ugh, star citizen's like fyre festival except it actually worked.
but user it's a really good investment. large profit margins!
Jesus.. I would love to be part of that dev team, imagine being set for life without even making anything?
games been in development for 7~ years and has gotten millions upon millions of dosh
is there a game in a playable state
can i drop 30$ to play or do i need to spend 500$ on a ship
$20 on christmas a few years back
You know dam well the only thing worth doing in these threads are
>Post yfw you didn't fall for the Star Citizen Scam
>spending thousands on micro-tansaction jewing.
>(((investing))).
Thanks for the laugh. smooth-brains.
the core gameplay loop is STILL incomplete and boring.
i dont think they'll ever finish it while they keep getting a shitton of money. if they finish the core gameplay people can finally say "wait this is kinda lame" instead of "it's not finished yet!"
Do people even get to fly these ships ingame or they just get a receipt saying 'you'll get it when it's done'
How do stupid people get so much money to waste on things like this and twitch thots and funko pops while someone like me who is actually smart and intelligent is a neet?
Only about $750, im not stupid to spend thousands of dollars on a game.
You aren't smart or intelligent
REMINDER
>you NEED 16GB+ of RAM to LOAD the game
>if you dont have an ssd it takes over FIFTEEN MINUTES for it to load
>even so if you dont have a RETARDEDLY HIGH END machine you will not get 60fps on low at 1080p
>this is "expected" because the game "is made to be future proof :^)"
so you're only 3/4ths retarded?
The first 2 are basically standart pc stuff. Whats the problem.
>even thinking about spending money on Scam Citizen
looking forward to the internet historian episode about star citizen
Of course not, just one days disposable income. Whats to cry about.
You can take your ship and fly in space and one city.
There isn't anything else to do except for flying.
>tfw a buddy of mine tried to convince me to invest and I told him it was a scam after looking at it for two seconds
Stupid piratefags
You will NEVER EVER play Star Citizen or Squadron 42 and the sequel to Squadron 42
> $0
And I'm going to keep it that way.
Why won't authorities do anything to stop this scam? Sunk cost fallacy fools are lapping this shit up and it's very sad.
So is there any incentive for somebody who isn't a whale to even play Star Shitizen when the losers who spent thousands on the game will be dominating right out of the gate?
oh nooooooo
Post >yfw you didn't fall for scam citizen
I know a guy who spent a load on this game and if it ever comes out I'm just gonna hang around his spaceship lol
>guy who visits fake doctor for his serious medical issues because of fucked up health care system is jealous when he sees that other people have money to waste
No winners here. Only retards. The only difference is how much money they have.
is internet historian the same guy as internet aristocrat, just with the name changed because he helped start GG?
I feel like his channel is a big reason why faggot kids are greentexting outside of Yea Forums nowadays.
No you fucking newfag.
Just a little bit of faith a couple of years ago.
Now I can't wait for that bubble to burst.
is this literally "Capitalism, the game"?
>digital product
>in stock
lol
also, 60 bucks when it first got announced
wrote that money off immediately though (like you should with ANY kickstarter or indiegogo or whathaveyou)
When they had the thing where you could spend $30 to get both the solo game and Star Citizen I got tempted and then thought I did wrong not to buy it when I had the chance
That was like 5 years ago
I'm sorry I didn't know who your non-vidya e-celeb was; I don't need to watch videos on internet history since I was there when most of it happened.
>Why won't authorities do anything to stop this scam
Natural selection can only be stymied so much.
>I don't need to watch videos on internet history since I was there when most of it happened.
oh shit dad is that you
christ give me $675 and I'll play actual games that exist and stream me playing them just for you, it'll be like living the adventure
That's Jamal to you, son.
I've spent 10 € on Elite Dangerous.
sorry Jamal
i dont think you understand user
those arent exaggerations
I was this fucking close when it was announced.
Being a broke student saved me.
what
>calling someone a newfag
>thinks people only recently started greentexting outside of Yea Forums
Fucking hell, go back to r*ddit.
16GB(+) is still not exactly mainstream.
No game ducking takes 15 minutes to Load, retard.
why the fuck are you people so ready to take it up the ass? its about as obvious as it gets that this is a legitimate digital ponzi scheme, and you faggots are all lining up to dump money into this black hole of a project.
i really dont get it.
>serial number
>production order
>for virtual items
what?
>tfw concierge
I learned my lesson years ago but the damage is already done.
Not him but i think the point is that most games run fine with 8GB of RAM and a HDD.
I just come to star citizens threads to laugh at poor souls who got scammed
Pretty sure the huge load time is mostly networking related to get a space on a server before you can start loading where you spawn in. There's a bunch of infinite loading issues over the years in reports from the game failing to find a space but either keeps trying or doesn't know how to process that situation (return to menu, throw error etc)
¿?
You gotta explain that m8.
I said I couldn't spend any back when it was announced (and when it still was actually something they could do)
I haven't spend a penny on it.
So what happens if you lose your $3000 space ship?
do you just get it back?
im trying to picture what this game is suppose to even be anymore, and if its like EVE then just getting your $3000 ship back would be game breaking.
imagine EVE, where youre fighting a war, the enemy loses their titan....but gets it back instintilly because it was a pre order bonus.
imagine a corporation built up of preorder cucks that all get their titans back within minutes
>SSD
Dropped.
There is no excuse to 'NEED' an SSD. Period. Especially with game sizes being fuckhueg these days.
Reminder Xbox and PS5 finally got around to including an SSD and they're tripling down on marketing it as A REVOLUTION IN POWER, SAME GAMES BUT BUTTERY SMOOTH
They're not exactly that expensive and most games benefitted. It's "acceptable" on HDD for most games I can think of because they have console ports that are 5 times the time to load due to other bottlenecks.
There's an insurance system built into the game for that.
i highly doubt money will be an issue, it never is for any game once you've played long enough.
if you're poor just wait the 15 minutes and don't complain.
EVE is pretty much the same with insurance policies. You don't lose it completely in currency, just a slice of it gets skimmed from you for fucking up.
They made a *waves arms around* mention the economy is going to be NPC run for the majority so getting what you want might be a little cheaper and more convenient by comparison to EVE but that's the only real difference.
in eve you have to spend 8weeks to build a titan
you dont just buy it back with insurance money
He's not wrong. Still a fucking scam, but probably not a sales pitch.
Why wouldn't you have them on backlog so you can keep them as insurance or auction it off for people on the downtrend like that situation?
But SC also mentioned stuff like the capitals needing to be assembled too.
I imagine most of the game will have a backend that looks like Dorf Fort if they stick to their concepts.
Yeah no that's not true. The very definition of rich is having shitloads more money than most people.
Most players in eve can't replace a 2 billion isk battleship at the drop of a hat.
The only retards still dumping money into this scam are trannies already deeply invested into it out of fear of losing everything and looking like a retard in front of friends/family once the money runs out. Thats the Scam citizen spiral
>Why wouldn't you have them on backlog
shits too expensive
>someone like me who is actually smart and intelligent
user i....
Tbh that's a bit why I didn't stick to EVE. Felt a bit like the prohibitive expenses like that made null a little stagnant. Getting slotted into the wrong time zone orgs and "Fozziesov" didn't help either.
>be me and back this game for around $100 when it was a kickstarter only.
>spend another hundred when things where finally picking up.
>7 years pass by.
>company made over 20 million
There's $200 dollars i'll never get back, i'm glad i didn't invest more into this project.
>shits too expensive
They make millions of dollars per month, user.
>Dropped a cool $20k on imaginary ships
>Jesus I can't play this on my sony vaio laptop? What do I look like I'm made of money?
>Service Side object container streaming will probably be delayed until next year
>It's required for Squadron 42
>Static server meshing will come out 2020 (allegedly)
>Dynamic server meshing in 2021 (allegedly)
This game might actually die.
And it actually already looks worse than mass effect andromeda
>Anything other than 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 gigabyte
How the fuck? Anyone who knows about RAM and how to change it would not install asymetric amounts of it.
Its not even a tech demo
I don't even know what this game is supposed to be about anymore. It just seems like a money pit for morons, some of which are whales. For there to be a barely playable demo that is shit and this game has been in development for over 7 years now just shows how much of a fucking sham it is. I cant believe people are still dropping money into this.
