Can any Harvest Moon fans tell me what they would consider the most "definitive" game in the series?

Back to Nature, but FoMT is good too.

Also Hero of Leaf Valley, but I fee like its just a portable version of Save the Homeland.

FoMT for sure. And it's getting a HD remake which can hopefully cement it's place as best game.

Is it really? When did they announce it? Who is making it?

HMDS

SNES, BTN, FoMT, and 64 are the core.
AWL and STH are interesting takes.
The GB games are neat curios.
Everything else that isn't a discrete spinoff (Rune Factory, Etc) is redundant.

It was announced fairly recently. The main team is making it. Kind of surprised people since Doraemon is coming out soon but that's being made by Namco.

So when is the new story seasons game coming out?

Doramon: October
FoMT: October in Japan. Q2 2020 in the west probably.

I love MM but had the displeasure of buying the Wii version.

I've been playing them since the SNES game. Every single entry.

The holy trinity is HM 64 / HM BTN / HM FoMT
My personal opinion on which is the best is - BTN > 64 > FoMT

64 is the hardest to actually play, emulation is not perfect and a actual game is expensive. BTN and FoMT are both really easy to play on many devices, portable is preferable. So really just try and play whatever game is easiest for you to play on.

Small description on the 3 games.
64 set the groundwork, it's very basic but I love that about it.
BTN basically takes 64 and improves/adds in every single way (although more isn't always better, I do feel mostly in this case it is)
FoMT basically is BTN with reduced visuals / sound, and many other adjustments. I think BTN is better overall, but this is still a great version to play and is emulated on much more devices.

Other good entries to play are
AWL - Extremely long (maybe too much) but is the most realistic.
MM - Best farm gameplay, but has a chibi art style and the social aspect is very weak
AP - Final "real" Harvest Moon and is absolutely packed with every single feature the game could hope to have. Would be the best entry in the series, but two things hold it back. Can't really be emulated to play portable yet, and the biggest sin is the load times are fucking unreal.

Being made by current SoS team. I'm a bit iffy on it, but will probably play it.

What's a HM game that has a finitive amount of time until completion like AWL does? Really enjoyed AWL, shame about the fps issues, but the emulated gamecube version of Another Wonderful life works well.

Thankfully you can play the GC version on Wii or emulate it

im no connoisseur but BTN seems like the best. thats what pic related is based on

Harvest Moon Save the Homeland is only 1 year. The game is extremely charming, and I love most aspects of it. The fault is of course the time limit, and no marriage. The game has lots of little events and things to do in just the 1 year, and multiple endings to get.

The PSP version basically adds both unlimited time, and marriage, but it's just such a different feeling game to the original. Still good though.

Technically I think 64 / BTN/ FoMT do in some capacity that if you do basically nothing for the 3 years, the game ends.

Thank you so much, user! Looked it up and even if there's no marriage, I think I'll be satisfied by romance routes. I'll definitely give it a try.

HMDS

I always thought HMDS was shit. What do people like about it?

That user is just a contrarian. First person I see that likes any of the ds shit titles.

FoMT sometimes feels... off. I really like the farming and the NPCs in general, but everytime I replay it it feels like the devs forgot to add details to make it truly good. Also, the translations sometimes are bad

i played this game when i was 12 or something and every fucking day i went to the mines to find a jewel to give it to this ungrateful bitch

everything was going fine until we married and she moved into my house.
the thing is i was still even after marryying her giving her presents whenever i could spare the time.
but after somewhile after my kid was born she started to loose her hearts, so in a panick i went to the mines to only get the best of emeralds for her but to no avail.
in time she didnt even know me and started to talk about what her father thinks and shit.
it was at that time i realised what i did and it changed how i view women for a long time.

Tldr user lost his trust and good heart by a shitty relationship in a farming simulator

I usually see people mention HMDS in these threads but I get the feeling it was the game that came bundled with their first DS.

You got yourself a gold-digging whore. Marry more trad girls like Ellen or even Gwen

Back to Nature for content and simplicity.

Save the Homeland for multiple endings and actual plot.

Hero of Leaf Valley was a respectable remake though it lost some of its charm somehow.

Did Back to Nature ever get something akin to Hero of Leaf Valley

>Did Back to Nature ever get something akin to Hero of Leaf Valley
user, why do you think people love FoMT so much?

I liked the way you could set up your farm buildings

>AWL
Jesus really? That's one of the high points? The only ones I've played are AWL and FoMT and it's a gigantic step down from FoMT. There's basically nothing to do by the end of year two.

People seem to love AWL usually because it was the first they played or they love the Comfy genre of games. But as a game AWL is very lacking.

Harvest moon GB for pure nostalgic comfiness

HM is consistently better.
Meanwhile RF has 2 out of 6 games that could be called good.

good fucking lord the nostalgia when looking at this

I had forgotten how much I played this game, and how mysterious it was to me as a kid.
Thanks man.

Let's take it up to 11

AWL is something that could have been amazing had they added more events or people, but it does nail the atmosphere and watching everyone grow was nice. But yes its far too long for what little is there is to do.

I don't care about combat and dungeon crawling shit in these types of games. I enjoy HM/SoS for the comfy farming and waifus

I just started this game and I duno what to do. I can hold soo few items I duno where to start. Tips for newb?

>Clear farm
>Plant shit
>Chuck whatever you can in shipping bin
>Buy animals
>Treat the women

Seems like the games gona be a drag until I can afford seeds and stuff for animals.

They start off slow but the beginning is probably the most involved and fun.
Once you've essentially got a production line that makes bags of money the game kind of gets boring.

once you get some income you can buy bigger rucksacks to hold more stuff, though it will always be just short of enough
