Remnant: From the Ashes

Has anybody here played this game? Is it any good?
I love Dark Souls to death and need my fucking fix

Your not gonna have much talk about the game now that it's first week sales are through.
Shills are now off duty.

I just want some fucking opinions from people who played it
I keep getting ads for this shit everywhere and it sparked my interest

There is no penalty for dying. Combat is enjoyable.

I've seen people playing it in co-op and it looks really fun. Seems far more enjoyable than single player.
However given the monster designs and the environment, I'm sure I'd like this game if I got it

I was wondering where the hourly shill thread was!

Heard from a friend it's souls with guns + swords, random loot, and random generated boss sequences

Hey it is fun, should be cheaper.

basic combat is fun but is much more like re4 or re2remake or dead space than dark souls. its like a 3rd person resident evil with dodge roll and dark souls inspired bosses. the combat works though and there is enough enemy variety to keep it interesting for a while. map design is nothing special, since its procedurally generated, but the game does reward exploring and optional content with good items and bosses. story, characters, art design, general aesthetic are all much worse than dark souls

quick rundown
>everything they borrowed from souls is super lazily done and shitty
>progression is nearly pointless because mobs are scaling to your higher + on weapon/armor
>traits aka the only RPG part of this game give you very little advantage (like 1.3 more damage)
>loot system is garbage because regular mobs never drop anything apart from gold/mats
>it's boring

not that far into it, the game feel like a mix between a roguelike and a darksoul game, kinda like the chalice dungeon in bloodborne but without the main story. Overall it's decent but nowhere near the level of dark soul, bland enviroment without exploration, normal enemy that attack in swarm to offset your guns, bosses with infinite respawning adds and pityful attacks. The game feels like the devs just put toghether 2 popular genres withoittup tung in any care for finer details, if they cut the rng levels and put more care into enemies and levels it could be a great game instead of decent one.

You know that Dark Souls comes from the same heritage from games that were basically 3D real time roguelikes like Baroque and Kings Field right? You're basically describing the kind of game that Dark Souls came from, not Dark Souls itself. Faggot.

>guns + swords, random loot, and random generated boss sequences

So nothing like a Souls game.

You dodge roll and you shoot shit, more accurately

>mob scaling

whew lad thanks for saving me from this shit

3rd person shooter + dark souls progression structure and inventory + diablo-ish enemy randomization + dark souls boss arenas

the game is 'ok'.

It's like Darksiders in that there's literally nothing original, but hopefully the mix works for you. The first world legitimately looks like recycled Darksiders 1 assets, and the 2nd world looks like a recycled Darksiders 3 subway world.

It's great, some people said it feels clunky but I think it feels really good, weapons are meaty and mobs actually stagger, level design is kinda uninspired but the slow methodical Souls-like gameplay is almost intact, at least when you're playing solo.

Ive been playing with 2 friends for about 30 hours and we're all having a blast. If you got friends to play with you its great, if you dont its average

So Gears of War. Got it.

the fundamentals are taken directly from souls but not the balance, you roll is overpowered since you don't have to commit to any animation when firing, while the stamina system is worthless sincemelee doesn't consume any

Whoops sorry. I was shilling for another company but I can put in a few more dollarydoos here. It's great fellow gamer. I recommend you buy it RIGHT NOW

>bad exploration/level design
well, that kills it, I guess
>talking about video games on a video game board is shilling LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL xXxXDDXD
i fucking hate you so fucking much holy fucking shit go fucking die in a fucking hole already you gigantic fucking gay nigger faggot FUCK

>well, that kills it, I guess
i don't knows if later it becomes better but all the levels i played are pretty much corridors with sometimes explorables buildings on the side. I think this was because of the random generation of the level design, also you see the same "blocks" multiple times during the campaign

Shut the fuck up about Dark Souls, you fucking shill

Didn't read/watch anything about this game, so I went in blind. I was really hoping for a Hellgate: London vibe, but got this instead. It was fun for a little bit, but I don't feel like anything I do in the game matters, and the upgrades are pretty pointless right now. We'll see if it changes later on in game, but for now, I'm not enjoying it as much as I was in the beginning.