Has there ever been a video game related scam that was this blatant?
>start with 2x4GB
>buy another 2x8GB
duh
>supposed to be about
CIG doesn't even know. It went from being a space sim to some monstrosity set in space.
virtual machines most likely hence the small percentage
>Anyone who knows about RAM
There you have it user
Most people don't know shit about RAM, much less what dualchannel is/does
its pretty much capitalism simulator at this point
the rich get richer and everyone else gets fucked
>Just shy of $100 a person.
>Same people paying for imaginary ships would be horrified by the idea of paying for: social healthcare, 99% of charity work, 100 lottery tickets, three copies of skyrim, 0.25% of the known and observed universe of trains dlc, 3 left joycons, 486 adult daipers, three to five average pizza takeouts in the US (plus tip), a custom XXL Dragon dildo with no less than two litres of fake cum and a ball pump, a ford model-t if bought in 1938, or no less than six thousand, four hundred and thirty six plastic washers.
Laptops and prebuilt shit
I remember my sister got bought a prebuilt with """1GB""" of RAM and it actually has 768mb, I have no fucking idea how they were legally getting away selling that shit
$40, which is more than I've gotten out of it.
Holy shit this dude's a cunt
>NO YOU'RE WRONG
>YOU'RE WRONG
>THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AT ALL
>IT'S NOT BUGGY AT ALL IT'S GREAT
>PLEASE DON'T CHARGEBACK YOUR JPEGS I CAN'T GET ANY OTHER JOB WITH THIS ON MY RESUME
No internet aristocrat is Jim89jim aka mr metokur
onboard GPU uses RAM user
Nah dude, it literally had 768mb in, as when I went the shop to complain they had some computers listed as 1024mb RAM some as 1GB
That is absolutely a sales pitch you retard.
Look at the disgust in this woman's face.
Oh wait, I should add context.
post the full thing
>much less what dualchannel is/does
It's literally color coded, and computer retards never open the magic mystery box anyway.
Fuck I should have added more context. That is a 275 dollar dinner for concierge only backers. Concierge means you have to have spent at least a thousand dollars on the game.
>boomers with too much money
>fedoralords with too much money
To be fair the asian monopoly man clearly sees this as the height of neo-bourgeoise society and is having the time of his life. Look at him go.
oh no no no no no
People are finally clamping down on their foolery? This got a free pass along with VR shit.
ahahah that asian guy with the fake mustche and top hat.
No, the cult is going into over time in defending them.
wow a $100 swag bag free! I wonder how they paid for i- oh right
Investment implies I'll see a return. This seems like a money sink.
Please buy the new shiny spaceship, I've got a family to feed
The greatest scam of all vidya history.
No, it's a circlejerk. The people there would probably already buy the ship out of autism. You know it, I know it.
Nothing, because I'm not a complete retard.
the kind of person that spends his time being Robert's paypig with thousands upon thousands of dollars can afford to spend a few of those thousands on a top grade PC
Okay these wojacks are just fucking retarded now, this one doesn't even make sense.
star citizen is just an insanely ambitious game.
if you know about game development you realize just how long it would take to create what they're trying to do. and since they're trying to do it with a massive staff and on the cutting edge, it's stupidly expensive. hence the obscenely over-priced whale-bait.
whether or not they'll ever release a finished product is up for debate. it amazes me that their first focus was not creating things for players to do with their expensive toys. they've had 7 years to work on it and there's just not much to actually do in the game. if there were some sort of goal to reach that everyone who bought the game could participate in for free, then waiting for updates would sting a lot less you know? they'd have a much larger playerbase that would rep the game and keep things from dying down so much.
until they start making functional gameplay, it's a no-go and I will assume it will fail until I see that. otherwise it really does just look like a massive cash-grab.
>the redditor in the top hat
>they’re all old white men
What confuses me is that eventually in the ideal scenario this game comes out, its brilliant. Wow. Everything everyone dreamed.
What then? What happens when someone who wasn't an idiot buys the game? Would they be paying hundreds of dollars for a ship? No, they weren't stupid enough before this so why would they be now? So can you earn and buy the ships in game? No matter how much effort that takes, even EVE levels of investment and time say, you've still instantly and hilariously devalued every idiot who spent literal thousands of dollars. This is the absolute ideal scenario too, and assumes the game actually fucking comes out and is functional.
Is this pasta?
>Insanely ambitious
In what way? Also isn't Infinity Battlescape being developed by like two guys and already has more systems than Star Citizen?
lol brainlets when will they learn
Better average hairline than I would have expected from such a crowd.
Star Citizen's biggest problem is Chris Roberts being the one who decides when things are done. He's a perfectionist and generally unwilling to release anything unless everything is done and up to whatever standard he has. This increases production time, and as it takes longer to do things the tech advances and now previous things that were done now need to be redone because they can look prettier, or be made better. This , of course, makes the production time even longer...
Maybe right now but as someone who backed that game, that's literally just space Battlefield with a side of base building. If both games were compared on concepts they'd be completely separate games, combined arms vs. sandbox.
Spend enough money and you can get a golden pistol, golden rifle, golden space suit and golden starship
Now that Mandalore is resurrected he really ought to make another SC video
I'm not surprised a sub full of teenagers angry at their virginity like to hate on this game.
I view my investments in this game like a retirement fund. After this game comes out I will never need to play anything else, so I will actually be SAVING money by spending it now while it's cheaper.
While you morons save up your good buy points to buy the new Xbox 900 to continue waging your console wars I will be set for life exploring an ENTIRE universe because I was smart with my money and invested it properly.
>He's a perfectionist
On top of that he's doing what Duke Nukem Forever did and constantly adding new features to the game. At this point it's literally become a marketing tool full of "what if" features that he's promising in order to raise more money to implement more features...to raise more money
He's not doing things to finish the game anymore
Thoughts on this ship?
It costs 890$ and comes with a smaller ship inside its hangar.
Should i buy one?
It's literally a luxury yacht, you might as well hand over your money and goods to pirates
lmao 2 ship
How in the FUCK can anybody defend this? Genuine question. How can you justify spending more then $60 on a game? I need to know
>$60
dollars arent that strong a currency and sixty isnt so big a number
I spent $300 for one of the early packages and I have no regrets. I understand that's hard for the 15 year olds here to post today but $300 isn't that much money and most retards will waste that kind of money in a week just going out to eat and drinking with their friends.
I found out a few years after the fact that one of the devs is someone I actually know who's worked on some certain games oldfags would praise on Yea Forums and he's an amazing programmer. Between knowing that and the constant updates I have no fear of the game is doing great.
Honestly though the funniest thing? People shit on games that get put out and aren't complete and then bring out dlc later as being complete with shitty graphics and yadda yadda and such but then are upset Star Citizen is actually taking it's time to make a complete modern high end game. Just fucking wait for it and when it comes out form your own opinions, until then go back to playing the shitty games from 10 years ago you're still playing because there's been nothing good for over a decade.
In launch day, how are people supposed to compete against the whales with their 1000$ super carriers?
This shit is going to turn into a EVE online 2.0.....
Which is sandbox and which is combined arms?
>compared on concepts
Well Star Citizen is SUPPOSED to be a space sim. With Infinity Battlescape supposed to be a multiplayer space shooter or dog fighter.
They're milking the whales dry before they are found out and even the most fanatical whales turn on them.
You had to pay one grand (uno grande) just to have the privilege to pay 275 bucks to attend a sales pitch for a 700 dollars jpg. It's just selling dreams to retards.
It's no surprise at one point Roberts tried to smoothly transition scam shitizen into a pyramid scheme.
...
I spent more than $60 on a game in the 90s dude. I spend over $1000 a year just to play hockey in an adult league. I spend over $50 a week on comic books. $60 on a game every few months ain't shit you fucking child.
>Hangar doesn't even work
Where people in $5 ships are the meta and get all the action while $1000 ship owners get to power trip in teamspeak every evening?
SC is sandbox, some narrative strings attached with the public server and a promise about private servers/modding down the line, but you can make your own hillbilly shack on a moon and RP to your hearts content.
Infinity you're going to get votekicked for being AFK in a team PVP game.
you arent.
