So, about to start this, what should I know befoe I get in, Yea Forumsros?
So, about to start this, what should I know befoe I get in, Yea Forumsros?
Goddamn, I had an aneurism, I meant before.
make sure to get the bug patch mod. I also used the plus patch to restore content but whether you want to use that first time is up to you.
remember to turn combat speed to max and get 10 agility to make combat fun
The other mod is called The Restoration Project.
other than that, user told you everything ya need
/thread
Have fun bro!
Don't put any points into big guns
dude that is one of the best games ever made. Have fun. I'd advise to check out good starting builds online before starting.
put all points in barter and doctor
Run to the south and grab the Enclave power armor
Thanks anons, downloaded the patches and made some coffee. This is going to be a comfy afternoon.
In order to do what that guy says you'll need high outdoor mans skill to avoid the roving gang of super mutants with mini guns that'll mow you down instantly. Not to mention you're breaking into a military base so you'll have to sneak to get the suit. I think you can just walk out of the base when you're wearing it as they'll think you're one of them
Don't try anything cheesy at first, just play through blind. Look at the rules for the perks, and you can put together your own build. Just don't skimp on agility and know small guns is always useful.
Which one messes with encounter rates?
The unofficial patch is now included with the restoration mod so you dont have to download both.
There's a pistol in the first town you visit, but if you fuck around too long the game eats it.
be patient because the game has some serious pacing issues
It is TB combat. You may want to bail now.
enjoy the ride because the end zone/game sucks dick
I thought it was great apart from the bugs in san francisco and the electric floor puzzle on the rig
Make sure you take 9 agility
Don't rest in Klamath if you want a 9mm pistol which gets covered with a puddle of blood if you do
Random encounters are bullshit, save before you leave a town for the world map
Alright, besides bloody mess, which traits should I take?
Gifted. Always Gifted.
Don't be a min-max build homosexual, Fallout 2 is beatable with literally random stats. I even completed the game with 1 Agility and low combat skills.
>taking bloody meme and getting bored of the constant overkill animations instead of earning them
at least kama sutra master has an effect in game beyond visuals
Another thing to consider: if you want friends, every two points in Charisma allows you to have another traveling companion.
It's not essential by any means--it's much easier to fly solo without having to worry about your back-up getting gibbed--but it's worth mentioning now so you aren't confused later.
It's not viable if you have to abuse savescumming.
Are there any keyboard shortchuts I should know, anons?
1-9 alphanumeric lets you do a certain skill. The numbers correspond from top to bottom.
Holding Shift highlights items found on the ground.
>Horrigan breaks my left arm
>kill him by shooting him in the eyes with the alien pistol
>barely make it
>brother plays it
>sentry gun deals a 400ish critical hit
>Horrigan destroys it
>second sentry gun deals another critical hit and almost kills him
>shoot him once
>dies
We both did 33% crit chance stacking but I always had bad luck
What happens if you use your mutated extra toe on Horrigan?
>turrets crit horrigan for 400+ damage twice
This is how Fallout 2 speedrun world record was achieved.
>always get to San Francisco
>game corrupts
>happens even with the patch
Horrigan takes 1 point of damage and it makes you feel like a fool.
this game isnt good play underrail instead
suck shit
So, I snoozed some powder and my perception went down, is this permanent?
Ha, no, you're alright mate. Drugs have temporary side-effects, they'll pass after a little while.
Dont try jet, take some psycho or buffout instead
Solid advice, Psycho and Buffout is always the way to go. Jet is a false prophet.
10 Agility and at least 7 Perception. Luck is fine with 4. Gifted. Propably Fast Shooter too.
Village is dying. Signs are everywhere.
not OP, but what about agility and charisma? I want to be a porn star.
Alright, finished the umga-bumga section, It was pretty nice that I could talk the guy out of fighting me.
>Fast Shooter
Do not ever pick this meme trait. I've played Fallout 1-2 and various mods long enough to know that lack of aimed shots to the eyes or head severely fucks you up especially in mid game with something like sniper rifle with insane range and bonus % to hit.