Imagine Souls but developed by rejects from the gears of war team and the only thing they understood about souls was that it's difficult.

Does MP make you fight bosses that aren't on the Solo campaign? I was already on the desert area, but decided to play some MP and we fought a fire boss that would throw fireballs at you and light his minions on fire. I didn't fight that guy on Solo. Did I just somehow miss it?

yuck, thanks for the heads up

random bosses

what bosses you get in some parts of the game is random, so you cannot actually fight all the bosses on one playthrough

>basic combat is fun but is much more like re4 or re2remake or dead space than dark souls
i think that the game could have been great if they have did a re4/dead space clone instead of copying some dark souls mechanics and slapping in procedurally generated levels. It could have been perfect to fill the hole left by dead space since EA killed it with 3

It was okay, but I wouldn't spend $40 on it like I did. Also, cliffhanger endings are super gay, even with free "true ending" DLC planned.

OH NO NO NO NO

Attached: Remnant Shit.png (1080x2340, 335K)

I've been playing with a friend and we are having fun. Saying that though some of this shit looks like it would annoying as hell if you played solo.

Mostly the bug world.

looks like a somehow more soulless Let it Die

Shitty exploration is a gigantic interest killer. What about that "Ashen" shit? Definitely not a fan of the artstyle, but I could stomach it if everything else is good
not typing all that garbage again, refer to and slit your fucking wrists

oh god, what a fucking disaster that game was
what were they thinking

beat it in 10 hours, some of the boses are fun, music is forgettable, game got old immediatley after I beat it.

Ashen killed itself by being one of the first ones to take the Epic money without having an following that would still get it.

Should be coming to steam in like Nov though.

If you liked Souls because coop and muh builds then maybe but if you liked souls for exploring actually designed levels and fighting satisfying bosses then stay the fuck away.

i agree, though i do think the addition of the dodge roll is good, since it allows for faster combat than in, say, re2. the slower pace there is fine for a horror game, but would get boring in an action game like remnant

it does say a lot about things these days that they emphasize dark souls so much in their marketing when in the end it plays much more like resident evil or dead space.

it's puzzling how few other devs understand that what really sets souls games apart is their carefully crafted levels/worlds/gear/aesthetics and not their combat mechanics or difficulty.

Autism

>though i do think the addition of the dodge roll is good, since it allows for faster combat than in, say, re2
yes the roll it's not too bad but stamina could go since it's pretty much useless as a mechanic, same for weight.
>it's puzzling how few other devs understand that what really sets souls games apart is their carefully crafted levels/worlds/gear/aesthetics and not their combat mechanics or difficulty.
true, too many game slap a stamina system and checkpoints and call it a ds like game.

I'm not sure why it matters so much, I'd rather fight something that's always going to be stronger than me instead of walking over enemies because I grinded.
Also, you can still be a little faggot and grind your way to victory since area level is set the first time you enter it.
Either way, there's enough mats dropping to upgrade every single piece of your gear equally and then half the other items as well.

Positives:
>Playing on PC, the game runs smooth, movement is fluid and the weapons (or the guns, at least) have impact. That immediately puts it on a higher level than most Souls-likes
>Bosses, side-bosses and sub-areas are all randomly determined on world generation and each give different (fixed) drops - lots of replayability
>Mod system for weapons is interesting and leads to some usage of tactics in certain cases
>A lot of binary choices that actually feature differing results - usually shit like help a boss or kill a boss, but still refreshing
>Bosses have alt-kill methods to obtain different loot
>Each world has different enemies to the last, usually several different kinds (or races) per individual area, so never really gets old
>If anyone in co-op finds a new weapon/accessory/armour, everyone receives it