REMINDER that they REMOVED PIRACY AS A GAMEPLAY MECHANIC so that whales wouldnt get upset that players boarded and stole their ships. yes, one of the most fun mechanics conceivable in a space sim was removed so as to not upset whales.
fuck this game
Is this pasta?
pastas right?
It worked when i tried it in-game with a friend
you wish
sturd shitizens get super defensive when people attack their pyramid scheme
2 niggers there too
>SC is sandbox
How exactly?
>private servers/modding
That's not happening.
>You can make your own hillbilly shack on the moon
But you can't.
The cost of insuring said super carrier will probably be insanely expensive that starting players and even whales can't afford it. Even if they can apparently bigger ships take longer to replace, so new players could just kamikaze their cheap starter ships until it's dead whilst the owners have to wait 1+ months for it to come back or whatever
The most straightforward explanation is probably that capital ship mechanics fucking suck ass right now
Private servers are absolutely happening.
Have video of it working? Here's video if it not working.
dailymotion.com
>play elite dangerous once every 5-6 months for like 10 hours
>lol
lol
I spent $25 doillars on a sale to get the game and the basic bitch ship like three years ago. I played around in their little sandbox alpha thing for a week, and then just stopped. There's nothing in the Alpha yet for me to actually do to advance in anything.
That is the absolute most I could ever justify anything actually paying for this dumpster fire of a production.
Maybe if the source code of the project is stolen private servers will happen.
Pretty sure they implied they removed in one of their typically vague posts that seemingly had big implications, then when the shitstorm happened they had to backtrack and explain that it wasn't removed
Nice try, r/Yea Forums.
>but you can't
you apparently missed the update where they added the ability to buy a base building ship as well as land claim beacons. You absolutely can now, at least in an invoice.
What's Roberts exit strategy?
> Office is set on fire, burning everything, no off-site backups so source code permanently lost
> Fakes his own dead and flees to mexico
>Shamelessly takes the money and gives zero fucks about retards
My money is on #1
>Evocati
That video was two patches ago we're on PTU now
They've already stated that there's going to be a main universe maintained by RSI then anyone else can run their own universe's and mod them and SQ42 is the storyline game.
Yeah, I did miss that update, because it's not in the game. The only thing they've done is sell people a thousand dollar ship that can "teraform".
CIG has stated a lot of things. Like the game coming out in 2015, 2016, 2017, well you get the idea.
Feels good not being retarded with my money. All these fags trying to justify buying into this shit are just sad. It's 1s and 0s. This will NOT be the end all game that they are hoping for.
yeah, the official stance is they "reworked" it
>you can steal ships, but if the owner spawns it at a station the one you're in disappears instantly
>you can steal ships, but if the owner logs out it disappears instantly
>you can steal ships, but you can't sell them or keep them
wait so are you arguing SC is like Infinity because it's not out yet?
Sorry, I should say a 1,000 dollar JPG, because it's not even a ship in game and it won't be for a very long time. And the gameplay probably won't be there (if it ever does) until 2023.
No. Internet Aristocrat changed his name to Mister Metokur. Internet Historian is a completely different guy who lives on a completely different continent.
>uh oh we're not making $1mi/month anymore
>aight guys feature freeze, let's all work on replacing all "beta" strings with "1.0"
>4 hours later 1.0 comes out
>thanks for the money lol
>the guy with the tophat and fake moustache
jesus it truly is like those oil tycoons from the early 1900's
How can someone run this blatant a scam for this long?
Takes the money, shuts down the studio and gives no fucks. The cultists are so indoctrinated he could probably kool-aid them at this point and they'd pay him thousands for the privilege.
Tons of games have taken the same development time as SC has without the scope of their goal, honestly I wish they would never have put out goal dates so people would shut up about it.
Have you ever worked on a game? I started last year and I've literally put in 70 hour work weeks on top of my normal job getting like 4 hours of sleep a night just to finish 1 fucking asset and I my shit is trash compared to what SC will be. There's a reason the industry is plagued with crunch time and overworked code monkeys and shit.
i thought that was warframe for a second
oh wait warframe is a much better game. and it exists too.
>spend the big bux to get the uber ship
>retailfags are completely outgunned and leave within weeks
>whales crying that no one is there to join their awrsum >-< guild or as they like to call it "watch me click 'death' on unsuspected retailfags and applaud me for spending thousands of actual dollaridoos to accomplish this"
>game goes the way every whale-focused online game goes
>game revolves around space ships
>you have to have a space ship to do anything
>guy steals your space ship
>now you cant do anything
seeing the problem here?
im pretty sure they do have a form of limited piracy in that you can swipe someones ship but it doesnt stay with you and disappears when you log out. person you stole it from can get another from insurance
so what if they turn? they got their money already. retards got taken advantage of, absolutely nothing new. only new thing is instead of just tricking people out of some quick cash they're tricking gullible retards out of literal millions of dollars.
if this isn't a scam on the level of some of the worst ponzi schemes in history then I don't know what to call it.
I got extra 2GB for my laptop with 8GB in it. How bad it is?
because the video game market is a digital wild west?
>boomers
>fat trannies
>asian guy satirizing everyone around without any of them noticing
the fat guy in red, i recognise.
He got famous for buying a 10k+ ship
No, none of the same games have taken 8 years and had a broken, buggy alpha. Also LITERALLY NO games have also charged people thousands of dollars, up to 30,000 dollars.
>Have you ever worked on a game
Not a game, but software development, sure.
>my shit is trash compared to what SC will be
What you THINK SC will be. And really I'm surprised CIG has hired you, they seem to have plenty of people just like you.
>there will be people who spent thousands on this scam that will die before its ever released
i know right ? How is jet fuel even supposed to melt steal beams ?
Can't wait to see Scam Citizen crush and burn while taking whole crowdfunding with it
you say that as if they ever intended to release a game to begin with
>that guy that lost his wife and children from becoming obsessed with the game
>was still obsessed afterwards
imagine your father walking out of your life to spend money on jpgs
didn't they have like 3 months worth of cash left, 3 months ago?
>complaining that star citizens charges to much for its dlc
>instead of asking for a living wage of at least $15 an hour
>Stop union-busting and outsourcing jobs
>Companies pay taxes and don't evade them
good goys, also argue that tips should exist and are a good thing
Because there's no law against financially exploiting the retarded.
I mean, even if/when the game finally does come out, how do the people who have given the developers hundreds to thousands of dollars legitimize it? I think of the games I really really like and even those I can't fathom paying that much money to play.
I don't understand this post. First of all, it's not DLC. The developers get a lot more than 15 dollars an hour. Their jobs aren't outsourced either. Half the company works in sunny California.
>unironically being a commie in the current year
You have to go back.
>things cost to much
you make too little
I spent 60$ and got a refund while they were still allowing refunds.
Chris Roberts is a fucking failure as a game developer and this game will never be released.
At this rate they would need around 10 years to deliver and finish all the digital ships they sold.
Not to mention the 100 star systems when they haven't even finished ONE yet.
>there's no law against financially exploiting the retarded
Pretty sure fraud is illegal.
>The only retards still dumping money into this scam are trannies
wat
Something like that, they're burning through $100 million a year so god knows how they're staying afloat when they've banked very little money
>not an argument
I can't afford a plane ticket because the top 1% owns more than 200% of the worlds economy bro
>you'll get it when it's done
ive used only SSDs for over 5 years now why do you still have a hard drive?
laws don't apply to video games. they are highly antiquated and extremely out of date. which is why shit like this and lootboxes allow video game corporations to run rampant and unchallenged.
did you know the cyberpunk genre is based around corporations ruling the world? fascinating...
>Chris Roberts is a fucking failure as a game developer
But is successful as businessman.
>laws don't apply to video games
If Chris closed up shop tomorrow several country's governments would absolutely go after his ass to investigate his finances and see what is going on. You take money from people and promise a product, but don't deliver it? Fraud. Video games don't just stop being products because they're digital.
the second they hear about it being related to video games those old out of touch politicians would immediately tune out. "video games are for children" and all that.
