it took almost 2 hours because I kept falling down. There are quite a few cool landmarks in the game, like the volcano.
It's honestly quite a chill game, but I was never able to beat it. I managed to get to Redrock Bluffs before quitting. Not bad for £6.99 from the Morrison's game bargain bin.

Something weird about Blur I could never wrap my head around. The game played great and looked good but the idea of racing a BMW M3 or whatever and firing missiles at Corvette was just dumb. I could never really get into it.

I was on S/S's side back in the day, but i learned to appreciate Blur better after playing Sanic All-Stars Racing Transformed (since a lot of the mechanics from Blur ended up being part of that game)

I remember playing the beta of Blur and it was pretty fun except I didn't like how people could grind the wall around turns and not lose any speed. I don't know if they ever changed that for the release though.
