I got totally hooked to Taro's mushrooms after beating Automata, so I went and hunted down not only the OG Nier, but both of the DoD games that matter: the first and the third one.

I can ensure you: it was one helluva rollercoaster of madness. Especially the first DoD is TERRIBLE when it comes to the gameplay ... but that all plays to the greater plan of the games' themes.

PS3 emulation already fixeD this shit a couple years ago. You can find people running it at 4K / solid 30fps on Youtube. Even my oldass i7 2600k + GTX 1060 6gb combo gets steady-ish 30 at 1080p.

As for the game, it really depends on your tolerance for bad Dynasty Warriors rip-offs. The story/music are absolute kino, but the gameplay is REALLY rough and extremely grindy if you want to see all the endings.
If you can't stomach the gameplay, it's worth looking up the cutscenes on youtube at least.

I did play it on real deal PS2, but PCSX2 has been more than capable of emulating DoD1 for ages now.

The girl's corpse became possessed because it was infected by Red Eye spores/molecules(?) on the spot where that Red Eye died in Jerusalem. Not enough information was given and it is really convoluted.

3 is a little while before 1, but it's not too long and Brother One doesn't really age since he's an artificial Intoner. As such he can make it to pre-1 times and meets Caim.

However this is an alternate timeline where an alternate version of 3 is leading into an alternate version of 1.

I bought Drakengard 1 on launch, as a huge Squaresoft fan and even as a fan of Dynasty Warriors type games, I have to say Drakengard was honestly a fucking terrible game. A game only needs to do one thing uniquely well to be remembered and worthwhile, even if everything else is bad. Drakengard's a genuinely better game than 90% of Ubisoft's open world shovelware for that reason.

Because the events within loosely transpire in the main timeline as well and go a ways towards explaining why the world in 1 is the way that it is.

Fun-fact: In original script that got cut, Dimitri was still punished even after Rodrigue died. Annette and Felix were even meant to betray him. I don't know why Annette turned his back on him, but Felix did it because he thought that Dimitri killed Rodrigue.
I guess IS just chickened out of doing it and had him have redemption arc instead.
In their defense: Dimitri being full-blown Caim until the end would be very shit to do to his character unless IS planned to make him main villain of 3H, or some future sequel like Darkengard did Caim.
If this game's "choices" actually meant a damn, then perhaps they would be able to pull their original plans and have Dimitri stay Caim until the end like in original plans if you made wrong choices, while they have him snap out of it if you made the right ones. Obviously, this game's "choices" are a worthless meme, so you need to have linear outcome.

I think that lot of these issue would be solved if they just got rid of shitty self-insert Mary Sue MC that everyone needs to wank 24/7. Byleth, just like Corrin and Robin before him, drags the game down.

Byleth still drags the story down. The only route in which I found Byleth semi-bearable is Lions after time-skip. Mainly because the story has no focus on you at all and Dimitri basically develops on his own while you are just there observing. As much as otomes like to meme that you heal Dimitri, you actually don't. You are just there. If anything gets him "healed" it's death of Rodrigue and even that was re-written from what seems to be original script judging by cut-content.

jap zero is less "loud", presents herself in a more mature way that plays off with the other characters. but localizer were scared the zany sidecharacter would steal the show from zero so they upped her attitude.

All of the pieces are there for a fun combat system, with tons of unique weapons and spells, but the implementation is horrible.
It could have been so much better with just very slight tweaks like mana not being tied to each weapon. Which even would have been easier to do than what they did.

Drakengard 1 was never meant to have bad gameplay. Taro has stated on the record that the game's being so terrible to play was a result of a lack of budget, time, and the fact that the team was following trends (DW was big at the time) but didn't have the experience in how to make a game of that genre. He has said that his biggest regret with that game is that it sucks to play because there's no point in the player being told that they're a monster for enjoying the mass killing if they hate every second of it and most likely quit the game before even getting to the point before they're told that.

I found Chapter 3 to be the worst, Chapter 4 is tolerable to me because of Verdelet's violent hatred for subhumans. Chapter 10 and 11 are both also pretty bad.

I can't make Drakengard 3 running on my pc. I'm on loading screen with 1fps and a lot of errors. I saw people running it on worse PCs in 4k so I'm not sure what wrong am I doing.
I tried almost all configurations, reinstalling game, clearing caches and still the same error. I'm on i5-4690k and 1080. Previously I could launch it and played until the pissing scene but still had some problems with game. After swapping to 0.6 from 0,5 it takes on hour to get past unrealengine 3 logo.
Should I just download different game release or try even more configs?

The combat is always so simplistic that pressing X to roll the text or input a combo feels equally dull. Platinum managed to make things a bit more interesting at least.

It's not great, user, it's bearable and repetitive once you finally get the best weapon.

I think it's one of the best soundtracks in videogames of all time. It doesn't just enhance the atmosphere or sets the tone, it screams out its message at you instead, which is exactly how it should be with Drakengard. But even on its own it's a fantastic piece of experimental dissonant music.

Nah, the ending of the final route in Drakenguard 3 means the the first game doesn't happen and the Angels/Watchers don't have a way in.
The White Flower is truly gone and while Zero might reincarnate down the like as Mikail hopes, the world won't fall apart since the chain of events that lead to Caim going completely mad never happens.

But the Black Flower still exists and as long as it does the world will never be safe.

Um...no. In all endings Brother One survives, he is unseen in most endings, to then be able to make the cult of the Watchers. It's one of those "the game was rigged from the beginning" type things, because even if Zero kills herself & all her sisters, Zero never realizes that One made a male copy of herself that hides from Zero, and the flower lives on in him. Thing is, the flower in Brother One is watered down because it's a copy of a copy. There was a nasty comic that follows the story of Brother One as he tries to kill the people going crazy from the flower

I think the "official" timeline that branches into Drakengard 1 isn't any of the game's timeline, or the comics, but a story released in one of the books that combines most of the endings but in a specific way.

I was listening to the Nier Soundtrack on Youtube and the picture for the video had Nier: Replicant and Nier: Gestalt

This image is wrong. The music is great and the gameplay is a mediocre musou. It's not shit. People here are way too fucking spoiled, they haven't played games with actual shit gameplay that are rendered near unplayable by how bad it is.

I can't remember the name but it was a three disk puzzle adventure on the PS1.
The third disk has a puzzle that needed you to go back to the first disk to get something and solve the puzzle.

In the japanese script they explicitly tell the player that the only reason he survived the village burning was because he took 3 kids with him to the woods to fuck them in the ass.

I'm sure it has happened, but looking at the "Replicant" and "Gestalt" titles made me think of it. I don't think it would have a place in modern times with digital games being the norm but back then I think it would have been a really cool mechanic. Here's the thing though, you could effectively play through one game and complete it without touching the other. In fact, to really break the 4th Wall or whatever, the game could've been marketed as something you could buy for you and your pal/partner/buddy whatever. You buy the game and give them one of the discs.

I'm not sure how it could work out though, I just thought it would be an interesting mechanic. I haven't thought it completely through.