>I can't afford a plane ticket
Then how the fuck are you on the internet right now? If you're so broke you can't even afford air fare why are you wasting your money on video games and shitposting?
user, you act like the game will ever actually exist
dont get too upset
Don't worry. If I want to emulate the experience of spending hundreds on virtual nonexistent garbage, I'll go buy some hats in TF2.
Potentially also void.
at least TF2 is an actual game. with actual gameplay. and its fun
and free.
>immediately tune out
I think they would jump at the chance to legislate video games. Especially video games that have taken 1/4 of a billion dollars from people.
>investing in Star Shitizen
He's a good salesman I'll give him that.
He made millions selling pictures of spaceships.
>Three of the biggest space games this decade have completely fallen flat on delivering what they promised
Goddamn why do they hate us?
Engels predicted this
you don't have to be on a plane to use the internet retard
How did scam citizen gain all this traction in the first place?
I can't wait to show my grandson my vintage virtual spaceship collection. By that time it will worth millions.
Then get a job nigger.
As it turned out people really wanted a space sim again.
Then Scamcitizens came along on kickstarter and it looked good.
Then the hangar thing came and it looked good.
Then arena commnder and some more shit came and it looked good.
Then... well then nothing came along for like 6 years and here we are.
People keep falling for the "you can do anything" meme. Coupled with space with presents limitless possibility and people keep falling for it. See NMS, Spore, etc.
they're still hung up on the non-argument of video games causing violence from the 90's. its just never gonna end. if they could sell digital heroin through video games, they would do it in a second.
two copies back in 2012 for 40$ each
i was going to play coop with my bro
and now they're both dead
do you remember that one fat guy who won the lottery once and claimed he was going to develop an mmo, and then made a pitch for more funding saying things like 'it will be the best mmo, everything you want will be possible' and vague things like that?
This game, was similar, only they were smart enough to trick stupid people
Don't worry lad co-op is dead too
Yeah some games are already like this. It took me like 20-30 minutes to load into a game in rust before i upgraded my ram to the "recommended" benchmark.
>spend 20 minutes loading in
>booted for flyhacking because anti cheat system thinks im trying to fly when im running up a tree branch
>have to wait in queue for 10 minutes
>game then takes another 15 minutes to load into server
>game freezes when i get into a firefight
ya that was fun. Thank fuck i upgraded my pc.
>1/4 of a billion
Wait, is Star Citizen that little?
>when you have exponentially more money than brain cells
Zero (0) USD. It looks cool, has promise and will never make because of the hubris, indecisiveness and dictstorship of one single man. Imagine being so fucking full of yourself that you single handedly destroy a fantastic concept, enrage and alienate your own employees and burn through millions and millions in funding.
>do you remember that one fat guy who won the lottery once and claimed he was going to develop an mmo, and then made a pitch for more funding saying things like 'it will be the best mmo, everything you want will be possible' and vague things like that
No. I remember the science based dragon MMO by some lady though
$0
>Headed by Chris Roberts who made a bunch of popular games people played when they were younger
>Said players are now older and richer
>Crowdfunding back when Kikestarter fad was starting to gain traction and before all the scams came through
>Absolute drought of space games for years, the only notable recent release being X3
>Vast promises of things like "player driven economy", big universe, massive capital ships you can work on with friends, seamless transition from walking around on ships during flight to ground, etc
>"Working" prototype to show it's not a scam showing off the carrier
its called budgeting lol I'm not gonna buy some non essential airplane ticket
I mean, the idea was definitely to get people to buy the ship, but as the guy said there just was too few people invited for it to be the first objective. They probably wanted to.
1. Generate hype for the ship indirectly by having whales praise it to the community
2. Solidify the feeling of loyalty from those same whales
I mean the goal is obviously to make money, so that's semantic at best
I have three and its still not enough bro don't you see
Why user
why
Yeah it definitely has worse animations.
Hundred dollar swag bag for that event.
>one line about topic at hand
>rest of post is utter nonsense
>like an episode of "deranged AnCap goes larping on /biz/"
You're either schizo/autist or underage with middle school level English skills and little to no reading comprehension ability.
I've never seen gameplay of this shit, does it even have gameplay? Is it just a prank and a scam?
You can fly ships. And do some trading, and shoot people. That's about it.
$0
I don't pay for early access games, I only pay for games which are completed and released.
Lol
why is Oddjob donating to this scam?
A grand total of $45 for the cheapest ship. If it never comes out I'm fine, if it does thats fine too.
I thought that was like a physical model of the ship or something, is that actually for the ship in game??
Realistically. 75 dollars for an avenger Titan starter pack. That's the best entry into the game and join a pvp org to shit on furry and carebear players that stream and cry when you kill them.
Everyone who shits on this game is likely a poorfag. The high barrier to entry keeps most of the undesirables out. For the rest, we have pvp orgs.
Star Citizen accepts EBT?
That's it boys. What do you say, worth 275 dollars plus however many thousands spent on JPGs of ships?
Good on you.
Welp thats more than most space sims. Thats thenproblem with being reductionist.
The main issue with statcitizen is its lack of breadth of content. They tried to go way too complex so theyve spent so much time on deep systems and fidelity they havent heen able to actually crank out content.
>Wing Commander
is it kino
Sorry bro, I got some bad news. The test results came back and.. you're retarded. You might want to inform any past partners you've had.
Remember when it was pitched as mostly a wing commander freelancer kinda game and not a universe sim?
>literally can't into reading comprehension
He said the elite own 200% of the worlds money. Let that sink in for a minute.
>the $100 swag bag is a bag containing pictures of spaceships
at least they are consistent
I think 2020 will be the year lads. Very early 2021 at worst. Either the game crashes because the money is just gone, or they release Squadron 42 who wil be missing a lot of content. I will bet half my epic game store library they will try to drum up interest by calling it an Early Access release
>theyve spent so much time on deep systems and fidelity
They've only spent time on fidelity and ships. Flight model is borked beyond belief. Gameplay is non existent. Key technologies for the game to even work are years away AT BEST. Up until last year, or was it this year? the game didn't stream shit to memory. You loaded into game and every faggot that was sicking dick on a moon a mile away was loaded into your client in real time.
>cousin has spent 800 on Scam Shitizen
>says that he is "buying more than a game, but bringing a dream to reality"
2020 won't be the year because they're not getting server meshing working until 2021 as
I bought an entire Subaru BRZ in near-new condition for almost exactly that price.
About 20? dollars i think, like 5-6 years ago....
S-shut up, senpai..!
The game will 'close' before it ever opens. They will post a standard mmo shutdown post and announce star citizen 2.
They did it, they refined the whale mmo to the point they dont even require producing a game, it will have the standard life cycle of such mmos with out anyone having to install any software. Its really wonderful when you think of it in this context.
It's a free market, bitch. Intelligent creatures don't need government dictation to tell them how to spend money.
When it first was announced seemed fine, then got feature creeped
Now people with strong pcs might consider it just to fly around the tech demo and come back every frew months to see what's changed
What a joke. Why people still spending money on this bullshit?
How long has Star Citizen even been going on
>newfag calls other user newfag because he doesnt have working knowledge of current e-celebrities
Pot, kettle, black. Also irony.
Before stumbling upon this cambodian tai chi training IRC, I too used to greentext albeit I called it "in-lining". Damn was I cool once.
they have the motivation to work and throw money at useless stuff, meanwhile you can't leave your house...
for me, i'm hikki because i can't fathom how to make money without being a wageslave.
only exit is the rope.
You paid that much to go slow?
So this is what all the wanna-be space pilots looks like...
bro, the issue is not giving money for a game. the issue is that there is no game.
you're literally paying for DLC before the game is even out.
and yeah, you can play a glorified demo but even then it is apparent that the base gameplay/mechanic is not all that great or streamlined so they're doubling down on trinkets you can sink your money into as a means to keep you hooked
the core business model here is just pants on head retarded because they found out they can syphon infinite funds from idiots without ever finishing the game and even if by any chance they do finish some sort of "final" version of it they'll ignore that it sucks ass and will continue to produce dlc garbage
Star Citizen is a playable trailer for a game too ambitious to exist.
about two hours of laughter and disbelief
So what happens if this game finally releases and it's actually good?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA THEY GOT YOU
imagine the smell.
By the time the game comes out i'll be space traveling in real life.
