I'm trying to make myself impressive enough, but I find these people just don't exist.

It's just weird because she's only comically evil outside of her route, and her route is the one that still seems closest to her core character shown in any intimate moment with her or her supports.

I know it's spelled out in the lyrics of the game's theme song that Byleth helps her stay in the light but they didn't need to force her being evil so hard outside of her route.

When you have 3 choices of house and even by choosing her house you still have a choice that might lead you into conflict with her that means even though the Black Eagles are the most popular first choice the majority of players still end up getting some version of character assassination for her.

It's no wonder so many hate her in light of that, but they should have let her be more grey in the other routes.

I've beat the BL route and am about 3/4ths the way through the GD and curious, do the character motivations for the Black Eagle students actually differ on the BE route? Basically all of them are. Recruiting the BE cast on other routes is interesting since their reason fro deflecting from the empire all make more sense. On BE he does just the opposite and works with his father, a unquestionably corrupt figure, almost entirely in mind.

Edelgard is literally getting rid of the nobility, anyone who isn't a noble should already be on her side.

Dorothea should be self explanatory as the only commoner in the Black Eagle House.

Ferdinand knows his father is an immoral man and is conflicted but still thinks he should be there to advise Edelgard, he also grows less attached to the idea of nobility over his supports with Edelgard and even floats the idea of free education for all.

Bernadetta's father is a monster who tied her to a chair, and ruined her life by obsessing over marrying her off, she shouldn't be worried about him and has good reason to reject the nobility and crests.

Lindhart and Caspar's parents are both fighting for the Empire, Lindhart is still primarily interested in researching crests which he thinks will be even more valuable in light of Edelgard's goals, Caspar's dumb shounen protagonist qualities don't conflict with shattering the control of the church and the nobility over the people.

Petra likes Edelgard who has treated her well since she came to Fodlan and wants to make Brigid an invaluable ally to the Empire.

Both Professors are Imperial subjects and Hanneman despite his enjoyment of crest research sympathises with dismantling the nobility.

The game seems to do a decent job of giving people reasons to support whoever they end up with for the most part, enough to convince you to think the Black Eagles students wouldn't stick with their house leader.

As for Crests issue, Sylvain points out Crests within the bloodlines are dying out. Hanneman creates magical tools that activate similar to relics without requiring Crests, bridging the gap of those have Crests and those who are Crestless, while Claude and Dimitri's endings result in improving foreign relations, which deters invaders and the need for Crests and relics. In Dimitri's ending, a constitutional monarchy is implied, which means the commoners have a say in political affairs and oppose any bias, unfair treatment between the classes.

Finally, there's the Church. Rhea was already planning to step down. And Byleth is literally the incarnation/Vessel of Sothis. Edelgard is wrong in this regard. The Church is right, Byleth fulfilled the prophecy in the GD ending by obtaining the relic sword, demonstrating he/she is the real deal. And she/he performs miracles to demonstrate her/his divinity. Edelgard is a flat earth Atheist in a world where magic, dragons, and divine goddess dragons and their holy prophet-vessels exist. Sothis does answer prayers. Byleth is proof of it.

Make sure you use battles to get a few people to level 10, throw at least one of them on a horse, chain gambits for the first 20 damage, and then end it with a steel lance+ knightkneeler on a high STR unit like edelgard or Byleth's crest weapon skill for the ~25 that remains. Some RNG required for the knightkneeler to land while he's on the 40 avoid space.

By the time you get him in the Flayn Rescue encounter you shouldn't really even need a strategy, because you'll have multiple crest weapons and you should be able to tank him.

More indoor maps would be nice. Nu-FE games lack a lot of the asshole castle with some thief running around stealing loot and hallways being pelted by siege tomes before reaching some asshole with 100Avo on a throne

Fates to Awakening is the single biggest glow up of any game series between two entries.

The only way she could ever seem correct is if you only play her route without any of the others.

Even before you get to decide, Edelgard is indirectly responsible for her killing Byleth's father, has tried to kill Byleth and the students, during her pilfering of the Holy Tomb, and even tried to kill her fellow lords via assassination. And that's not accounting for the crimes where's she's fully complicit with TWSITD when they massacred a village, experimented on imperial citizens to create more beats, and the other cruel crimes they're guilty of in the game. It's pretty difficult to side with her, even if you agree with her criticisms of Fódlan.