Negatives:
>Story is threadbare and kinda shit, like they wanted to imitate Souls through a dripfeed of lore, but didn't really know how to handle it properly, so they just added a bunch of text dumps in hub areas and had additional story spoonfed to the player
>Mostly dull solo, much more fun in co-op
>Buggy at times
>Balance is all over the place
>Most boss encounters involve constant add management
>No method of communication in-game makes managing randoms a challenge
>Constant ailment spam with annoying effects and very slow recovery from said ailments
>Ammo drops are shared in multiplayer and so are limited purchase items such as upgrade materials
>Enemy scaling fixed to your weapon upgrades, so you kind of feel you're gimping yourself in advance if you're improving something too much

Aside from the gripes, I really am enjoying it. 8/10, would play co-op again

because there is not point in having an upgrade system if enemies are always scale to match you, the devs shoul insted just balance on your base level. also there is the negative side that if they botch how the scaling system works you may end up in a situation where the game is a joke or impossible, if i don't remember wrong this was the case for oblivion.
In short scaling system suck

Three things which are the hallmark of shitter games
>level scaling
>bosses who rely on mob spawning for challenge
>only the host progresses through story when you're playing co-op

>only the host progresses through story when you're playing co-op
It's for a good reason

have sex

But why even upgrade your gear then?

>the game's ending is dlc
Hard fucking passing on this one

I decided to give it a try and I've played it around one hour. I think it-

Nah. I'll be honest: I don't see any reason to give you my opinion because Soulsborne fans are unable to enjoy a game that isn't a From Software-made Soulsborne game.
The only honest advise I can give you is avoid any other game until Elden Ring is released.

Because the zones will upgrade without you and you'll get shit on forcing you to upgrade if you don't want to get one tapped or deal poor damage.

There's been threads like this for the past 2 weeks. There's no way you missed them.

People are griping about Bosses having minions, but how else do you realistically challenge 3 players that have the ability to shoot guns and kite?
Dark souls combat and guns are pretty damn difficult to balance but this game does it in at least a challenging way. Without adds, some bosses would have zero challenge.
The adds are a necessary evil from a balance standpoint because guns, 3 players, and kiting exist. There's no way to make bosses challenging without adds unless you resort to some sort of cheap raid boss mechanics like room clearing AoE or worse gimmicks that would negate the dark souls feel and make this game more akin to Destiny style bosses.
The adds provide pressure where it's needed, so while I can agree that it's overwhelming at times -- it's intended that way.

That poster is retarded user. The zones scale with you WHEN YOU FIRST ENTER THEM. They don't scale anymore unless you reroll your entire world. So if you are a shitter and can't git gud, you can farm and bruteforce that zone or boss.

>People are griping about Bosses having minions, but how else do you realistically challenge 3 players that have the ability to shoot guns and kite?
Adds are fine with 3 person coop. They are not in singleplayer.

It's a shooter, I understand getting swarmed from all sides in Dark Souls isn't much fun but in a shooter it works just fine even if I'd much rather have a good bossfight against a single foe with good mechanics.

It's a shooter with 2 weapon limit, almost no area of effect abilities or grenades, with enemies scaling to your level. With such a poor add design and in singleplayer it results in you getting swarmed from all sides by adds that sometimes take 3 rifle shots to kill each. The game either need tone them down considerably or give player more crowd control abilities.
A fucking RE5 gave you way more crowd control despite locking you in place while shooting.

Bosses have a minimum level I stayed gear level ten the whole game then got to the final boss and he was so damn spongey I had to upgrade.

Try out the Rattle Weed if you have access to it. It's top tier CC. You can also get mods for summoning Skull heads and the cute dual cleaver guys.

Well the problem is that RNG dictates the shit you're gettig in this game.
That's on top of the fact there's only 2 mod slots which severely limits any sort of pseudo-caster cultist playstyle.