>games been in development for 7~ years and has gotten millions upon millions of dosh
Not just millions, it may have the biggest dev budget of all games ever so far
>reddit has been using green text for years now
How did you not know this?
Dude fuck you Yea Forums you guys wish you could scam retards like this.
I do wish I could do that, but I'd still laugh at the retards that fell for it
go home Chris you know they're right
A friend of mine plays and has something like $1600 in ships tied to his account from gifts. One of the guys he plays with has spent over $8000 on the same models so he can give them away when the game is finished right before the heat death of the universe.
At this point they probably have enough money to fund a small island nation for a decade, you'd think people'd stop donating at a point.
Wasn't this shit confirmed to be a money laundry front?
they do have to come up with new boomer-cool overdesigned ships on the regular to keep the cash flowing
laundering*
Because Roberts has tricked them into believing.
-$150, I bought some basic shit early on and then resold it for double the price to brainlet boomers
if i bought in earlier, more and held for longer i would get a couple thousands in profit, the ships were like crypto at one point
Does the game have any gameplay yet or is it still just a buggy single player sandbox for your bought ships?
Based Mandalore dabbing on scam shitizen cucks
What is ambitious about the game?
Then there's a good game to play.
Star citizen is like a AAA patreon scam. Why the fuck will they ever finish when they can release tiny amounts of content to satisfy their audience and continue to have a nice steady income coming in?
This kind of shit happens because of all the nerd fanbases, science fiction fans are the biggest bitches in the entire universe.
They're the ones who always throw untold amounts of money on sci-fi shit. Not even furries and their thousands of dollars fursuits come even closer.
Hes the guy who made that video about everything that happened with fallout 76 prior to this years e3, from Todd asking for essays on why cheating is bad to the canvas bags fiasco.
Sorry, meant to post these last couple but I walked away to try to grab super slow mo footage of a humming bird /blog
well shit i guess i got ripped off big time when i bought 3000 washers for 100$
>he says posting idolshit
user, I....
>that fucking Asian dude with the top hat
I wanna be friends with that guy.
Internet Historian is British.
I hope you enjoy talking about JPGs.
Idolshit doesn't even come remotely close to this.
Sci-fi pigs are the kind of people who pays millions for a two days stay on a space station.
>Pre-ordering P2W ships
tfw your IQ is so high you already realize that these kind of games are doomed before development even starts. This is financial darwinism
$0 because I'm not a retard who falls for scams.
Artificial value. It makes semenbrains feel like they thing they wasted $600 on is more valuable than it really is because it's no. 00034 of [literally infinity because it's a fucking digital product]
>How much have you put in
Large amounts, frequently
>there is a title that doesn't give you anything
>you still need to spend 5000 more to get it
how do they do it?
>Nearly 10 years
>Still isn't even 1/4 of the way to being released
Sunk cost.
>that guy who stole 250,000 dollars from his son
>absolutely zero regrets
Star Citizen is a disease at this point.
You know how they sell drinks at the movies? $1.25 for a small, $3.75 for a medium, and $4.50 for a large? That's what they are doing here.
>"Well if I buy the $10k title, the $15k title doesn't do anything, so I should go ahead and get the $25k title."
>all these fags going on about not falling for scam shitzen
>When most of them fell for CDPR's bullshit for Trannypunks
If you fell for either you are fucking retarded.
Bill Gates doesn't make enough to justify buying SC "DLC"
Gonna call bullshit on this one.
Neither will you because it's never coming out lmao
Yes, but we'd be laughing at them anyway.
Capitalism usually involves actual products so no
How many years before the backers finally realized that they have wasted money on empty promises?
Chris Roberts might become the biggest con artist of the decade.
No money but feels and hope. So it is still hurting to see how it turned out
>invested
nigger it's a video game not an investment
If it ever manages to come out, it will not be as good as you expected it to be. Think the fags on this board who seemed to be under the impression CDPR, the fucking witcher devs were going to make essentially a P&P rpg in vidya form.
>wasted money on empty promises?
these people are all rich as hell, they don't care. There will be meltdowns but not enough.
what game was this guy from again?
>not install asymetric amounts
3x4GB after one stick died. Nothing bad will happen. The only thing one should look out for is frequency and timings but even then most modern mainboards can handle different specs.
Ah yes, CDPR, the notorious scam artists who have made 3 great games and 2 amazing DLCs.
Go dilate, retard.
>You don't lose it completely in currency, just a slice of it gets skimmed from you for fucking up.
It's more than a slice, the insurance payout for a titan is nothing.
The sad part is that you're right. They will probably don't give a shit and fall for another scam right away.
A friend of mine spent 100 bucks on Scam Citizen and won't stop gobbling down the cock of Chris Roberts. It's a pity.
it's a rich game made for rich gamers, poorfags need not apply
>Everyone who shits on this game is likely a poorfag
You buy apple products, don't you?
Those backers are so brainwashed that they will find a way to rationalize it.
I remember reading in the forums years ago some backers saying that "the game at this moment is already worth the money I spent".
Its like a cult and Chris Roberts is a good who can do no wrong.
>donate money to kickstarter
>spend $1k to get into the cool kids club
>pay $275 to join irl event
>where they show you can spend another $675 on an "exclusive" ship
This is a pedo ring. You can tell me all the bullshit you want, I aint gonna believe it. They have underaged oriental girls running around naked with 8inch pink dildos up their asses, hopped up in whatever oriental bullfrog oil drug in the fucking event and youre not gonna convince me otherwise
By the time this game comes out, the graphics will be outdated lmao
can someone tell me the name of the obscure character Timor is playing?
Depends how many hours of gameplay. In a F2P game a few premium vehicles or weapons can greatly reduce the grind of the game and get you to the fun part faster.
He's an evil man, but at the same point can you blame him? He's like the Twitch camwhore. if a fool is willing to be parted with his money then why not take it from him?
We'd all do the same thing if we could. It's depressing reading the forums and the plebbit for the game, they're more delusional than the orbitters.
take your meds
>an entire Subaru BRZ
As opposed to what, two-thirds of a Subaru?
Australian you inbred
AUSTRALIAN
cunt
>3 great games
doubt.jpg
You know, I never thought about this before, but it actually does make perfect sense. Someone give this man a cookie and call the FBI. Not necessarily in that order.
>anticipating a AAA standard 60$ release that is coming out next year is identical to throwing thousands of dollars on a game that will never be finished
based retard
and it's free
I am here to reminding you of this.
youtube.com
I don't understand what gives you the impulse to spend that much money in a game.
Reminder that this was announced a few months after the original release of Skyrim.
by having more money than you know what to do with, like those furfags who spend over $5000 for a single picture
Anthem
I have a question: will this play on my 6000 dollar apple cheesegrater?
That's how insurance on capitals is supposed to work in SC as well. We're talking about CIG so everything is tentative but they've said it'll be as much as several months to get a replacement for big capital ships, though unlike EvE it'll be an NPC shipyard building it and not a player. What they've said is that they want to simulate availability of individual ships and it'll vary from being able to replace a small common ship instantly at any backwater station to having to travel to a bigger core system to get a fast replacement for a medium specialized one to waiting ages for a large one to be built.
>invested
Its not an investment if you never get money back
holy shit
A literal retard.
both the witcher 3 and cyberpunk 2077 will be out before Star Citizen
think about that for a moment
Except there's ground fps missions and 5 cities.
Still not that much though and you have to be in it to fuck with other players like I like to do
Phos is cute!
Negative senpai, but in all honesty, this game seems to attract two types of players: Those that are well off and young adults that have decent paying jobs for the first time. This is probably because if you want a decent ship you gotta shelve out some money.
If the game drops, that's when we'll see the more "financially conservative" players join the fray.
I like star citizen, but i would sacrifice the game for the real deal.
What are you all poor? I spend $1,500/month on a Star Citizen as a hobby and it doesn't even affect my bottom line. Get a REAL job so you can enjoy masterpieces like Star Citizen. Best investment I ever made.
>by having more money than you
how do you know that? And why would I give a fuck how much money you flush into this game? I asked about the impulse. Is it the big virtual ships? What is it?