Good. Now go straight south until you get to Navarro.
For that you need at least 9 Charisma or you need to be a champion boxer, then you need at least 8 Agility. You also need to be either experienced (have the Kama Sutra perk) or take the Sex Appeal trait at the start of the game.
If you don't pass all the requirements, you can still make some money, but you don't get to be a pornstar.
I'm proud of you, rookie. You wouldn't believe how many people wash out from the tutorial. The world's open to you, you have 13 years ingame to accomplish everything, so you're free to explore what you want, when you want.
Do this if you want to be invincible, otherwise whatever you do next is up to you.
In Restoration Project (or maybe even some patches) you need to first head over to San Fran and take the quest from Brotherhood about fining dem vertibirds plans to "unlock" the location of Navarro.
Otherwise it won't be on the map no matter what.
I got stuck for a month or so and just said fuck it and went to Navarro for the you-know-what
Does the restoration project stop that? Stopping those thieving kids in The Den is a nice touch.
I looked it up because I wasn't sure if I remembered everything correctly.
You don't need 9 Charisma if you win the boxing tournament OR you become a Made Man for any of the crime families.
Everything else is accurate.
You need at least 8 Agility AND Endurance.
Just do this APA is this there in the locker
It is choice. I never used aimed shots so i Fast Shooter work better for me. Even in Fallout Tactics i never bother with aimed shoots.
But Frank is big guy. That is only place where i would use aimed shoots if i could.
Charisma is good for trading and talking. I would say 6 is enough. Can't tell you nothing about porn star career.
Nice, thanks user.
It will corrupt every time if you save during the martial arts challenge btw
>I never used aimed shots
You miss so much. Yeah it's pretty useless in early game since your combat stats are shit and you barely hit regular shot consistently.
But in the mid-late game with combat skills above 100 critting for 3.5x armor ignoring damage or instakilling is glorious.
You can always pick Mutate! in late game and switch 1 trait to Fast Shot if you go for that Sniper+high Luck combo. Still "random" crits are less powerful than eye crits even tho they cost less AP.
DO Fallout 1 and 2 require some unofficial patch or something, or can I jump in the GoG release without issues?
I did with no issues
Yeah. Propably right. Maybe i will try it one day. Fallout 2 is realy long game. At least it was when i played it as kid. It took me almoust year to finish. I seen how my friend played and tried to take down supermutant boss in Fallout 1. Shooting him in eye. So i decided it was not worth trouble and i just blast 4 shoots in one turn instead.
Thanks OP, time to replay the game for the 100th time.
are unnarmed builds fun?
>Not tagging Unarmed
Should I play fallout 1 or get into 2?
play fallout 1, it's very good.
Fallout 1 takes itself more seriously, so I recommend that over 2.
Fallout 1 is a good game worth playing, but it's so barebones in content that it feels like the demo for Fallout 2.
Pretty fun and surprisingly viable.
Not OP.
I downloaded this game yesterday, thanks for the info.
Play 1, 2 is junk that's only revered by boomers blinded by nostalgia.
Start with 1, it's quite short.
What order I need to install?
What's the best way of removing the time limit in 2?
Its YEARS user, trust me you will not EVER in any playthrough reach the time limit in the game
Attack once and back off in the temple. The critters you'll face have action points, too. Maybe also raise your melee or unarmed points, whatever you feel like using; they don't have to be tagged, methinks. It's all I could remember from my play-through.
user already got past the Temple.
I did. Years ago when I was playing for 100% content and farming dem special encounters on the map.
Well shit...
Yeah, I just upgraded my spear and killed some plants.
This is untrue if you manage to kill the robe wearing guy outside you can walk in and explore the base freely also you can get to navarro with the min outdoorsman skill you just have to save scum
The restored content patch locks the door to vic's house.
It's really super fucking annoying to open and i don't remember how i did it. Ask vee for help.
The patch is not compatible with old saves too.
+1 for high agility.
And jet addiction is very bad m'kay
It's a great game. Enjoy your run.
I wish I could relive it for the first time.
