I don't understand the Valve meme. The Half-Life games are not bad, but they're fairly standard linear shooters. There's nothing standout about them. The Portal games are solid, and TF2 used to be alright, but that's about it.

Aside from the fact that they looked good at the time, there's nothing that makes the Half-Life games worth playing nowadays. At least Portal is still unique and still fun.
Metroid Prime released around the same time as Half-Life 2, and it's infinitely better, despite its age. And I like games like Thief and System Shock. I just never understood why people like Half-Life as much as they do.