It has to be self centered autism combined with severe narcissism and egoism that you someday maybe will matter in game by getting attention from people who spend less money or something? Or are you in some circle jerking secret club who shit on each other by calling each other out how much they spend and you don't want to feel like a misfit?
That's some severe mental illness complex right there.
>know what to do with
Yeah right. Except you would have stopped once you realised that 7 years later there is no release and nobody to admire your amount of wasted time and money that you put into this pile of kickstarted heap of shit. This game as is right now is literally irrelevant and to think that it will someday will leap into the top one category of gaming is beyond delusional.
That guy roberts really found a gold mine and I am not surprised he keeps squeezing till last drop.
LEGIT QUESTION
can you actually use that thing in-game now?
I can't believe someone managed to transform the cult formula in such a fashion, it's honestly kind of remarkable when you think about it.
I genuinely have a hard time believing anyone actually spent money on this.
Even Hunt Down The Freeman only got $12 on Indiegogo, how the fuck do people not only fall for this scam, but are in such denial?
As opposed to two-thirds of a game.
Fucking bannerlord will be out before star citizen.
>spending $100 million per year
>get further away from release every year
Yeah this is a Ponzi scheme. Enjoy your shovelware dollar bin game.
the director hired his wife and brother and gave them all high paying positions despite not being cut for it.
They've already cashed in for 7 years now, 3 more and they should be set. This is the biggest scam out of all the kickstarters, afterwards when the funding is out they'll just file for bankruptcy and they'll only lose the game assets and company but still keep the high paycheck they set for themselves. Fucking based desu, to think this all started with a 2012 kickstarter where the guy didnt even start working on the game, he literally said the kickstarter video they used wasnt gameplay it was all cgi lmao.
It was before all of the Kickstarter flops
He said i meant release dates and not that trannypunk was another pile of shit generic AAA game that lied in its marketing.
and they will be at a huge disadvantage
I don't understand why you faggots are laughing. These people are being scammed, they're tricked, duped, and played, they are the unfortunate victims of this scheme. It doesn't take much to fall for shit like this, in fact some of you are a mere one IQ point between laughing at it and falling for it, in fact some of you are currently falling for some other obvious scam, like for example gatcha or lootboxes or patreon, even though you manage to avoid this one. These kinds of scams need full attention of the lawmakers so that not one naive person more be caught in their vile nets.
because I have nothing left
Not really. Either they let the game be pay to win and nobody will care about it, or make it normal and hugely devalue the thousands some people spent now. Either way they are fucked.
Because after a while, you can only laugh at cult members and the soon to be ritual suicide that they'll be committing.
>the government needs to stop people from making stupid decisions!
>they are our betters and know what's best for us, so we should trust them to rule our lives!
These retards deserve to fall for this shit. They deserve to be taken advantage of.
I spent a total of ___$40 and I enjoy watching the development progress and look forward to playing a fun space sim when it's done.
Busy making a video on Metal Arms
I don't get it.
Paying for some extra in a game with a 10 buck pre order deal, I can get.
Paying for some 20 bucks shit in an F2P game, I can get.
But shelling out 675 additional bucks for an "exclusive deal" you got by shelling out a grand on a video game, I just don't.
And the fact that this vaporware keep siphoning so much fucking money after so long, I definitely don't get either.
Nobody really understand cults. Also CIG is currently testing to see how many they can get to drink the kool aid
>475475030
Star citizen is a conceptual game and can basically be anything you can imagine so it's worth it to give Chris Roberts all your money.
From a purely objective standpoint, the original Kickstarter pitch actually looked really solid. It's not like Chris Roberts is some nobody who's entire pitch was little more than a hastily scribbled design document and a dream. The man has made games in this genre before. Beloved games too, he made the Wing Commander series and Freelancer. He claimed he had been waiting for technology to advance before getting back into the game, and he had a working demo to show off. This is what a lot of successful pitches looked like, and this was also before the Mighty Number 9 and Space Base disasters. So it makes sense that people fell for it back then.
It was only later that people found out that the original "demo" was just some stuff the people at Crytek threw together as a proof of concept on behalf of Roberts. And then people remembered that Freelancer was also delivered massively late and hugely over budget. It only got released because Microsoft came in and told Roberts to scale it the fuck down. Now, there's no Microsoft, just Roberts, his vision, and seemingly limitless money.
>Now that Mandalore is resurrected he really ought to make another SC video
Someone asked him and he said he wouldn't because his overall thoughts haven't changed, its just Robert's and CIG's actions have only gotten more ridiculous.
>ywn eat a strawberry out of her butthole
hmm u may be actually right
i'll dig
This piece of shit of a game is never fucking ever coming out, is it?
>and seemingly limitless money
Only that money is definitely going to run out. To Roberts it won't mean anything but it will be awful for the backers.
I hope you have this attitude merely because you've never actually thought about this. Being dumb is something you're born with, much like being a slow runner, or in fact even more so, seeing as you can at least train to run faster withing a certain limit. You can't train to stop being dumb. Last traces of doubt on this matter are being slowly eradicated from the thinking man's mind, while the entire western society is vehemently, and quite fruitlessly, in denial. Surely you're not gonna say it's the slow runner's fault he couldn't run away from a pack of niggers that mauled him. In the same way it's not the dumb person fault he couldn't walk away from a pack of kikes that scammed him. Just like there's a law that protects you from a more nimble runner with bad intentions, there has to be a law that protect you from a more nimble mind with bad intentions. If you deny one, you have to deny the other to stay logically consistent. And you can only keep denying both until you're mugged for the first time.
Really what else is there to say? The company hasn't changed their business strategy. The content creep is continuing. The cult-like fanbase is still cult-like. The game is still missing every deadline. The only difference now is that, instead of being 2 years late, the game is 6 years late.
Formerly valid.
I think he’s dragging it out in the hope that a global societal collapse will happen and he’ll be able to escape to the moon on a shuttle funded by the real spaceships early access tickets he’ll start selling.
47 minutes
They're still released games regardless of your opinion on them. More so than what SC is supposed to be.
>For thsoe wondering what Chairman's club Exclusive means, it means that you've already spent $1000 on the game
>Your reward is the opportunity to spend another $675
He forgot something important. This is a "Mine laying ship". THIS GAMEPLAY DOES NOT EXIST. AND WHO THE FUCK KNOWS WHEN IT WILL EXIST
here is your
you know you could just google things instead of asking dumb questions right?
>in fact some of you are currently falling for some other obvious scam, like for example gatcha or lootboxes or patreon
The whole fucking gaming industry is riddled with this shit, even when the blatant stuff like lootboxes aren't involved. How different from Star Citizen is it when EA or Ubi shows off a game at E3 etc., markets the fuck out of it, sells expensive-ass special editions with gated content and all that, and then releases the game broken and half-finished with major graphical downgrades, and then either takes two years patching and DLC jewing the game into a semi-decent state or just completely abandons it like EA seems to have done with Anthem. At least CIG admits their shit isn't done.
>Jesus.. I would love to be part of that dev team
why would you? You do realise you'll be like any AAA dev working on any game. The only difference your're working on a game that will fail.
Not only that but allegedly morale at CIG is pretty dog shit, what with Chris being a fucking nazi when it comes to assets being made. One guy who left the company complained that shit had to be redone multiple times because Chris couldn't make up his mind and had to micro manage everything.
>Someone completely voluntarily giving money to Chris Roberts for a game that will never come out is exactly the same as Chris Roberts overpowering someone and taking money out of their wallet.
You go to a kickstarter scammer. Muggers come to you.
Elite Dangerous is selling for $7 in my country right now.
it's pretty good if you play it as space ETS2
What, you can buy it already? I thought it wasnt even done enough to be considered a game yet.
I've bought into the meme since the first year, always has it's ups and downs and drama and good patches. I've enjoyed the ride for this long and I have already gotten my money's worth of entertainment out of the game. No interest in spending any more and can't really understand myself why so many people shell out so much when they have no friends to even crew any of the ships that may get finished to their conceptualized feature set someday. They bank on the AI being good enough to replace players but that's laughable at best. Not to mention the 'in game running costs' of the ships increase with the size (seriously, some of the torpedoes cost more in-game than some of the smaller single-seat ships do) and these doctors and engineers that shell out the whale bux will never play enough or play well enough to justify or afford the running costs before they get blown up by 2 guys in 30 dollar ships. just my 2 cents, but I understand both sides of the arguments for sure. my biggest regret (reflected in the screenshot) is that I bought 3 friends the starter pack back in the day and I don't talk to them anymore even.
where have you been
so, British
...
