I'd recommend Warlock for Health and Soulstones, its basically an honorary healer without being a healslut and it would compliment your friends' classes really well.

why would you not want a pocket healer. if youre alliance, paladin is a invaluable healer. if youre playing horde, priest is the best healer. very solid class in general. shaman is fun too but all the totem tricks will probably be a bit much for her first class. mage is a also a straight forward class that is both fun and very stronk.

It will be great to be playing a version of WoW that is not about rotations, which is what World of Raidcraft was. In Vanilla, raiding was a miniscule part of the whole tacked on towards the end of development. For most of the content, every class had a diverse range of abilities which got used and the reason why it was different in the raids was because Everquest's model of raiding and class roles for raiding is anti-fun.

Mage has some really fun utility while leveling like your food/drink summoning. You're also fantastic at leveling since you do good damage and have the best AoE options later on.

it isn't as bad as they make it. There are these revolutionary things called flightpoints and mounts. Some classes even have travel skills! Also hearthstone and death can save some travel time. People just make a big deal out of a few of the bigger areas, i.e. barrens and that one other zone that is a fucking disaster, very long travel.

here are my recommendations
install at least a professionxitem type mod that lets you know whats sellable to other players or just to vendor (usually grey shit)

take skinning and tailoring as my recommendation, otherwise you will be fighting everyone for nodes. Skinning is self killed beasts, tailoring only needs cloth drops from humanoid enemies.

That's because raiding was never meant to be in the game but Pardo and Kaplan really wanted it. It was rushed and the design of it lifted straight from their favourite MMO, Everquest. It conflicted heavily with the rest of WoW, so they went on to change WoW to suit raiding rather than come up with a way to making raiding suit WoW. Most people though did not ever want to raid and the content most people did got neglected by the devs.

Generally speaking professions start as money sinks and become money trees over time, with some making you a lot more money (enchanting) than others (mining) but depending on what you play it may be worth doing certain combos regardless of the money like mining/smiting for warriors to get armor.

You can also make money reaching higher levels and doing dungeons, both from drops and selling gear.

Warlocks have fucking Imps, Succubus, Void Walkers, Felhunters and the Infernals they can summon. They all look great and they all do very different things. They're far more versatile than hunter pets.

Not him but long term enchanting is the probably the best money maker, but that is because it requires more time investment than any other profession. Also requires you to either party up or play with friends to access some important progression in it.

Once you get high enough level and good recipes you're basically always in demand for enchanting everyone's everything and can gouge their eyes out with your margins because barely anyone bothers to actually level it all the way.

what it is in later expansions is what it was in classic. Every profession has a fairly decent money maker hiding in it, but usually needs a heavy investment of time to use it. If you take any profession that needs a gathering tool you will probably run into significant arguments and delays to getting to 60. Also if you focus on getting to 60 rather than burning cash on professions you should be able to get your mounts faster, which is the number 1 tool in making profession money. Gathering nodes with 30 or 40% speed will kill your efficiency so you will want the 100% mount sooner rather than later. I am pretty confident that most players will take a gathering profession over the simpler ones so it will be time consuming to compete for herbs or minerals.

it will probably need a few hours before you start seeing people put stuff on the AH, due to the cost of needing to put the listing price on there. If people are speed leveling, their pace will outpace the listing price on their funds available quickly...unless they are pooling funds to streamers. That system is a little different.

i played BC and did a fury warrior, and i wanted to pull my fucking teeth out leveling in hillsbrad fighting spiders and having to bandage and eat every fucking pull. i spent a lot of time trying to get into dungeons, or asking guildies to carry me through them. leveling was fucking awful. i got to level 50 something, shelved it, then came back in wrath, got him to 55, rolled DK and never looked back.
i've been tanking mythic progression for the last two expansions, and warrior is basically the only choice you have to do that unfortunately, so i'm going warrior because i like tanking. however, i've got a guild with some buddies to do runs with and shit, and i'd suggest you see if you can make that happen quickly. it's going to be very gay to gear yourself solo, but if you've got a group of dudes to help you run places, and also funneling gear to you, i figure it's not so bad.

mage is far better than warlock in classic, pvp could be argued but a mage has free water and food and portals to sell. Warlock is more micromanagement but can usually guarantee at least one person dies

I don't think Retail will suffer in the long-run. If Blizzard has any sense though, they will be looking very carefully at why there is so much interest in Classic whether it's a huge success or not. If it is a success though, that will focus them some more. They have not been above drastically changing things in expansions and would need to do so again if they want to incorporate aspects of Classic into Retail. Some of it would be impossible though: it's very easy to give people easy-queue and easy-instancing, but try taking it away after it's been there years.

