Why even complain about lootboxes? don't like/want them? don't buy them, simple, some players like myself like when games i like add cool events and i like to support devs i like as well
Why even complain about lootboxes? don't like/want them? don't buy them, simple...
They're jealous of your gold skins and want games to go back to giving them for free.
Manchildren upset that free games need a way to make money.
Just let me buy the item then.
I can support the dev and get something that I want and is worth my money.
We have cases of devs artifically padding out progression with grind in an attempt to make you buy lootboxes.
pay to win in multiplayer games is not cool, but other than that there's nothing wrong with lootboxes/ microtransactions/ dlc.
i like cool events too. i'd happily pass for season passes where i could earn a unique skin and some weapons and stuff within the season.
but i fucking hate paying for individual items. and when certain things are locked to mtx only...fuck that. case in point destiny has transmog only for mtx skins, and has nothing you can earn in game, despite paying for seasons and expansions. that's way too much.
on the topic of events and funding though, it's worth noting monster hunter world has been going for a good long time now, adding events regularly where you can earn armor and weapons and skins, and they have no passes, and only now are they releasing their first expansion. they have mtx but they cost like $3 and are just skins for an npc helper or an emote.
What if I want what's inside and that I already paid for when buying the game?
Personally i think game devs are way too generous. They should release games as bare polygon models, and if you want textures and lighting you can buy them separately. Devs need money to make content, and these things are only cosmetic so it doesn't even matter.
>he thinks it's okay paying full price for a game that excludes content behind a gambling mechanic
You little zoomers shits that have normalized this make me sick.
People bitched about Apex Legends too. That game is free.
Because publishers and greedy devs aren't trustworthy. Give them an inch and they take a mile every time. People were fine with pay cosmetics that were off to the side as a bonus, but then everything becomes a slot machine front and center in your face needling you to pay cash for slot tokens.
Also, you're a degenerate addict cuck. Seek help.
>People were fine with pay cosmetics that were off to the side as a bonus
if this were true it would be fine, but what happens then is that they make all the cosmetics you earn absolutely shit, or they just lock them out completely so everything has to be bought.
i'd happily pay a subscription for a game that has regular updates if it meant i could earn everything, but even sub games have mtx now like wow and ffix
From what I gathered the real pushback came when they decided how far they could go with that stupid axe
>Waaaah, the pixels in my free game aren't cheap enough
cringe
there's literally nothing wrong with lootboxes
but it highlights compulsive behavior in retards
notice everytime retards are put in front of their inadequacies, a shitstorm ensues
>tfw I get my gambling itch scratched with games that don't treat me like cattle
Play something with random drops or randomized mechanics that don't charge you for a reward, you simpleton.
Their existence results in games being designed around them sometimes, and that typically results in situations where content is held off from the player based on random chance.
I think as long as the content isn't meaningful or significant, they can be fine. For example, I think Overwatch does lootboxes right. All lootbox content is purely cosmetic and all gameplay content is completely free to everyone and added via patches. No paid DLC, regular updates since launch.
Once you start locking actual meaningful content, or you start including things like experience boosters that the game was absolutely initially designed with you using in mind (see the newer Star Wars Battlefront 2), the game becomes content light or a massive grind for those not willing to fork out.

>and is worth my money
but that's the lie at the center of the controversy. everything is worth more than you can afford, and publishers no longer reap any value from subsidizing costs. the industry grew up and doesn't need children anymore.
Lootboxes change the game design from a fundamental ground level. It's an entirely different perspective for design. Instead of a nice, well constrained and balanced experience you will have a wicked Skinners box full of traps for your mind to fall into.
>People who defend lootboxes
Sad.