About 270,000 words making fun of it in every thread I see.
Yeah man mammonism and greed is based
Even more of a waste lmao
Fuck you and stop comparing loading screen simulator to Euro Truck Sim. Tired of you dumb cunts.
>he's never played modded minecraft
>I have already gotten my money's worth
Tell me time traveler, since you seem to claim Star Citizen is released, how is it?
i bought X4 instead
you can play it right now user
What can I play?
you can play "modules" which are fragments of the game. I don't fucking know, I haven't played them, I'm not him
Yes, but what is there in game to do? I'll tell you, bare bones trading, janky dog fighting which is broken, and exploring empty planets quite literally with nothing in them. All this at 24 FPS.
Nothing because I'm not mentally retarded.
>One guy who left the company complained that shit had to be redone multiple times because Chris couldn't make up his mind and had to micro manage everything.
fuck that would suck. no wonder he left.
what are they going to make
gat v was budgetted like 100 mill or something
what's the money being spent on how big ist he world going to be?
first off I never claimed it's been released. But yes, I was looking for a space game to play and it pushed my buttons the right way. throughout the years I've put easily 5 or 6 hundred hours into the different modules, I've enjoyed it. Plus it's been nice to find some friends along the way that share the interest. I'm not telling anyone to buy into the whole thing, just sharing my experience with it. I never said it was perfect or anywhere near
Sunk Cost Galaxy is exactly this.
That was years ago, there is a fully integrated game now but as it's pretty barebones. (And fwiw modules still exist but only as secondary arena type modes.)
fuck off Josh
I'm trying to make you understand the flaws in your desperate attempt to justify the money you spent on the game. No, you haven't gotten your money's worth because you haven't been given what has been promised to you. You've played a broken buggy pre alpha for 500 hours. And you come across as mentally preparing yourself for Star Citizen's collapse
>Well, at least I had a good time with the rusty skateboard and go kart I got, even though I ordered a car!
The main audience I think tend to be engineering/space nerds that have well off jobs, maybe a wife and a kid but most of them are probably single so they end up with a lot of disposable income. They grew up loving space themed stuff and when they found the closest they could get to a space sim, they went all in. So they're not upset that they blew a lot of money, because this could be the FUTURE.
28 euros I believe.
I have the Aurora LN. It was one of the two very basic ships at the time I purchased but mine is in "Light Fighter" configuration. The other was a fighter plane looking ship, this one can haul goods.
robertsspaceindustries.com
I have played the game for about 20 hours. It runs fine on my computer though the last time I played was maybe 3 years ago. I have only played the dogfights and the race. I made the decision to wait for public launch or at least a release candidate before getting invested in the game. I purchased the game before the single player campaign and MMO split so I have both. To be clear, the ~30 euros got me the game and the ship in the game. You could not "just buy the game" back then, you had to choose a ship.
I did spend 50-100 (I forget) euros on a HOTAS flight stick though just to play the alpha dogfight simulator but I have since used it with other games.
I have every faith in that they try to make the best game they can with the money. I don't know how it will turn out but I don't think people yelling scam know what they're talking about. The game is very much playable now. The technical side is almost complete and they have a shit ton of assets with the ship shop. Now they just need to create missions and the interactive universe stuff which surely is a lot of work, but I was convinced the moment I could load the game and fly around in space it wasn't just vaporware.
I think people see the cinematic trailers. Don't know nothing else and go "well that's never coming out" before realizing how much of it is already playable.
This video is like 6 months old but it's one I remember watching. I try to steer clear of spoilers and such since I will eventually play the game, why see a crude version of it? youtube.com
The part where you spend money
>game
you're not playing this game. its playing you (if you bought into it)
If you want to see Star Citizen's audience
You can fly in space. Shoot guns. Walk around. Complete simple side missions like shooting AI bots and grabbing data cores from space stations.
There is no reason to play the game now other than to estimate the performance and get used to the flight controls. What is out is essentially a demo. The persistent universe stuff isn't up. You can fly ships though, rent the more expensive ones with in-game credit you get from the dogfight simulator etc. They handle very differently from a small fighter to a larger cargo ship.
>estimate the performance
Can't even do that when core technology and all of the game is still missing.
>flight controls
Which will probably change again.
you know me pretty well user, are you my clone?
Should have bought a hobby so you spend less time here.
I'm just intelligent, nihilistic, and with a wicked sense of humor.
I can appreciate that. either way I'll be shitposting with all you guys whether the game comes out or not
>bought a few ships when "life time insurance" was offered on all of them and the hype was alive
>flipped them on reddit for an obscene profit in 2014
>five years later still see retards buying ships
how the hell are they selling any ships now?
the initial craze was due to all the sold ships having free replacement for life
also kind of weird to look at Star Citizen now when years ago the big ship was the Starfarer
They're literally taking ships that have already been paid for (Squadron 42 ships) and reselling them to the cult. Also you get a discount if you use fresh new money.
That's kinda your fault for buying and playing an obviously broken and janky game to begin with.
Of course. I do not play the game myself.
But you can start up the game, load a map and run around, pick a ship and fly in it. A version like this is very typical in game development (wihtout polish to the menus etc. because you'd just spawn the ships). Releasing it for public is mostly a PR move to show that it truly isn't vaporwave. The playable game only exists to proof to people the game runs.
For what it is it's a very decent space flight sim. Flying around and shooting feels good. It clearly is not finished and has gone through multiple iterations since the last time I booted it up. I'm looking forward to playing persistent online content with this engine. I will upgrade my GPU before that, my CPU (i7-4790k) I have faith in based on performance with the alphas.
>is mostly a PR move to show that it truly isn't vaporware
Except the pre alpha further solidifies that the game is potentially vaporware. Bounty hunting doesn't exist, exploring doesn't exist, there's a single system with a couple barren moons and planets, quests are broken, you constantly fall through your ship into a void or your ship explodes. And on top of this, all gameplay related development on the road map keeps being pushed further and further away than Epic's Shopping cart.
when will this madness end and bite them in the ass?
My PC is from JANUARY OF 2015 and it has 16gb ram and runs this game just fine (~45-50fps on high).
That's 4 years and 8 months old PC and I went for the "smart investment" parts, not the "hottest on the market" parts. It would cost about 100 euros to upgrade the RAM anyway if I didn't have it.
Are you malaysian children with HP laptops or something? This is a PC game not even out yet and you complain it can't run on 10+ old pieces of crap? The last machine with 8 gigs of ram I've had was a macbook pro from 2007. TWO THOUSAND AND SEVEN. And you cry a video game for WINDOWS PC in ~2020 requires 16gb?
And mentioning SSD in the requirements as if anyone who played this game did not install all games to SSD anyway. Again, do you have HP laptops from 2005 or something?
I buy games like a turbojew. Base game only, no dlc or mtx, 5+ years after release and only during a sale.
What's the bare minimum you have to spend to """play""" this """game""" on release?
The literal bare minimum is 60 dollars, but you'd need to spend 75 ish for the Avenger Titan, because the starter ships literally cannot do missions.
>Literally a bunch of old fucks with too much spare money to spend
well at least im glad this shit won't work for any other game ever again
user i have a brand new zen 2 rig with 32 gigs of ram and a nvme ssd
it's still retarded
On the contrary, CIG's success may be picked up by companies like EA. Can you imagine how fun that will be, EA developing a star wars MMO and charging thousands of dollars for an in game Star Destroyer?
Star citzen will probably go free to play at some point after full release.
i guess if those faggots backers can spend 10k on the game they can spend another 1-2k on making a proper PC to play it, this game is obviously not catter to the masses but rather to that very specific group of people
Oh sure. It absolutely can fail, I'm not saying they're golden gods with a perfect video game in their back pockets. But think of the criticisms you laid out VS. the criticism they would face if it was just some guy with a website full of pictures of spaceships. The alpha proves there really IS a team of developers working somewhere. It doesn't prove they can't fail, but it proves they're trying.