>bait
There isnt one
>spend hours really getting into the game and having lots of fun
>almost done with the game, fucking around in San Fransisco
>Ready to go to the oil rig
>game bugs out and I cant get on the boat
>spend 4 hours running around the world and looking up solutions online
>never play the game again
fallout 1 is my preferred game to this day because of this.
There's a city where children try to pickpocket you. Enter combat near them, walk up to them, and punch them, so that they run away from you instead of trying to pickpocket you. You just have to do this once for each child.
I had to restart the game, because I didn't notice I was being pickpocketed.
Seriously? I never noticed that, I wonder how much shit I lost because of it
I did that once and then Sulik decided to start magdumping his 10mm SMG onto the little beggar kids. From that point on I decided to install the reclamation project so I could just do the orphanage quest instead of having to genocide the homeless kids.
>have ancient 2008 laptop
>resolution too low
>try to fix it
>nothing works
ill keep replaying f2 forever i guess
It'd get really out of hand sometimes, especially as my party got bigger.
>find out I got pickpocketed
>left all my shit in the car
>round arround town with active explosives, dynamite, C4 you name it
>one minute later every kid gibblet is rainning all over town
Next level strat you fucking cunts
Park your car in Reno, they give you a free upgrade
Focus points into speech if you want to get the most out of the game and not have it be a 24/7 combat slog. Other than that, I'd suggest small guns, barter, science and repair. Lastly, take the game slow. Explore, do the sidequests, talk to people. It's a great world.
Advanced tip
Level 12 perk Tag! that lets you choose 4th tagged skill can give you an insane amount of skillpoints (up to 1000+) so you are pretty much done with skills in early\mid game.
When you pick Tag! it DOUBLES UP the amount of points you wasted on that skill previously, working retroactively, so you don't feel like you wasted skillpoints leveling a skill without this sweet x2 bonus.
Now here comes the abuse. After picking that 4th skill to tag do not close skill tab. You can now press "-" on that skill removing skillpoints from x2 boost. The more boosted from x2 bonus skillpoints you got the more you get to remove obviously.
Example:
>With AGI10 Sneak by default is 15% (Hard diff and Gifted)
>You level it up to 100% wasting 85 skillpoints
>Pick Tag! on level 12 so Sneak now is 185% and tagged with x2 bonus
>Press "-" lowering it from 185% to original 100%
>Since past 100% 1% costs 2 points, past 125% 1% costs 3 points, past 150% 4, past 175% 5 and past 200% 6 you get a shitton of points
>275 free skill points in that example
Ofc the more you wasted the more you get to remove so if you initially leveled Sneak past 100% you get even more points.
The best skills to use for that abuse are the ones that low initially so it's cheaper to level them up and that benefit from being really high. So either secondary combat ones you don't tag at the beginning like Energy Weapons or Sneak because it's great for every char.
Works in F1-F2 or F1-F2 based mods.
Don't mind me. Already beat the game.
>cheating
You should know that weilding a powersledgewhile wearing a full suit of power armor and mashing a child into pure gore is possible, and highly encouraged.
>he didn't do big guns/energy weapons fused with luck
I just started playing Fallout 2 myself. How did I fare? My Unarmed and Melee Weapons skill are below 40, so I miss too often, but I got enough AP to outrun and attack enemies at the same turn.
Is this max luck?
Solid
ST could be higher on 5
EN is an odd number 7 could be 6 because hp bonus per level up is rounded down so it's useless
CH is low for my taste but perfectly fine you don't plan on picking a big party of companions
AG could be 10 instead of IN
INT aint op like New Vegas. You should have 5 on it and put the points somewhere else.
Power armor will fix you STR problems
jesus christ this is broken
Does 2 have implants like in 1 and NV? If so, it looks like I don't have to change my SPECIAL. Also, my tagged skills are Small Guns, Lockpick, and Speech. My Traits are Good Natured and Gifted.
Yes but you get to install them pretty late in the game You'll be rocking the best power armor and almost best weapons by this point
Here is the last stat screenshot I took before I killed Horrigan with my thunderfist.
Drop the game after New Reno. The quality drop fast after this.