The best thing that could happen to Retail is if the focus on raiding, that has dominated practically every expansion, gets completely dropped. The nudging towards raiding and players being conditioned for it should also be removed. Vanilla didn't have it and Classic won't.

Since you're playing with friends it wont matter, you will be the bottom of DPS of your party though by quite a long shot.

DPS Paladin doesnt make any sense, you're a healer and a tank, if you want DPS with big swords and hammers you should be warrior.

I wouldn't mind if they made expansions for classic but 100% in the spirit of classic. Fast paced pvp, high damage, healing not as strong/run OOM fast, less tankyness...and obviously improve the raids a bit. I'd be happy with that, but it would probably ruin world pvp because it'll spread everything out too much like TBC did.

Why would you roll paladin to play DPS?
That being said, you can do fine in 5 man content as any of the hybrid DPS specs (as mana is not an issue when you can drink), but you have no place in a raid whatsoever.
You can also attempt PvP as ret or shockadin, but you'll need gear from raids to do so.

i'm this guy and i know a thing or 2 about wow gold
you need about 50k, and then you can play the AH hard and then just log in to open mail and relist. i stopped playing before the second raid released in BFA, but cooking was still reasonably profitable when i was playing. as in, if you had the 3 star recipes or whatever, and bought mats when cheap, you could sell food in 20 stacks and make say 5g per item.

once you have enough capital, watch the price of mats and consumables (just pick a few. ore, cloth, herbs, flasks, fish) for a week and see how they move. buy them when cheap, sell them when expensive. that's all you do. 1g profit is not much when you're selling 10, but if you're selling a thousand, it's pretty good.

i find that the buttons on the g502 i actually use. like, i use the DPI buttons occasionally when moving between games, and i bound the thumb buttons to mute/push to talk. if you're mouse moving in wow, you'd be doing nothing with your left hand if you cast with your thumb also.

I'd go further and say 13: the rot started with The Burning Crusade. I know there's people that thought it was an improvement, as was WoTLK. They were improvements in regards to accessibility to raids and the design of raids themselves. They were disasterous in terms of the potential WoW had as an MMO that was about more than raiding.
A lot of us want something we call 'Classic+', but different people will have different ideas on what that means, only agreeing that it should be 'in the spirit of classic' as you say, which was lost when TBC came along. World-PvP can be helped by borrowing from Planetside 2: objectives that are meaningful and everyone knows the window in which they can be done. Blizz did somewhat try with world-PvP objectives, but they put them out in nowhere and they had no meaningful impact or purpose, because giving them that would interfere with people that wanted nothing to do with it. Shame they never applied the same logic to the influence raiding had on the game, which they only ever reinforced.

No one is going to care about +10 healing vs 20 stamina on their gear for raids on a pvp server unless it's tight progression, which is going to be extremely rare.

The BIS lists for raids are meaningless and just guidelines. You don't actually need that gear you know. Not to mention other builds exist like set bonus combos.

Shaman has no hard cc, is honestly such a shit class until you get decked out in full BWL gear when you can actually burst people before they just cc you or heal or kill you without having any way of stopping them, besides maybe warstomp or engineering crap.

No taunt, so less appealing as a tank. Not as easy as warrior or rogue for melee dps. Healing generally required using cloth gear due to poor itemization, but was otherwise solid.

The class had significant limitations in vanilla, which made it require skill and compromise to excel. So of course the average pug pally isn't going to know how to play it well, and the average pug teammates aren't going to want to bother learning how to adjust (lol I dps hard, threat your problem, why you not hold aggro noob pally?!?111). So they're usually just more trouble than they're worth.

holy-ret build has you killing shit pretty fast. H pally is a tier 2 leveler. But you won't get those speedy kills until level 32. Also, h pally is the best with AOE grinding.

My original plan was to make a main hunter and then use the gold to eventually pimp out a rogue/warrior alt and actually enjoy that leveling experience.

Don't mind pets terribly unless they still feel shitty in classic as was reported in the beta.

Paladin is not designed to be a damage dealer in raids. Mana issues prevent the class from dealing sustained damage.
It's not a matter of being suboptimal, it's a matter of being unfit entirely.
You're more than welcome to play ret or prot in 5 mans with your friends, but keep in mind that you'll need to put on the dress if you want to raid.
Also keep in mind that no-one is going to prioritize items like Hand of Justice to a paladin over a warrior ever.
That being said, once you're decked out in your current tier's gear, you can fuck around as ret or shockadin in PvP to your hearts content and perform decently well. Premades will likely want you as dedicated holy support rather than shockadin, however.

I mean 20 of the raid slots pre-AQ40 are just filler who are expected to stand around and be carried so you aren't hurting anyone by showing up.