About 200,000
mandalore is my favourite youtuber
DAAAMN
I'm not saying they've optimized the game because they clearly have not. I'm saying complaining about 16gb and a SSD for a video game requirement in 2020+ is ridiculous.
Also the game does not load for 15 minutes.
The brother, Erin Roberts, has actually been making games for big a while now, although he only directed a few. He was able to release Star Lancer in a very good state, while Chris ran free lancer into the ground and microsoft had to salvage it. Star Citizen would have ended like Freelancer too if not for the advent of crowd funding.
Star lancer is legit a good game. One of the last mainstream space combat sim and a much better realized space themed game than free lancer.
I spent $825 so far, AMA
>The alpha proves there really IS a team of developers working somewhere
I would agree with you if there was any progress on the game being made. Here's a list of every gameplay activity mentioned by Chris that they have no idea how they're going to implement
>mine-laying (this new ship being sold for 700 dollars), medical, farming, colonization, news reporting, exploration, science, piracy, docking, bounty hunting, research, information warfare, refining, repairing, refuelling, orgs,
do you prefer blowjobs to be sloppy or clean?
So, there's feature creep? This was always known. Have you played the Alphas? Have you played two different builds of this game? The game is very much progressing forward.
You're ignoring the obvious. The amount of work already put into the game proves a medium-sized team has been working on it for a good couple of years. What you're describing is the sprinkling on top they could possibly patch in as the persistent universe updates. World of Warcraft just got an update, how old is that game? Sure Star Citizen might be 15 years old before the news reporting update comes out but so what?
The cynic can always argue that just because a team has worked on something in the past doesn't prove they will work on it in the future or that the finished product will be any good. Obviously. Life is full of unknowns. But if you go ahead and try to build anything like the crude bare bones version of the star citizen alpha you'll notice it would take you years of development time and tens of millions of dollars to do. Which means that at least some time in the past there was a competent team of devs working on this project. That's a lot more convincing than a cinematic trailer on youtube.
I just want a new space combat game that goes for that Freelancer style of gameplay. They started saying how this is a space game, but then we need FPS because there aren't enough FPS around I suppose, then we need land vehicles then we need whatever else. By trying to have so much stuff in the game is only going to make it harder to make the space combat good.
>So there's feature creep?
Feature creep isn't what you describe a game being in development for 8 years but having less than 10% of its gameplay made.
>>Have you played the alphas
Yes, it has gotten significantly worse than what it used to be. The flight model is dog shit compared to 2.x era.
>World of Warcraft just got an update
I'm pretty sure WoW did not advertise any of what is in the game now when it first released
Am I replying to bait?
>You'll notice it would take you years of development
CIG has 400 + people, possibly even 500 now. And they cannot do what smaller teams have done under the same circumstances as them. I don't want to defend No Man's Sky, but even they fucking delivered a game, even though they lied through their teeth like Chris did too.
2012 they announced begging for money, but according to roberts they already had two years of work done at that point, so 2010
I only bought the minimal entry starter ship to have a look around what's there and honestly it's in a lot better shape than I expected for all the hate it gets. If the final release is even 1/4 of the potential the game clearly has it will be amazing.
You're arguing strawmen. I said the playable "demo" is up on the site for PR purposes to convince people the game isn't vaporware. I didn't say the game will be good.
Could anyone who's spent any money on Star Citizen please remove yourselves from the gene pool?
someone should really do a second life x minecraft where you sell real estate, mineral rights, etc in-game to early adopters for cash
not because it would be good, but because i think it would work
>I just want a new space combat game that goes for that Freelancer style of gameplay.
I just want the fucking squad 42 part to just be a modern Wing Commander/Star Lancer. I personally don't care about the privateer style open world (space?) gameplay, but if it was only going to be the star citizen portion, I would have no issues with it.
But no, we gotta have fucking boarding parties and shit. I want to be the ace pilot to escort the borading party, not be assault pilots like in CoD IW or Macross F or whatever.
Roberts hasn't been involved in game development since 2003 and he hasn't directed since 1996
he is CLEARLY out of his depth
this is why publishers are NEEDED sometimes
Mandalore is not white and he should stop pandering to white folks.
Deal, but first you have to list every non grocery purchase you've made in the past 12 months. If there's anything equally as wasteful then you have to end yourself instead. If your list shows you were too poor for luxury purchases then again, you have to kill youself instead.
>having less than 10% of its gameplay made.
>game engine
>movement on foot
>movement in zero gravity
>vehicles in a vehicle simulator
>flight models for said vehicles
>AI for enemy on foot
>AI for enemy in vehicles
>chat and UI
>script and voice acting for single player
>less than 10% of its gameplay
writing mission dialogue is not the same as "gameplay"
that's a harsh punishment for falling for a scam
This is why some people wonder if, at least in part, its a money laundering front
instead of having him list all of his electric bills for 12 months, why don't you just toss yourself out of a building
oh yeah and I forgot
>weapons on ships
>missiles
>laser guns
>projectile weapons
>weapons on foot
>gun models
>modular damage
all done
unfortunately not gameplay
gameplay = vendor NPC's and quests and xp and skills and text boxes that's gameplay
>Writing mission dialogue
I didn't realize that bounty hunting, medical, refueling, etc is mission dialogue.
>AI
Completely broken and has to be rewritten.
>Chat and UI
Ah I didn't realize this is gameplay
Nice avatar, it fits you perfectly by the way.
To bad it's slower than a minivan LOL
This game is a fucking scam with a fuck up cult surrounding it that silences criticism.
Besides everyone who's played games knows that density of activities, side quests and points of interest are what makes open world games so great ,not size.
Hence why gta 5 and Red Dead 2 are repetitive pieces of shit. The only exception I can think of is the Witcher 3.
This game is going to awful once it releases anyway.
Have you tried it on an HHD?
HDD, I'm retarded lol
t. Chris Roberts
Nothing and I won’t until it’s released and happens to have generally positive reviews. I’ve been feeling like playing a space game recently and just bought Elite Dangerous today since its on sale.
I really want to scratch the nostalgia itch I have for some Xwing vs Tie Fighter
This is true. That guy objectively did not get his moneys worth.
All the broken promises, etc. Roberts said first release would be in 2014
>I didn't realize that bounty hunting, medical, refueling, etc is mission dialogue.
it is. You shoot bad guys, and it's a bounty hunting, medical, refueling etc. mission based on the text prompt that pops up on the screen. Sure you might have to press E to refuel and X to activate medical beam or whatever but it's all text.
Fundamentals come first, and the money grubbing nature of the video game further emphasized the importance to get the engine running smooth. You could hunt and kill AI ships 4 years ago in this game and it has only improved with further development. That stuff is near-finished and now they're focusing on the "front-end" features like missions and xp and persistent universe.
They're taking their time for sure, but this order is very standard to video game development. youtube.com
I have not played a PC game on a HDD since that macbook pro from 2007 I mentioned earlier so no.
>Well, at least I had a good time with the rusty skateboard and go kart I got, even though I ordered a car!
t. i've decided last nights sex was now rape
>go out on a date with a hot guy
>he's nice, smart, rich and attractive
>go to his house
>a fat, balding, seemingly faceless man stands naked next to the bed
No refunds.
yeah that's bob i pay him to watch
Get some help
Buy the ticket, take the ride
>this order is very standard to video game development
Not him but I work in the industry and its definitely not how things go, especially in successful projects. Nintendo does things nearly the opposite - laying out the prototype and getting the basic concept functioning before diving headlong into full production. They completely shit the bed by focusing primarily on the hyperrealistic graphics first when none of the game’s systems had been implemented in even rudimentary form.
Post yfw when you only spent $35 6 years ago
You sure gottem, user
>They're literally taking ships that have already been paid for (Squadron 42 ships) and reselling them to the cult.
how is this legal
>game revolves around space ships
>you have to have a space ship to do anything
>guy blows up your space ship
>now you cant do anything
How is this any different?
No user there’s tiny cosmetic changes so they count as different!
>You can fly ships. And do some trading, and shoot people.
I'd rather just wait for CCP to try and reboot Dust 514/Project NOVA and properly integrate it with EVE, since that at least has better chances of happening in the next ten years.
